Who hurt you?

The question rang in my head like a siren as the phone slipped out of my fingers.

He had the guts to ask me who hurt me! The very person who was the center of my pain and hurt seven years back was suddenly wanting to know who hurt me.

I chuckled at my predicament. How ironic!

I didn't realise that Tracy had picked my phone until I heard her screaming into it angrily.

"Never call this number again, do you hear me?! If you ever contact this number again, I promise you I'll file a restraining order against you. Who do you think you are to just waltz into Kara's life? I don't care that you're a public figure, I'll drag you down. I promise!"

With that, she tapped the screen so hard I hoped it won't break. She was probably blocking him from ever reaching me again.

My eyes were heavy. I had told myself I was done with crying years back but sometimes, the tears just couldn't be held back.

Tracy wrapped her arms around me as the tears found their way down my cheeks without

  • My Turn, Mr. Bully   Chapter 14

KARA It was getting late. Everyone had left the office, yet I was there, working tirelessly on a design for the system. The project had gone through prior necessary phases and now we were at the designing stage. I had people who could do the design, but I wanted nothing but perfection. That was the reason why I was still at the office by past nine pm at night. A splitting ache ran across my head, making me massage my temple a bit. "Miss Reed, I think you really should retire for the day." It was Lola. She had been waiting with me, refusing to leave until I did. I waved her off with a small smile. "I'll be fine, Lola. You really should leave. I want to make sure I get a rough sketch of the AI system before I leave." She sighed, her shoulders slouching. "What about Nate, miss Reed?" I pressed my lips in a thin line, "He's with Tracy. I already told him I'll be late today." She wanted to argue but I quickly added, "Please leave, Lola. I feel so guilty holding you up here."

  • My Turn, Mr. Bully   Chapter 13

Kara's POVI sat on my bed with Nate cradled in my arms, fast asleep. My mind had left the emotional, sad state it had been. Now, it was in a strategic mode. The memories of my encounter at Nate's school played in my mind over and over again like a broken record.Flashback.I had barely stepped into the school's reception when a woman with bright red hair rushed at me, fuming."You! You're the mother of this little gorilla?!" She barked furiously, grabbing Nate roughly from Tracy.Tracy was quick to shove her slightly as she snatched Nate back from her.Nate stared at me with relief. A part of me expected him to be crying, but my boy was stronger than that.In fact, he looked uninterested in the drama in front of him.Another boy who had a naughty expression seemed to relish the scene. From his glare towards Nate, I could tell he was the son of the furious woman."Oh-uh! I can see where he gets his barbaric character from. Two irresponsible people raising a child."I fought the urge

  • My Turn, Mr. Bully   Chapter 12

Ashton's POVI shrugged on my shirt with a bored expression, staring into space."Ashy-boo, what's wrong?" Sandra's voice sounded like the buzzing of a fly that I just wanted to swat away."Should we go for another round to help you loosen up?"She asked as she tried to unbutton my shirt but I shrugged her hands off."I'm done with you here. You can leave."I had pressing matters to attend to right now. A lot of things were on my mind.I had called Sandra to help ease my mind of the burden. But her service only made my mind flash back to the one person who had not left my mind since I collided with her"Kara Reed really is an agent of bad luck. Ever since you met her, your mind has barely ever been on work anymore. You don't even pay attention to me either ever since—""Can you please let me think? I need my privacy, please!" I snapped at her.Her voice sounded really irritating. Her eyes grew glossy with tears but it was the least of my concerns."This is not fair, Ash—""Don't forge

I reeled backwards in shock."I don't understand. This wasn't stated in the contract."Mr. Jonathan shook his head, his face masking into one of confusion."It was clearly stated, miss Reed. Clause 14b."That clause rang in my head like a bell. This was what Eric meant! He probably had a foresight that that clause was pregnant with possibilities that I might not like. How could I have been so shortsighted?I stared at the clause which now mocked me.I heard a huff from my side, obviously from Sandra but I ignored her.Lola, my assistant, placed a warm hand on my shoulder to calm me down.I appreciated her sensitivity because even though she had no idea what transpired between me and Ashton in the past, she knew I wasn't cool with him at all."Miss Reed, it might not be that bad. It's probably just a phone or two."But Mr. Jonathan continued, almost as if he had heard Lola."The photoshoot sessions will last throughout the time of this project. So once the project begins, we also begin

Ashton Hall! Again! And in my office?! I held my phone to my ears, still staring at him in shock. "Can you direct me to the boardroom, please?" I stared at the smug expression on his face, wanting to punch it off. Beside him, a pretty lady chewing not-so-subtly on a bubblegum and holding some files. "What are you doing here?" I snapped, unable to hold my anger. He shrugged. "I guess I could ask you the same thing." My brows furrowed, my anger heightening. "I happen to own this place, you know." He smiled. "Good. Then maybe you'd be in the best position to tell me why I'm here." As much as I wanted to throw him out, my mind was in a twist. I could hear Tracy calling my attention from my phone. "Kara. Kara... Are you there? Hello." I raised a finger to Ashton who was about to say something before responding, "I will be there in a bit, Tracy. Let me get my things." The call beeped as it came to an end and I turned back to Ashton, mentally closing his chapter for the momen

  • My Turn, Mr. Bully   Chapter 9

My heart skipped a beat. I knew something was up even though I couldn't place my finger on it. The expression on Mr. Eric's face already told me to be careful with the too-good-to-be-true contract. I sat up instantly, giving him my full attention. Eric had been my lawyer since the beginning of my company and had been able to help me sort out all my legal issues without a hitch so I trusted him wholly. He held up the document and read out loud, "Clause 14b: Client reserves the right to include Ms. Reed in promotional activities, including but not limited to press features, media campaigns, and public brand representation, as deemed necessary by Deluxe Conglomerates." I stared at the document, following him as he read and waiting for him to read out the issue but he stopped there. "Uh-uh?" He shot me a quizzical look. "This clause... Are you comfortable with it?" I stared intensely at it for a couple of minutes, proofreading it over and over again. Media campaigns, public br
