Chapter 4

Author: Sweetie Moore
However, I'd refused to go along with it.

Later, after Ivan was injured, Carla was consumed with remorse. She should have ended their twisted relationship then and there, but Ivan couldn't accept it.

He threatened to end his life, and that was when Carla finally deigned to marry me. She endured five years of marriage, all just to get her revenge on me.

Love truly was a powerful thing. It had somehow enabled Carla to play the devoted wife to a man she despised for five whole years.

I couldn't be bothered to read any further, so I put down the phone and headed to the restroom.

Then I heard an argument from the hallway.

"There's only one act of revenge left! So what if Trevor's starting to get suspicious? Are you going to do it or not?"

After a moment's hesitation, Carla refused. "No, I've already put him through so much. If I destroy the one thing keeping him going, I'm afraid he might do something drastic."

Ivan's voice dropped into a furious growl. "Then what about me? Aren't you afraid I'll do something drastic after he's reduced me to this pathetic state? Besides, Trevor is our enemy, so why are you so worried about him? Don't tell me you've actually fallen in love with him?"

Carla fell silent for a moment before firmly shaking her head. "No way. I could never fall in love with Trevor. You're the only one I've ever loved."

"Then prove it to me! Carla, once you've carried out this final act of revenge, you won't owe me anything anymore or force yourself to stay with him!"

Hearing that, Carla gritted her teeth and nodded. "Fine, I'll do it! But this will be the last time."

Even though I'd long since given up hope, their words still cut deep.

Through the narrow gap in the half-open door, I watched Carla take out a backup phone and type out a message.

A moment later, my own phone vibrated in my pocket.

Carla had posted a fabricated exposé, complete with forged evidence.

"Trevor won all his previous championships by doping. Now that drug testing has gotten stricter, and he can no longer get away with it, he's finally lost a match."

The post sent shockwaves through the community.

Since Carla was both my wife and manager, her allegations were quickly reposted by countless industry insiders and major influencers. Before long, everyone in the industry had heard about it.

My sponsors immediately sent over breach-of-contract notices, while my screen was flooded with vile abuse, with people cursing me and even dragging my family into it.

So, this was her final act of revenge—to destroy my entire boxing career and leave me with absolutely no way back.

I turned to leave but accidentally kicked the trash can beside me, sending it crashing to the floor.

"Who's there?"

Carla angrily flung open the stairwell door.

The moment she saw me, she panicked. Even her hands began to tremble uncontrollably.

"When did you get here? Did you hear anything?"

I couldn't understand why she was still putting on an act when she'd already carried out all her revenge.

But I would be leaving soon anyway, and I didn't want to complicate matters.

"Hear what? I just got here."

Carla visibly relaxed.

Realizing I'd noticed Ivan, Carla quickly came up with an excuse. "Ivan has long since let go of the grudges between you two. When he heard you were sick, he even came all this way to visit you."

Neither Ivan nor I said a word, and the air seemed to freeze around us.

Meanwhile, my phone kept ringing incessantly in my pocket.

I answered, and an urgent voice came through the other end.

"What the heck is going on? Did you really take performance-enhancing drugs? You'd better not lie to me! Carla was the one who exposed you, after all. Why would she accuse you of something like that for no reason?"

Oh, she absolutely would.

I said nothing and calmly hung up.

The call had been on speaker, so both Carla and Ivan had heard every word.

Carla pretended to be bewildered before pulling out her phone to check. Then, with exaggerated surprise, she explained, "I didn't do this! Someone must have hacked my account. I'll go find out what's going on right now."

Clutching her phone, she fled in a panic.

Only after Carla had left did Ivan speak up, his voice dripping with provocation.

"You overheard everything just now, didn't you? Carla did all of this for me. Not only that, she was never sick in the first place. She had both your kidneys removed just to get revenge on you."

Russell shook his head. "Mr. Draper doesn't want to see you. I'd advise you to stop wasting time and sign the divorce papers as soon as possible. But it's fine if you refuse to sign it too. I have all the time in the world to drag this out with you."Carla dropped to her knees and begged desperately. "If you just let me see Trevor one more time, I'll agree to anything."Russell sighed. "Ms. Clayton, if only you'd thought of that before. You need to give up on this. Mr. Draper said he'd leave the house to you so that the two of you could settle your differences once and for all. He doesn't want to love you anymore, but he doesn't want to hate you either."After all, hating someone was exhausting too. I just wanted to let go of the past and move on with my life.Carla broke down completely at his reply. Even after learning how terribly she'd hurt me, I had still left the house to her. The fool I was, I still couldn't bring myself to hurt her after all that. How had she been so stupi

  • My Wife Tossed My Kidney for Her Lover   Chapter 9

"Carla, you're just as stubbornly stupid! So what if Ivan got hurt or tried to kill himself? That's his own problem. What does it have to do with you? It's not like you pushed him!"So, why the hell are you blaming yourself, taking care of him, and even helping him take revenge on Trevor? You're beyond help!" Susie kept berating her, practically tearing her hair out in frustration at how blind Carla had been. With Susie jabbing at her forehead and giving her a piece of her mind, Carla finally began to take her words to heart. For the first time, she started to realize that something was wrong. It was true that Ivan's injuries were entirely his own fault, and no one else was to blame. And yet, Carla had foolishly helped him hurt me time and again.Susie sighed. "I honestly can't believe you. Trevor is such a wonderful husband, yet instead of appreciating him, you stupidly chose to love a piece of trash. Carla, the one thing Ivan did right was send you to Trevor."At least it gave y

"Carla, I asked you a question. Why aren't you answering me?" Ivan said unhappily.Carla took a deep breath. Somewhere along the way, she'd started feeling suffocated whenever she was around Ivan. After giving his question some serious thought, she finally said, "Ivan, let's break up."She was truly exhausted after all these years. She no longer wanted to let Ivan use her to hurt others or force her to do things she found despicable. The whole thing was almost laughable. They'd been together for so many years, yet no one had even known about their relationship. As far as the world was concerned, she was still my wife. Even saying the words "let's break up" to Ivan felt absurd, but she genuinely couldn't bear to go on like this anymore.Ivan's eyes widened in shock. "What did you just say?"Carla shrank back a little. "You said before that once I'd finished helping you get your revenge, I wouldn't owe you anything anymore. Now that it's over, let's go our separate ways."She spo

"Carla, Trevor is the one who ruined my life, so how can you believe his side of the story? Besides, my wheelchair was so far from the stairs. It's not like I could just get up, walk over there, and throw myself down the stairs, could I?" Ivan added.Hearing that, Carla let out a cold snort. Then, she pulled out her phone and played the video for him."Is that so? Then what's this? Aren't you clearly standing up on your own?"The moment Ivan saw the footage, his eyes widened in shock. He hadn't expected me to know that Carla wouldn't believe a word I said, so I didn't bother explaining myself. Instead, I prepared a video and let Carla see the truth for herself, leaving Ivan with no room to talk his way out of it.Ivan's eyes darted around as he desperately searched for an explanation. Suddenly, an idea struck him, and he snatched the phone and smashed it to the floor."This isn't real! Can't you tell that this video is obviously AI-generated?"Carla froze. She'd never considered

The footage was blurry, and there was no audio. But Carla had seen it with her own eyes how Ivan, who was supposedly paralyzed from the waist down, had actually stood up. He'd even walked over to the stairwell and thrown himself down the stairs. Her eyes widened in disbelief. "How could this be?"Upon hearing that, Betty leaned over to look at the screen and immediately cried out in shock. "Carla, weren't Ivan's legs supposed to be crippled? How was he able to stand up?"Carla was utterly bewildered.Just then, Ivan called her.In a pitiful voice, he said, "Carla, I feel awful. Can you come keep me company?""Fine," Carla replied, her tone turning noticeably colder. After hanging up, she called me first. She had no idea what I meant by leaving the divorce papers behind, but all she got was a busy signal. This left Carla feeling increasingly impatient, while the unease growing inside her became harder to ignore.Ever since I'd had both my kidneys removed, Carla had noticed tha

I remained expressionless.Ivan was taken aback. Once he recovered, he let out a cold snort."Looks like you already knew. Trevor, this is your comeuppance. If you'd let me win back then, none of this would've happened. Just look at how weak and pathetic you are now. Why, I almost feel sorry for you."I laughed. "Look who's talking. At least I can still get a kidney transplant, whereas you're stuck in a wheelchair and can't even stand up. You're the one who's truly screwed."Instead of getting angry, Ivan burst out laughing. Then, right in front of me, he stood up and even took several steady steps. With a triumphant laugh, he said, "Bet you didn't see that coming, huh? I've been faking it all along! Trevor, you've finally paid the price for your arrogance. All those five years I spent pretending weren't for nothing!"I stared at him in utter disbelief as a wave of profound sorrow washed over me.Because of his supposed paralysis, Carla had deceived me for five years, destroyed
