Chapter 4

Author: Sandoo
'What am I supposed to do?' I asked my babies inside me.

'Turn his plan against him.' Caleb's voice came clearly. 'He suspects that you have a connection with Steve, doesn't he? Then we'll let him see you actually have one.'

I froze.

'That's too risky!'

'Fortune comes from taking risks,' Caleb replied. 'Daddy is too suspicious. The more innocent you look, the more he'll doubt you. Instead, let him believe the accusation. Make him focus all his attention on Steve. Then we'll have a chance to find his weakness.'

'What might his weakness be?'

'Money,' Lily answered immediately. 'All his money!'

Caleb added calmly, 'Not just money. His empire. He has a secret offshore trust fund. That is the real core of his business empire. What we need is control of that fund.'

I gasped.

What kind of children were these two?

'Mommy, just do as we say,' Caleb comforted me. "First of all, you need a new phone that cannot be tracked.'

'I can't leave.'

'Wait. Sean will let you out soon.'

Sure enough, the next day, Sean sent someone over with an invitation.

It was a charity art exhibition where Kayla was the organizer.

"Mr. Freeman said staying home alone would make you bored, so he wanted you to go out and relax," the person delivering it said respectfully.

I held the gold-embossed invitation card. I understood Sean's intention.

At the art exhibition, Kayla commanded the room like a true showstopper.

When she saw me, she walked over gracefully with a smile.

"Ms. Everton, are you feeling better? Sean was so worried about you. He even gave me quite a lecture last night."

Her sweet tone clearly hinted that Sean had gone to see her afterward.

I lowered my gaze and put on a weak, pitiful expression.

"Ms. Larson, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to."

"It's fine." She waved it off generously. She then linked arms with me. "Let me show you around."

Her nails dug into the soft flesh of my arm.

It hurt.

I endured it and allowed her to lead me through the crowd.

Inside my belly, Caleb began giving instructions rapidly.

'Mommy, look at the man in the gray suit ahead on your left. He works for Steve.

'Later, Kayla will take you to the lounge. Find a chance to put this miniature tracker into that man's pocket.'

'Where did the tracker come from?' I was shocked.

'Oh, don't worry about that. I won't hurt you.'

When we reached the lounge, Kayla used the excuse of going to the restroom and left me alone.

I saw the man in the gray suit walk in as well. He went to the bar to pour himself a drink.

I pretended to feel nauseous. I covered my mouth and ran toward the trash can beside him.

The moment my body brushed past his, the miniature tracker slipped into his suit pocket without making a sound.

After throwing up, I straightened up and gave him an apologetic smile.

He nodded and left with his drink.

Kayla came out of the restroom. She looked at me suspiciously.

"What happened?"

"I'm not feeling well." I pressed a hand to my forehead. My face was pale.

A hint of satisfaction appeared in her eyes.

"Looks like you're really not suited for places like this in your current state."

I ignored her because Caleb was already giving me a live update.

'The tracker has been activated. Steve's location has been confirmed. He's at a cafe near the exhibition. Now, Mommy, what you need to do is get away from Kayla and go there.'

Getting away from Kayla wasn't difficult.

I only needed to use a pregnant woman's most useful trick, pretending to faint.

Amid everyone's shocked cries, I collapsed to the ground.

As the organizer, Kayla had no choice but to stay and handle the situation. She could only watch helplessly as Sean's bodyguards carried me into the car.

"Back to the mansion," I told the driver.

After the car drove for a while, I suddenly said, "Stop."

The driver looked at me through the rearview mirror. He looked troubled. "Ms. Everton, Mr. Freeman instructed–"

I retrieved a debit card from my bag and threw it onto the front seat.

"There's fifty thousand on it. Either you stop now and go buy me the bubble tea I want from the mall ahead, then come pick me up an hour later, or I call Sean right now and tell him you sexually harassed me."

My voice wasn't loud, but my tone was firm.

The driver weighed the consequences. In the end, he chose the first option.

I got out of the car and put on the hat and mask I had prepared earlier. I then quickly disappeared into the crowd.

Following Caleb's directions, I made several turns and entered an old-fashioned cafe.

'Second floor. The innermost private room.'

I walked up the creaking wooden stairs. My heart was pounding.

The door to the private room was slightly open.

After I pushed it open, I saw a man inside. His appearance made me freeze for a moment.

The next day, my legal team appeared in front of Sean. They brought a transfer authorization document personally signed by Steve. It wasn't a simple asset transfer agreement. It was the heart of Sean's entire business empire, the highest-level control transfer document for his offshore trust fund. When Sean saw the familiar emergency authorization code and the legal documents that would instantly dismantle his empire, he finally understood. He picked up his encrypted satellite phone and dialed a number. His voice was cold."Activate the Scorched-Earth plan."The voice on the other end, which belonged to his most loyal subordinate, sounded hesitant. "M-Mr. Freeman, the signal is unstable–"The call was disconnected. He immediately called the trusted aide he had planted inside the board, but a secretary's cold voice came through. "Sorry, he is currently in a meeting with Steve."The call was disconnected yet again. Finally, he called the bank manager in Ravendale, but all he he

People started walking toward the garden.'Mommy, now! Act like you fainted!'I closed my eyes and collapsed to the ground."Anna!" Steve shouted. He ran over and caught me.Sean and his grandpa, who had just arrived, happened to witness this scene. The situation instantly descended into chaos.I was in Steve's arms. Kayla was screaming accusations like a madwoman. Sean's expression turned extremely dark. Meanwhile, his grandpa looked furious."What exactly is going on?" Sean's grandpa slammed his cane against the ground."Grandpa, don't fall for her tricks!" Kayla immediately uttered. "It was Anna! She brought Steve here! They've been working together all along! They want to ruin the Freeman family's reputation!"Sean said nothing. He only stared at me.That gaze felt like it could tear me apart.I slowly opened my eyes. When I saw what was going on, I immediately struggled out of Steve's arms. I then ran over to Sean."Sean, trust me! I didn't do anything!" I cried desper

'So I'm just a surrogate tool?''Yes. More importantly, I'm downloading the emergency authorization code for his secret offshore trust fund right now. Oh no! Mommy, his system's highest-level security alarm has been triggered! He knows someone accessed his core data!'I felt a chill down my spine.'Don't worry. I erased the traces, but he'll definitely start investigating. He'll think Steve did it.'Even that tiny bit of affection I thought I had received was nothing more than my own fantasy.'Mommy, don't be sad,' Lily comforted me. 'We're going to make him pay!'Caleb had already devised a plan. 'Mommy, Sean's grandfather, the head of the Freeman family, will return from overseas next week for his birthday. He values family above all else. On that day, we'll reveal the entire truth.'Sean's birthday party was held at the Freeman family's old residence. It was my first time stepping inside. The place was solemn and imposing. Every corner carried the weight of a century-old fa

My heart skipped a beat.It was my old phone. He had opened my photo album. Inside were all the pictures I secretly took of him. There were photos of his side profile while he worked, his face while he slept, and the slight frown on his face while he ate. These photos were something I had prepared long ago.Sean looked through them one by one. His expression grew dark. Then he looked up at me. There was a complicated look in his eyes."You–"I looked like a thief caught red-handed. I ran over and tried to grab my phone back."Don't look!"He easily held me down before pulling me into his arms."Why did you take these?""I-I was afraid you would leave me someday. I wanted to keep something to remember you by," I lowered my head and said with a sob.He stayed silent for a long time.It was so long that I thought my lie had been exposed. But suddenly, he lowered his head and kissed me.This kiss still reminded me of his possessive and controlling nature, but there was also

He was slender. The outline of his side profile looked seven parts similar to Sean's, but he lacked Sean's arrogance and hostility. Instead, there was a gentleness to him.At first glance, I thought it was Sean. My heart started pounding. He turned around. A pair of eyes that felt like blades scanned me from head to toe."My informant told me that you were talking to yourself in the bathroom last night for five minutes. Were you discussing countermeasures with your little strategists?"My mind went completely blank. This was not part of the plan.'Mommy, things have changed.' Even Caleb's voice became more serious. 'He tracked us back. There's a signal jammer in this room.'My heart sank."What do you want?" I looked at him cautiously."Take down Sean. I can help you." Steve pushed a cup of freshly brewed coffee toward me. "But nothing comes for free.""I don't understand what you're talking about.""No. You do." Steve smiled, but the smile never reached his eyes.
