I stood frozen, my eyes locked on them like if I blinked, the image would disappear, it didn’t…

“This can’t be real, it can’t be happening” that kept ringing in my head.

She was still smiling, still holding on to his arm.

And he…. He was looking right at me.

My heart slammed violently against my chest.

No.

No, no, no.

He remembers.

The thought hit me so hard I could feel my feet trembling.

I staggered back slightly, my fingers tightening around my bag as panic crawled up my throat.

He remembers!

There was no way he didn’t.

That look in his eyes… it wasn’t confusion.

It wasn’t unfamiliar.

It was recognition.

Like he knew exactly who I was.

Like he had known from the first moment he saw me.

My stomach twisted.

I turned quickly, breaking eye contact, my breathing uneven as I tried to steady myself.

Think!

Just think.

Maybe I was wrong.

Maybe I was overthinking.

Maybe he didn’t remember anything from last night.

Maybe….

“Where did you disappear to?”

Her soft calm yet concerned voice cut through my thoughts.

I flinched.

Turning slowly, I forced a smile that didn’t reach my eyes.

“I I I just… needed some air,” I stammered.

She studied me carefully, her gaze lingering on my face longer than usual.

“You don’t look okay.”

“I’m fine.” The lie came out too fast.

Too easy.

She stepped closer, her hand brushing lightly against my arm.

“You sure?” she asked softly. “You left without telling me.”

“I didn’t want to disturb you,” I replied quickly, avoiding her eyes.

That was safe.

That was normal.

That was believable.

Right?

She didn’t respond immediately.

For a moment, it felt like she was trying to read something beneath my words.

Then she smiled.

And just like that, everything felt worse.

“Come,” she said gently, taking my hand. “There’s someone I want you to properly meet.”

My heart dropped.

No.

Anything but that.

I tried to pull back, but her grip tightened just enough to stop me.

“You’ve been avoiding him all night,” she teased lightly.

Avoiding him?

If only she knew.

My feet felt heavy as she led me forward, each step bringing me closer to the one person I never wanted to stand in front of again.

My pulse roared in my ears.

Maybe he’ll pretend.

Maybe he’ll act like nothing happened.

Please… just act like nothing happened.

We stopped.

I didn’t look up.

I couldn’t.

“this is my sister,” she said warmly. “I told you about her.”

Silence, for a second too long.

“I know.”

The voice was calm, deep but firm.

Familiar in a way that made my chest tighten painfully.

My breath caught.

Slowly… I lifted my head.

And there he was.

No shadows this time.

No blurred edges.

No confusion.

Just him.

Watching me.

His expression unreadable.

But his eyes…

His eyes said everything.

Recognition.

Awareness.

And something darker I couldn’t name.

“You disappeared this morning,” he added quietly.

My entire body went cold.

Morning?

He remembered.

Every Single Thing.

“I… I don’t know what you mean,” I managed to say, even though my voice barely held.

His gaze didn’t leave mine.

Not even for a second.

“Don’t you?”

The way he said it—

Low, certain.

Almost like a challenge.

I felt exposed.

Like he could see every thought running through my head.

Like he knew I was lying.

Like he was waiting to see how far I would go to deny it.

My sister laughed softly, completely unaware of the tension suffocating the space between us.

“You two are already getting along,” she said, clearly pleased. “That’s good.”

Getting along?

If only she knew.

I forced a small smile, my hands clenched at my sides to stop them from shaking.

“I think I should go, I need to freshen up” I said suddenly.

Too fast.

Too desperate.

Both of them noticed.

My sister frowned. “Already?”

“I’m just… tired.”

That part, at least, was true.

Tired of pretending.

Tired of standing here like nothing had happened.

Tired of feeling like I was about to fall apart at any second.

“Stay a little longer,” she insisted gently.

Before I could respond…..

“You can leave if you want.”

His voice again.

Calm, controlled.

But there was something else beneath it.

Something that made my skin prickle.

My sister glanced at him, surprised.

He didn’t look at her once.

His eyes were fixed still on me.

Locked. Unmoving.

“Just don’t think leaving changes anything.”

Everything around me paused.

My heart dropped straight to my stomach.

Because in that moment…

I understood something I wasn’t ready to face.

This wasn’t over.

Not even close.

And somehow…

He wasn’t going to let me forget it, not anytime soon.

Before he could do anything again. I turned, and walked back into the event. The tension there somehow felt better, than the tension around him. The plan was to ignore him. Act like nothing happened. Behave like it wasn’t something to think much about. But plans like this only works out when the other party is willingly to agree and comply And he clearly didn’t.I felt it before I saw him. That familiar, unsettling awareness.Like someone was watching me.Like I was being pulled into something I didn’t understand.I tried to ignore it.Tried to focus on anything else. But my body betrayed me first. My heart started racing. My thoughts slipping. And slowly… I looked up.He was already looking at me.Across the room.Unmoving.Unapologetic.I looked away immediately.No.I wasn’t doing this again.I turned, grabbing a glass from the nearest table just to have something to do, something to hold onto.Something normal. But even then…I could still feel it.His gaze.Heavy.Persist

He didn’t answer immediately. That was what scared me the most. Not his words. Not his presence. But the silence. The way he just stood there, looking at me like I had said something impossible. Like I had asked for something he couldn’t give. “Act like it never happened?” he repeated finally, his voice low. I swallowed hard but nodded. “Yes.” It was the only solution. The only way this could end without destroying everything. A small, humorless smirk touched his lips. “You think it’s that simple?” My chest tightened. “It has to be,” I replied quickly. “There’s no other way.” “There’s always another way.” His tone was calm. Too calm. Like he had already thought about it. Like he had already decided. I shook my head. “No. Not this time.” I took a step back, putting more space between us. Between me and the problem. Between me and him. “You’re engaged to my sister, you would be married to her in less than a month” I continued, my voice steadier now, even though

The moment the whispers faded, the air became too heavy to breathe, I turned and walked away.Fast.Too fast.I didn’t care who was watching anymore.I just needed to get out.I didn’t stop until I found an empty hallway.Quiet. Cold. Safe. Or at least… it should have been. The moment I was alone, every emotion I had bottled up broke instantly. A shaky breath left my lips. Then another. And before I could stop it.Tears.Hot. Uncontrollable. Endless.I covered my mouth, trying to muffle the sound, but it didn’t help.Nothing did.Because it wasn’t just what those women said.It was the truth behind it. I had tried so hard to avoid, but it is true. Or at least… what it looked like.“I didn’t mean for any of this to happen…”My voice cracked as the words slipped out.“I didn’t even know, I can’t remem….”“You’re still crying.”I froze. My heart dropped.Slowly… I lowered my head.Of course!Of course he followed me.Can’t be let me be. As if everything that had already happened wasn’t enough I had to gave him again at the celebratory buffet and I couldn’t decline the invite because it was my sister…. The next event was even bigger than the engagement party. A celebratory buffet my sister insisted on hosting, something about “bringing both families together properly.” It was elegant, controlled, perfect. Just like her. And somehow… I was there again. Dressed up, smiling when necessary, pretending everything was fine. Pretending I wasn’t falling apart inside, but I kept my distance this time. Far from him Far from her. Far from anything that could drag me back into that nightmare, not like I could avoid it anyways. Or at least… I tried to. “Isn’t that her?” The voice was low, but not low enough. I froze. Was it me? “Yeah… that’s her.” Another voice. Closer this time. I didn’t turn around immediately. I didn’t need to. Something about the way they said it, whispering, yet

  • My Sister’s Fiancé    Chapter 3

“I shouldn’t have come back” The thought kept repeating in my head as I walked out of the hall, my steps quick, uneven, desperate. My chest tightened as my heart pounded aggressively, echoing loudly enough to realize the reality I couldn’t escape. But even as I pushed through the doors and into the cool night air, one thing followed me. Him. His voice. His eyes. His words. “You disappeared this morning.” My chest tightened once again. He remembered. There was no doubt about it now. Every look. Every word. Every pause. He knew. And worse… He wanted me to know that he knew. I exhaled shakily, wrapping my arms around myself as if that could somehow steady the storm building inside me. Think. What do I do now? Pretend? Deny everything? Act like it never happened? A bitter laugh almost escaped my lips. As if that was even possible. I squeezed my eyes shut for a second, but all I saw were flashes of that night. A door closing. A voice too close. Hands I couldn’
