Chapter 6

hI was at the nursing home sitting with my Mom who unfortunately wasn’t lucid. A knock on the door woke me from my thoughts and it was the nurse.

“Hi Makayla, our medical director would like to speak with you.”

I looked at my Mom and got up before making my way to the doctor office. I sat down when he invited me in.

“Thank you for joining me. Listen, I don’t want to cause any family drama but payments are four months late.” He said.

“What do you mean? I have been giving my father half each month. He should be making

the payments.”

He took off his glasses and set them on the desk. My father has been coming less and less so I wasn’t sure what was going on.

“How much is owed?” I asked.

He reached for the folder and flipped through before answering.

“$15,638.54.”
