Chapter 3

작가: Draco Aethel
In the past, seeing her like this, I would have already pulled her into my arms, comforted her, and promised to take good care of her and her brother. However, now, watching her fake performance, I only felt nauseous.

I said nothing and just stared at her, waiting to see how she would continue this act.

Seeing that I remained unmoved, Vivienne cried for a while longer before her voice dropped.

"Honey, I know you're under a lot of pressure and that earning money isn't easy. From now on, I'll make sure Dylan spends less. Please don't be mad at me, okay?"

I stood up, avoiding her gaze. "I'm a bit tired. I’m going to rest in the bedroom."

With that, I walked straight out of the study, leaving Vivienne standing there alone, tear stains still drying on her face.

Back in the bedroom, I lay on the bed, my mind filled with Vivienne's lies and all those transferred assets.

Over the next few days, I acted completely out of character, ignoring her entirely. Vivienne noticed something was off but assumed I was sulking over the whole Dylan situation and tried every trick to please me.

She woke up early every morning to make me breakfast, though the taste remained mediocre as always. She took the initiative to organize my study, arranging the files neatly.

She even swallowed her pride and massaged my shoulders like how she had seen in online videos, massaging my shoulders and back while murmuring, "Honey, you work so hard. From now on, I'll listen to you. I won't ask you for money for Dylan anymore."

Watching her careful, fawning behavior, I felt nothing. Only deep disgust. Every attempt she made to win me over only reminded me of how foolish I once was.

Friday night, we ate dinner together. Vivienne prepared a table full of my favorite dishes and even opened a bottle of wine, trying to ease the tension.

Halfway through the meal, she started her sobbing act again, her eyes reddening as she spoke.

"Honey, I know you're still angry, but Dylan is starting middle school next year. The enrollment fees are going to be expensive, plus tutoring costs. I really have no choice but to keep asking you for money…”

"My parents are completely useless. They're getting old too.”

"Honey, this is so hard for me. You're the only one who can help. If even you won't help me, I really don't know what I'll do..." As she spoke, she poked at her food with her fork, looking pitiful.

I put down my fork and watched her masterful performance, cold laughter echoing in my mind.

Enrollment fees? Tutoring? This money would probably just end up funding Dylan's spending spree again.

Still, I did not call her out. I simply said flatly, "I see. I'll think about it."

My dismissive tone left Vivienne somewhat dissatisfied, but she did not dare say more. She just ate in silence.

After dinner, Vivienne returned to the bedroom. Probably figuring I was still angry, she did not dare disturb me.

I sat on the living room couch and opened my phone, registering a new social media account.

I used a generic female profile picture and changed the username to "Fellow Victim."

I found Vivienne's posting account and, after a moment of hesitation, sent her a private message.

"Girl, you're amazing! My husband always complains I spoil my family too much and calls me obsessed with my brother. But I have my own struggles I can't share. The person I'm actually supporting is my own child, but I can't let him know. How do you keep your husband willing to spend money without suspicion? Need advice. I also want to transfer assets to my kid."

Within minutes, my phone buzzed. Vivienne replied.

"Girl, I feel you! Men are all the same. Soft-hearted and easy to fool. Just cry in front of him more often. Tell him how much you suffered as a child and how biased your parents were. He'll feel sorry for you and agree to whatever you ask.”

"I've been married to my husband for five years. He's never suspected a thing. He always thinks I have it rough and treats my son better than he treats himself. Remember, never confront him directly. Act helpless. Tears are your best weapon."

After the verdict took effect, I immediately contacted Owen and began the process of recovering my assets.Though Vivienne was unwilling, she had no choice but to cooperate under the force of law.The luxury car under her name, the properties, as well as the apartment and savings under Dylan's name were all transferred back to me one by one.The company shares also returned to my hands and I once again held absolute control over my company.Looking at these recovered assets, I felt no excitement; only relief at having survived a disaster. These assets were the fruits of my years of hard work, but they had nearly fallen into Vivienne's hands through deception.Vivienne moved out of my house with Dylan. Before leaving, she tried to demand "compensation" from me. I rejected her outright."Vivienne, the court has made a fair ruling. What you're entitled to, you already got. Stop fantasizing about anything more."Vivienne glared at me fiercely, but did not dare say anything more.B

Mom was baffled by the "son" I mentioned.I slowly explained the truth to my parents. They could not understand Vivienne's behavior and were furious, but they still comforted me."Nathan, if she's that terrible, then get divorced. Don't worry about us. We'll support you."After resolving things with my parents, Vivienne started using Dylan to tie me down. She had Dylan text and call me every day, saying he missed me and asking me to visit them.Dylan would cry on the phone. "Nathan, I know I’m at fault. Please come back. My sister and I both miss you so much."Hearing Dylan's voice, I felt conflicted. There was a time when I doted on him, but the truth had proven that I gave my love to the wrong people.I did not reply to Dylan's messages or answer his calls. He was not innocent either.Soon, the court summons was delivered to Vivienne. On the day of the hearing, Owen and I arrived at the courthouse on time.Vivienne was there too. She wore all black with heavy dark circles u

"Whether it's real or not, we'll find out in court," I said coldly. "Vivienne, we have nothing left to discuss. You'd better leave now. Otherwise, I'm calling security."Vivienne looked at me, her eyes filled with hatred. She glared at me viciously, grabbed her bag, and stormed out.Watching her retreating figure, I felt no satisfaction.I truly loved her once. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine she would become the person she was today. After Vivienne left, I thought she would lay low for a while. I was wrong. She was never one to back down.Early the next morning, as soon as I arrived at the company building, I saw Vivienne standing at the entrance with Dylan. The moment she spotted me, she rushed over, grabbed my legs, and cried. "Nathan, I was wrong. I really know I was wrong. Please forgive me just this once, okay? Let's not get divorced. Let's live our lives properly. Please?"Dylan joined in with his own tears and dramatics."Nathan, I was wrong. I won't cause trou

"You..." Vivienne was so choked up she could not speak. She hung up angrily.I paid her no further attention and threw myself into work. Only by keeping busy could I temporarily forget these unpleasant things. In the afternoon, after finishing work at the company, I took the organized evidence to the law firm.Owen was already waiting for me in his office."Nathan, is everything ready?" Owen asked."All set." I handed the evidence to Owen. "These are proof of Vivienne's marriage fraud and asset transfers. Take a look and see if they're usable."Owen took the evidence and carefully reviewed it.After a while, he looked up and nodded at me. "Nathan, the evidence is very solid. The chances of winning are extremely high.""Good." I breathed a sigh of relief. "Then please file the lawsuit as soon as possible. I want to end this ridiculous marriage quickly.""No problem," Owen said. "I'll prepare the complaint today and officially submit it to the court tomorrow. I'll keep you updat

I instinctively stepped back, avoiding him.Seeing he could not shove me, Dylan grew even angrier. He turned and kicked the coffee table. The cups and fruit bowls on the table crashed to the floor, shattering into pieces. Still unsatisfied, he grabbed at the curtains, yelling, "How dare you bully my sister! Do you think you can stop buying me stuff? A house? Gold? I'll wreck this whole place! Let's see you try that again!"Vivienne stood to the side. Not only did she not stop him, she even egged him on."That's right! He’s treating us badly, so why should we be polite?"Watching this unreasonable mother and son pair, I was completely enraged. I took a deep breath, forcing down the fury inside me, and pulled out my phone to call building security."Hello, security? Someone is deliberately damaging property in my unit. Please send some securities up."Vivienne did not expect me to actually call for help. Her face changed. She lunged forward, trying to grab my phone."Nathan, are

Vivenne still refused to give up. Clutching my arm, she begged desperately."Honey, I was wrong. I was really wrong! I shouldn't have said those things online. I shouldn't have complained to strangers. But I was confused. I just felt so wronged and needed someone to talk to. Dylan really is my brother. I didn't lie to you. Please forgive me just this once, okay?"Tears streamed down her face, making her look pitiful. In the past, I would have felt sorry for her immediately and forgiven her on the spot, but now I only felt disgust."Save your fake tears." I yanked my hand away. "I already gave you a chance and you blew it. We're done."Seeing my firm attitude with no room for negotiation, Vivienne's tears stopped instantly. The expression on her face shifted from pitiful to vicious and resentful. She straightened up and stared at me, her eyes filled with hatred."Nathan Brennan, don't be so ungrateful!"It was the first time I heard her voice so sharp.
