Then suddenly I heard the lock of the door lock click shittt we were definitely done for…..

Everything stopped right there in the living room.

My body went completely still on top of him, my heart slamming so hard against my chest it felt like it was about to give us away.

He just froze there too. It was like we both snapped back to reality at the same time.

The front door was opening and someone was about to step inside.

“Mac…” I whispered, my voice shaky now, barely holding together.

His hands dropped instantly, like he had just realized what we were doing, and where we were doing it.

Slow footsteps followed and it was getting closer.

“Oh my God…” I breathed, quickly getting off him, my hands fumbling as I tried to fix myself, my hair, my clothes, anything to make it look normal. He stood up fast, running a hand through his hair, trying to pull himself together, but I could see how tense he was.

The footsteps got closer, each step louder than the last.

“Bea?”

My mom’s voice.

My stomach dropped instantly.

“She’s here,” I mouthed, panic flashing across my face.

“I know,” he replied quietly, his voice tight.

I grabbed my bag from the couch and rushed forward just as she stepped into the living room.

“Mom!” I said quickly, way too quickly. "Hey."

She paused.

Her eyes landed on me first.

Then slowly… shifted to him.

Standing just a few steps behind me.

She just stood there staring at him, my soul was literally about to leave my body I just hoped she wasn't suspecting anything.

“You’re home,” she said.

It wasn’t a question.

“Yeah,” Mac replied, forcing a smile. “We just got back.”

She didn’t respond immediately.

Her eyes moved between us again.

“You two look…” she started, with a calm voice.

My heart skipped immediately. We were definitely done for.

“…a little flushed.” She continued.

My throat went dry.

“Hot day,” I said immediately.

She hummed softly, like she wasn’t fully convinced.

Then she walked further into the living room, dropping her bag on the table.

“I forgot something earlier,” she casually said.

"Oh? What's that?"

I said in an attempt to ease the tension.

She reached for her bag and brought out a gift box. I couldn't hold my smile.

"Happy 18th B, I know I'm tough too tough sometimes," We chuckled. "But, I'll always love you and you'll always be my beautiful treasure. I hope you know that." She said shoving my stray hair behind my ear. I was trying my best to hold in my tears, I don't remember the last time my mom said something that sweet to me.

"I love you okay B?"

"I love you too, mom."

I chuckled a bit and hugged her tightly.

Mac was still standing behind me just watching before he spoke up.

"C'mon B, open it."

I didn't look at him cause I would have folded on the spot and my mom was there, so I just picked the gift box and opened it. It was a jewelry set and it was so beautiful, the necklace had a picture of

the both of us. I couldn't hide how happy I was.

"Momm." I said softly almost breaking down, she just smiled and went into the kitchen. I kept looking at the set, the bracelet had "Mommy's Little Girl" engraved in it, I couldn't hold it anymore. I was just sad because we used to be so close until my dad died, She always called me her little girl, but I haven't heard it from her since my dad died. I was still there just staring at the necklace and chain while Mac comforted me, when my mom came in with a birthday cake with candles and a birthday hat singing happy birthday for me.

I chuckled and sang along with her. She put the hat on my head and made me make a wish. I think we all know what I wished for. We cut the cake and each had a slice. It was a really wholesome moment.

"Okay, how about we get some rest, while I make dinner."

Mac said.

“Alright.”

My mom said, without looking at him, I guess she was still upset with him. She hugged me again and gave me a little smile before she walked off towards her room.

The moment she disappeared down the hallway, the air shifted. That was too close.

I turned around slowly to face him and we just stood there staring at each other.

We both knew what just happened, and what almost happened.

“She almost saw us,” I whispered.

He didn’t respond immediately.

His jaw was tight, and his eyes were unreadable.

“That can’t happen again,” he finally said.

I swallowed and took a small step back trying to steady myself and acting like I wasn’t affected.

But I was.

“I should go to my room,” I said quietly.

He nodded but didn’t move.

I turned and walked away, my legs feeling weak and my mind spinning.

And as I reached my door, I paused for just a second. Because deep down… I knew that despite how close we just came to getting caught…despite how wrong it was…I knew one thing.

I wasn’t going to stop.

  • My Stepdad, My Sin   Silence After the Almost

Dinner that night was both awkward and wholesome. I avoided eye contact with Mac throughout the dinner and it seemed like he was doing the same too. I was a bit upset with what he said but I wasn't going to give up just like that. That night I barely slept, not because I couldn’t…but because I didn't want to.Every time I closed my eyes, it replayed. The way his hands felt, the way he looked at me, the way everything almost went too far…And how close we were to getting caught. And I would honestly do anything to do that again.... I mean except the almost being caught by mom part.I turned over in my bed, letting out a quiet sigh and eventually forced myself to sleep. The next morning felt… normal, like yesterday didn’t even happen. I got ready slowly, dragging things out longer than I needed to, because part of me didn’t want to go downstairs. When I finally walked into the kitchen, my mom was already there, scrolling through her phone while sipping coffee.“Morning B,” she said casua

I saw him.He was leaning against it like he had all the time in the world, like he’d been waiting, for me.My steps slowed for just a second.Just to take it in.Then I walked up to him.“You’re early,” I said.He smirked slightly. “Or maybe you’re just eager.”I rolled my eyes. “Don’t start.”“But I’m right,” he added.Annoying.“Get in,” he said, opening the passenger door for me.“Where are we going?” I asked, sliding in.“That’s the surprise part,” he replied, shutting the door.Of course. I was so excited. The drive was… quiet.Every now and then, I’d catch myself glancing at him.And every time I looked at him, my heart would do that stupid thing again. After a while, we stopped.I looked outside. It wasn’t anywhere loud or crowded, It was calm and private.“Come on,” he said, stepping out.I followed him, my curiosity already peaking.“What is this place?” I asked.“You’ll see,” he replied. That was his favorite answer today, apparently. We walked a little further in…And then

11:59 PM.I stared at my phone like my life depended on it.My heart was beating so fast it didn’t even make sense. It was just a birthday… right? This was the first time in a very long time that I was actually excited about my birthday.11:59…11:59…Then, 12:00.I sucked in a sharp breath, sitting up immediately.“I’m eighteen…” I whispered, a slow smile spreading across my face.Finallyyyy.I rolled on my bed like a maniac shrieking.Something about it felt different already, I felt like I was a woman. And without even trying…My mind went straight to him.I knew any second from now he was going to knock on my door. He was always the first to wish me a happy birthday. And just like I predicted, a few seconds later, A soft knock landed on my door.I shrieked again.Another knock.“Bea?” his voice came, low and careful. My heart literally skipped.I jumped off my bed and rushed to the door, trying not to look too eager… and failing.I opened it.And there he was.Leaning slightly aga

The next few days felt… different. Not bad, or awkward, Just… charged.Every little thing between me and him felt louder than before. The way his eyes lingered longer, the way his hand brushed mine when he passed me something. The way my heart refused to act normal around him.It was like something had shifted… and neither of us was saying it out loud.My birthday was tomorrow and I could barely breathe from how excited I was.At school, I wasn’t even pretending to listen anymore, my mind was completely occupied by you know who.“Bea,” Anna snapped her fingers in my face. “Hello?? Earth to birthday girl.”“Huh?” I blinked, snapping out of my thoughts.“You’ve been smiling at nothing for like five minutes. It’s scary.”Maye leaned closer. “It’s giving mystery man on her mind.”I rolled my eyes, trying to play it off. “You guys are so dramatic.”“Mm-hmm,” Anna smirked. “So what’s the plan tomorrow?”I bit my lip. “I don’t fully know yet… but he said he planned something.”Their eyes wid

  • My Stepdad, My Sin   Misunderstandings and Heartbeats

The next morning, the house was quiet, too quiet. My mom had left for work, still fuming, judging by the way she was banging doors like they were the cause of her problems. I just stayed in my room, curled up under the blanket, my mind replaying yesterday, the image of him kissing that woman burned in my memory.I just layed there, hoping he’d knock again. I didn’t want him to give up on me and stay away. I was angry, yes, but that didn’t mean I didn’t still love him. I waited… and waited. But he didn’t come. So he had given up after all. Oh well.My stomach growled, reminding me I needed food and also that I had to get ready for the soul-draining thing called school. I finally forced myself off the bed and headed for my door.A soft knock made me jump.“Bea… can we talk? Please,” his voice was low, almost begging. I couldn’t help the small, satisfied smile tugging at my lips. My heart raced, but I didn’t answer. He knocked again, more firmly. “I need you to hear me out.”I finally op
