CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY THREE

“Sarah, stop!”

It’s only when Lucas grabs me that I realise that I was running in the direction of the mansion.

My whole body is cold and something within me is screaming to get to -

“Have you lost your mind?!” Lucas snarls but I hear a real hint of fear under it.

“You just heard-“

“I did!” He snaps. “I did. But we don’t know who that was! The whole place is lit up! And there are guards crawling all over!”

His words finally break through this weird trance in my head and I finally stop struggling in his hold.

What was I planning to do?

Lucas’s voice is wary when I go limp, “Are you-“

He doesn’t get to complete the sentence because I’m suddenly coughing, that familiar shooting pain inside my chest. My knees crumple but Lucas is holding me.

I push him away as I feel the blood rise into my throat.

The ground is stained with dark blood as are my hands.

I sink to the ground, shaking, feeling weak.
