Jacqueline's POV

Who could that be? We… I wasn't expecting anyone. I don't know about Alex.

He went to get the door. Two women walked in. One a little older than me, and the other should be around my age.

The older woman was dressed in a shirt and skirt, while the younger one was dressed in a plain top and jean trousers that hugged her curves tightly. Her hair-do and make-up seemed too flashy. I have a feeling she has an ulterior motive.

"Sign," Alex reminded me. I turned to him.

I took the document from him and I read it thoroughly.

I forced myself to ignore the lines that read 'No staying out late,' and 'You must always obey my rules'.

It was more like house-mating terms, and it was quite favourable. I signed it.

The women watched Alex and I converse.

I cleared my throat. "Who are they?" I asked.

"House workers. They'd help you around the house."

Did he employ people to serve me?

"I do not need them."

"What did the contract say about rules?"

Right! I mustn't disobey him. I gritted my teeth. This would be harder than I thought it would.

“Alright.”

I feigned satisfaction, and I retreated to my room.

I plotted in my head on how to ignore Alex till I get this over with. I do not think I'd be able to bear his attitude for too long.

A ring from my phone made me jolt. I picked it up from the table. It was Jayden calling.

I smiled even though I planned to be upset with him.

“Hi babe,” his smooth voice called from the other end.

“Hi,” I replied dryly.

“I am sorry babe. I was asleep.”

“Hmph.”

I didn't give him a proper response. I needed to show how angry I was.

“I am really sorry babe, please forgive me.”

I can't be upset with him for too long.

“Alright, I forgive you.”

“Thanks. Did you get home safely?”

A bit of silence.

“I did. But I was thrown out,” I sat on my bed, waiting for his response.

Jayden would be so furious, he doesn't like his girlfriend being treated like rags.

“Thrown out? Did that little bitch and her mother throw you out?” anger radiated through his voice.

“Yes they did…”

The next few minutes passed by with Jayden cursing, and saying things he would do after I got my inheritance.

He didn't seem so happy when I told him that I was in Alex's house. He might be jealous… that's normal. I'd do the same if I were in his shoes.

I smiled after ending the call. I was happy I got to talk to my boyfriend.

‘Knock… Knock’

A knock came on my door. I quickly went to get it.

To my surprise, Alexander was standing before me. He was dressed in a white merchandise, and he had packed his hair. The white and silver made his tattoos stand out being a darker color.

Why is he here?

“Get dressed, we are leaving,” he uttered.

“No… I won’t do that Alex. You can't boss me around.”

“I can. Unless you want the FBI raiding the apartment in the next 30mins, and you end up behind their vehicle.”

What? The FBI?

“Alex? Did you commit a crime?”

“I don't answer your questions. I'd give you 10.”

10 minutes? I slammed the door against his face, and I quickly got dressed.

Not something too flashy, just a casual blue T-shirt and a short denim skirt.

Why did I agree to live with Alex? I knew he was trouble.

I rushed down the stairs to meet him. He was outside, kneeling down to his bike, and doing something to the wheels.

I approached him. He got to his feet, and he dusted his hands.

“Good girl,” he said. He got into his bike, and I did too.

I did not really like motorbikes, but when it comes to Alex—my likes and dislikes aren't valid.

He sped off quickly, I had to wrap my hands around him because of his pace.

I was afraid I might fall off.

It was lovely watching the colorful lights and taking in the breeze as the bike rode at full speed.

“Where are we going, Alex?” I shouted through the wind.

“Somewhere safe, little Jackie,” he shouted back.

I held him tightly, I felt him stiffen. I hoped I wasn't touching the wrong nerves.

The ride took 20 minutes, maybe 30, I wasn't really counting.

We stopped at a house, not finely furnished as the glass house, but still quite decent.

An apartment sitting in the middle of nowhere. Why does he have houses that are located in the weirdest places? The place seemed almost deserted. I guess it made a nice hideout.

“How many houses do you have?” I asked as I got off the bike, fixing my skirt.

“Eight or nine,” he replied, turning off his engine. He got off too.

Eight or nine. Right! He is that rich.

When we entered the house, it had an ancient vibe. The paintings, artifacts, and furniture—not modern at all.

“Find yourself a room, we'd return to Madonna tomorrow,” he said as he poured himself something reddish that looked like wine.

“Can I ask a question?”

“No.”

“What crime did you commit?”

“I didn't give you permission to ask.”

“Yeah… But I need to know if I am living with an assasin, a serial killer, armed robbery, or whatever the fuck you are,” I yelled throwing my hands in the air.

“All.”

All? Is he fucking insane?

“I am screwed,” I muttered as I found myself a room like he said I should earlier.

The room was quite calm, everything in it screamed nature, the colors competed to make a unique design. I liked it.

I sat on the bed. A message from Elliana popped in.

‘I heard about what happened, those jerks dared to throw you out. Are you fine Jacqueline?’

It's quite weird that Jayden was the one who broke the news to her. They were friends before he started dating me, but it still doesn't feel right.

‘I am fine,’ I texted back.

I heaved a deep sigh, I wasn't quite sure if I was fine, I might have jumped from one pit to a bigger pit.

I threw my phone on the bed, and laid on my back, my legs jingled at the edge of the bed, as my legs were barely touching the floor.

I survived Aunt Janelle and Kara's tortures for four years, two more years with Alex shouldn't kill, but it feels like it would.

It isn't actually two years, I'd only stay with him on college vacations. I'd do well in the dorms when school resumes.

The TV remote was lying beside me. I didn't plan to die of boredom. I took it, and I turned the TV on.

I didn't find anything interesting on it, so I kept switching the channels.

I left it on the news channel when I got tired. I stood up to get something.

“Breaking News… ROD Industries has been claimed by Mrs Stephens. It's quite a shock that Mr Amin Rodriguez left the company in care of his younger sister, and she is only coming to claim it after four years of his passing.”

My movements froze. I turned to the screen.

“What do you have to say Mrs Janelle Stephens?” The interviewer asked.

Janelle took the microphone, and she smiled at the cameras.

What the fuck?

His eyes moved from me to Jayden slowly, then back to me. His expression didn’t change. Just that flat unreadable look that somehow felt worse than any reaction he could have given.I stepped back from Jayden without thinking about it.“Alex,” I said. I didn’t know why I said his name. I had nothing to follow it with.“I didn’t realise you were expecting company,” he said. His voice was completely even.Jayden straightened beside me. I could feel him doing it — that thing he does when he wants to appear unbothered. He put on an easy smile and extended his hand towards Alex.“Jayden. Jackie’s boyfriend.”Alex looked at the hand for a moment before he shook it.“I know who you are,” Alex said. The smile on Jayden’s face didn’t drop but I could see that he clenched his jaw while smiling. That wasn’t a good sign. It had gotten uncomfortabl

Jacqueline’s POVFor a second neither of us moved. Hannah’s eyes were wide, her face drained of every drop of colour. My phone was still in her hand and her other phone was angled towards it.“What are you doing?” That was the only question I could blurt out. I had so many questions but this would do for now.She opened her mouth. It looked like she was trying to come up with an explanation but nothing came out. I’d had enough of her. I’d suspected her from the first day and she just proved my suspicion right.“Put it down.” My voice came out steadier than I felt. “Put my phone down right now.”She put my phone on the bed slowly. Her hands were shaking. It was dawning on her that she had been caught and there was no way out for her.I picked it up and looked at the screen. My messages were open. Jayden’s chat. She had been taking a picture of my private conversation. The anger hit me instantly. Why would she do this?“Come with me,” I said.“Please—” she started.“Now, Hannah.”I walk

Jacqueline’s POVThe ticks were still blue. I turned my phone face down on my thigh and told myself to stop looking at it. I lasted for a few seconds more before I picked it up again, but still nothing.Jayden had seen my message. That much was clear. He had seen it and had refused to reply. He’s probably where he is, handling his family emergency, and that could be one of his relatives. That’s the only logical explanation. I shouldn’t rush into conclusions until I hear from him.Alex was across the room, one leg crossed over the other, typing on his phone. He hadn’t said anything since I’d gone quiet. He didn’t ask what was wrong. He didn’t look up from his phone, not even once.I appreciated that more than I wanted to admit. He is helping me out even if it’s not really from the goodness of his heart. He is going to have 20% of the shares at the end. Jacqueline’s POVI walked in slowly. The man in the black suit was already moving towards the door that leads out of the house. Seeing him fully made me notice the briefcase he was holding in his hand. I wonder how many more envelopes are in there. He didn’t look at me. He looked at Alex, who gave him a quick nod, and then he left without a word. The door clicked shut behind him.Alex stood there with the brown envelope in his hand, completely unbothered by the fact that I had been standing in that hallway. He set it down on the glass table like it was nothing and slid his hands into his pockets.“Sit down,” he said.“I don’t want to sit down.” I walked further into the living room, stopping a few feet from him.“I want to know what was in that envelope. I saw my name on it. I saw ROD Industries.” I folded my arms across my chest. I’m not going to keep doing as he says when he keeps giving me reasons to question him.He looked at me for a moment.“Sit down, Jackie. You signed the cont

  • My Tattooed Nemesis    Chapter Six

Jacqueline's POVI did not sleep well. The photo was still on my mind when I opened my eyes. That girl walking through the entrance with her face hidden. Alex beside her, tattoos and silver hair clear as day for every blogger and gossip page on the internet to see. That girl was me.I dragged myself out of bed and down the stairs. Alex was already up — dressed, phone in hand, jaw tight. He looked like a man who had been awake for hours managing something he was not going to tell me about.“You’ve seen it,” I said. It was not a question. Alex knows everything that goes on and I was sure he had seen the picture. He did not look up from his phone. “It’s been taken down.”“How?”“It’s handled.”I stared at him. “That’s not the point, Alex. Someone was outside the house. Someone photographed us arriving and nobody noticed. Nobody stopped it.”He put his phone down and looked at me then.Alex scanned my face. He gave me a look that meant he was deciding how much to say.“Pack your things,”
