He didn’t answer immediately.

That was what scared me the most.

Not his words.

Not his presence.

But the silence.

The way he just stood there, looking at me like I had said something impossible.

Like I had asked for something he couldn’t give.

“Act like it never happened?” he repeated finally, his voice low.

I swallowed hard but nodded.

“Yes.”

It was the only solution.

The only way this could end without destroying everything.

A small, humorless smirk touched his lips.

“You think it’s that simple?”

My chest tightened.

“It has to be,” I replied quickly. “There’s no other way.”

“There’s always another way.”

His tone was calm.

Too calm.

Like he had already thought about it.

Like he had already decided.

I shook my head. “No. Not this time.”

I took a step back, putting more space between us.

Between me and the problem.

Between me and him.

“You’re engaged to my sister, you would be married to her in less than a month” I continued, my voice steadier now, even though my heart was anything but steady. “Whatever happened that night shouldn’t have happened. It can’t happen again.”

His eyes didn’t leave mine.

“And if I don’t agree?”

The question caught me off guard.

My breath hitched.

“What?”

“If I don’t agree to pretend,” he repeated.

Something cold settled in my chest.

“You don’t get a choice,” I said, even though my voice wasn’t as strong as I wanted it to be.

“Don’t I?”

He stepped closer.

Slow.

Deliberate.

Dangerous.

I didn’t move this time.

I couldn’t.

Not when my body refused to cooperate.

Not when my mind was screaming two different things at once.

Run.

Stay.

“You keep saying it was a mistake,” he said quietly.

“It was,” I replied immediately.

His gaze darkened.

“Then why can’t you look at me and mean it?”

My breath caught.

Because I did mean it.

I had to mean it.

There was no other option.

I couldn’t do any other thing than mean it.

“I don’t want this,” I said, forcing the words out.

“Say that again.” He interrupted

“I don’t want this,” I repeated, louder this time.

But even I could hear it.

The hesitation.

The crack.

The doubt.

His hand lifted slightly, like he was about to touch me.

Then stopped.

Hovering.

Like he was holding himself back.

“Your body says something else,” he murmured.

My heart skipped.

“Don’t” I shouted

“You came with me,” he continued. “You didn’t fight me.”

“I wasn’t in control,” I snapped, anger finally breaking through the fear.

That made him pause.

Really pause.

For the first time since this started.

Something shifted in his expression.

Not enough to fully understand.

But enough to notice.

“You keep saying that,” he said slowly.

“Because it’s true,” I replied, my voice shaking again. “Something was wrong that night. I don’t remember things properly. I don’t feel like myself when I think about it.”

Silence.

Thick.

Heavy.

Different from before.

His eyes searched mine.

Like he was trying to figure out if I was lying.

Or if I was finally telling the truth.

“I don’t care what you think happened,” I added quickly, before he could say anything else. “All I know is that I have to fix this.”

“And staying away from me fixes it?” he asked.

“Yes.” I answered almost immediately

The answer came instantly.

Because it had to.

Another step.

Closer.

Too close.

“You can try,” he said quietly.

My pulse raced.

“What does that mean?”

“It means…” he paused slightly, his gaze dropping briefly to my lips before returning to my eyes.

“This doesn’t just disappear because you want it to.”

My heart pounded harder.

Faster.

Louder.

“You’re making this harder than it needs to be,” I whispered.

“No,” he replied.

“I’m making it honest.”

I shook my head, stepping back again, putting distance where I could.

“Then be honest from a distance.”

His jaw tightened slightly.

But this time…

He didn’t follow.

For a moment, we just stood there.

Staring at each other.

Caught in something neither of us fully understood.

“Stay away from me,” I repeated softly

Not angry this time.

Not desperate.

Just… tired.

This time, he didn’t argue.

He didn’t move closer.

He didn’t say anything that would pull me back in.

But the look in his eyes..

That quiet, unspoken certainty..

Told me everything I needed to know.

I could walk away.

I could pretend.

I could try to fix what was already broken.

But no matter how far I went…

No matter how hard I tried…

This was deeper than it felt.

And deep down…

I think we both knew it.

Before he could do anything again. I turned, and walked back into the event. The tension there somehow felt better, than the tension around him. The plan was to ignore him. Act like nothing happened. Behave like it wasn’t something to think much about. But plans like this only works out when the other party is willingly to agree and comply And he clearly didn’t.I felt it before I saw him. That familiar, unsettling awareness.Like someone was watching me.Like I was being pulled into something I didn’t understand.I tried to ignore it.Tried to focus on anything else. But my body betrayed me first. My heart started racing. My thoughts slipping. And slowly… I looked up.He was already looking at me.Across the room.Unmoving.Unapologetic.I looked away immediately.No.I wasn’t doing this again.I turned, grabbing a glass from the nearest table just to have something to do, something to hold onto.Something normal. But even then…I could still feel it.His gaze.Heavy.Persist

The moment the whispers faded, the air became too heavy to breathe, I turned and walked away.Fast.Too fast.I didn’t care who was watching anymore.I just needed to get out.I didn’t stop until I found an empty hallway.Quiet. Cold. Safe. Or at least… it should have been. The moment I was alone, every emotion I had bottled up broke instantly. A shaky breath left my lips. Then another. And before I could stop it.Tears.Hot. Uncontrollable. Endless.I covered my mouth, trying to muffle the sound, but it didn’t help.Nothing did.Because it wasn’t just what those women said.It was the truth behind it. I had tried so hard to avoid, but it is true. Or at least… what it looked like.“I didn’t mean for any of this to happen…”My voice cracked as the words slipped out.“I didn’t even know, I can’t remem….”“You’re still crying.”I froze. My heart dropped.Slowly… I lowered my head.Of course!Of course he followed me.Can’t be let me be. As if everything that had already happened wasn’t enough I had to gave him again at the celebratory buffet and I couldn’t decline the invite because it was my sister…. The next event was even bigger than the engagement party. A celebratory buffet my sister insisted on hosting, something about “bringing both families together properly.” It was elegant, controlled, perfect. Just like her. And somehow… I was there again. Dressed up, smiling when necessary, pretending everything was fine. Pretending I wasn’t falling apart inside, but I kept my distance this time. Far from him Far from her. Far from anything that could drag me back into that nightmare, not like I could avoid it anyways. Or at least… I tried to. “Isn’t that her?” The voice was low, but not low enough. I froze. Was it me? “Yeah… that’s her.” Another voice. Closer this time. I didn’t turn around immediately. I didn’t need to. Something about the way they said it, whispering, yet

  • My Sister’s Fiancé    Chapter 3

“I shouldn’t have come back” The thought kept repeating in my head as I walked out of the hall, my steps quick, uneven, desperate. My chest tightened as my heart pounded aggressively, echoing loudly enough to realize the reality I couldn’t escape. But even as I pushed through the doors and into the cool night air, one thing followed me. Him. His voice. His eyes. His words. “You disappeared this morning.” My chest tightened once again. He remembered. There was no doubt about it now. Every look. Every word. Every pause. He knew. And worse… He wanted me to know that he knew. I exhaled shakily, wrapping my arms around myself as if that could somehow steady the storm building inside me. Think. What do I do now? Pretend? Deny everything? Act like it never happened? A bitter laugh almost escaped my lips. As if that was even possible. I squeezed my eyes shut for a second, but all I saw were flashes of that night. A door closing. A voice too close. Hands I couldn’

  • My Sister’s Fiancé    Chapter 2

I stood frozen, my eyes locked on them like if I blinked, the image would disappear, it didn’t… “This can’t be real, it can’t be happening” that kept ringing in my head. She was still smiling, still holding on to his arm. And he…. He was looking right at me. My heart slammed violently against my chest. No. No, no, no. He remembers. The thought hit me so hard I could feel my feet trembling. I staggered back slightly, my fingers tightening around my bag as panic crawled up my throat. He remembers! There was no way he didn’t. That look in his eyes… it wasn’t confusion. It wasn’t unfamiliar. It was recognition. Like he knew exactly who I was. Like he had known from the first moment he saw me. My stomach twisted. I turned quickly, breaking eye contact, my breathing uneven as I tried to steady myself. Think! Just think. Maybe I was wrong. Maybe I was overthinking. Maybe he didn’t remember anything from last night. Maybe…. “Where did yo
