Chapter 2

작가: Draco Aethel
Now, as I looked at this photo, I realized that it was nothing more than a snapshot of this entire scam. It was so glaring I wanted to rip it off the wall and smash it to pieces.

I stood up and walked into the study, turning on the computer to organize whatever financial documents I could find.

The more I reviewed the bank statements, transfer records, property purchase contracts, and equity certificates, the heavier my heart sank.

Vivienne's salary was not high. She basically relied on me to support her.

Under her name was a luxury car worth half a million dollars, along with several designer handbags. These were all things I bought for her because I felt sorry for her, telling her that "a woman should treat herself well."

However, I never imagined that she not only spent my money on herself, but also transferred large amounts to Dylan.

At noon, Owen's call came through. "Nathan, the preliminary investigation results are in.”

"Over the past five years, 15% of your company shares were transferred to Vivienne in three separate transactions, all under the 'gift' designation. The paperwork is complete and looks voluntary on your part, but I checked the dates. They were all processed while you were on business trips or swamped with work at the company.”

"As for your two properties downtown, one already has 50% ownership transferred to Dylan, claiming she was 'saving a wedding house for her brother'. The other is still under your name, but she has already used it as collateral for a loan. Two million dollars. I have no idea where that money went.”

"Then there are your savings. Over the past three years, your salary, bonuses, plus company dividends totaled around eight million. Of that, over six million flowed into Vivienne and Dylan's accounts through various transfers and purchases. Dylan's tuition and tutoring were all paid with your money."

Every sentence Owen spoke landed like a hammer blow to my chest.

Over eight million dollars. Six years of hard work. I scrimped and saved, focused only on building a good life and on giving Vivienne a stable home.

I never imagined that the money I worked so hard to earn all went to support her and someone else's child.

"There's more," Owen added. "We found a bank card under Dylan's name. Over the past year, there were several large deposits totaling over a million dollars. The sources are all unfamiliar accounts. It looks like Vivienne funneled money through third-party accounts to avoid detection."

I leaned back in my chair, feeling completely drained.

Five years of devotion. Five years of trust. All in exchange for such thorough, calculated fraud.

I was a clown, thinking myself a prince rescuing a damsel in distress, yet unknowingly becoming nothing more than her cash cow.

Late in the evening, Vivienne finally came home. She carried several shopping bags, just like always, her face wearing a gentle smile as she walked into the study.

"Honey, why didn't you go to the office today? I bought you those strawberries you love, and a new dress shirt. Try it on and see if it fits."

Her tone was natural, playfully affectionate as always.

I raised my head, suppressing the rage churning inside me. My voice came out calmer than I expected.

"It’s nothing much. I’m just tired so I’m resting at home for a bit."

Vivienne sensed the coldness in my tone. The smile on her face faltered slightly. She walked over, trying to take my arm.

"Honey, what's wrong? Is work not going well? Or did I do something to make you angry?"

The moment her hand touched my arm, I instinctively pulled away.

Vivienne's hand froze mid-air. Her eyes instantly welled up as she started her usual routine.

"Honey, are you disgusted with me now? Do you think I'm too obsessed with my brother because I keep asking you to spend money on Dylan? But I have no choice. Dylan is still young. He's my only brother. If I don't take care of him, who will?”

"My parents never loved me growing up. Only Dylan is close to me. I really can't abandon him..."

As she spoke, she wiped away tears, sobbing dramatically.

After the verdict took effect, I immediately contacted Owen and began the process of recovering my assets.Though Vivienne was unwilling, she had no choice but to cooperate under the force of law.The luxury car under her name, the properties, as well as the apartment and savings under Dylan's name were all transferred back to me one by one.The company shares also returned to my hands and I once again held absolute control over my company.Looking at these recovered assets, I felt no excitement; only relief at having survived a disaster. These assets were the fruits of my years of hard work, but they had nearly fallen into Vivienne's hands through deception.Vivienne moved out of my house with Dylan. Before leaving, she tried to demand "compensation" from me. I rejected her outright."Vivienne, the court has made a fair ruling. What you're entitled to, you already got. Stop fantasizing about anything more."Vivienne glared at me fiercely, but did not dare say anything more.B

Mom was baffled by the "son" I mentioned.I slowly explained the truth to my parents. They could not understand Vivienne's behavior and were furious, but they still comforted me."Nathan, if she's that terrible, then get divorced. Don't worry about us. We'll support you."After resolving things with my parents, Vivienne started using Dylan to tie me down. She had Dylan text and call me every day, saying he missed me and asking me to visit them.Dylan would cry on the phone. "Nathan, I know I’m at fault. Please come back. My sister and I both miss you so much."Hearing Dylan's voice, I felt conflicted. There was a time when I doted on him, but the truth had proven that I gave my love to the wrong people.I did not reply to Dylan's messages or answer his calls. He was not innocent either.Soon, the court summons was delivered to Vivienne. On the day of the hearing, Owen and I arrived at the courthouse on time.Vivienne was there too. She wore all black with heavy dark circles u

"Whether it's real or not, we'll find out in court," I said coldly. "Vivienne, we have nothing left to discuss. You'd better leave now. Otherwise, I'm calling security."Vivienne looked at me, her eyes filled with hatred. She glared at me viciously, grabbed her bag, and stormed out.Watching her retreating figure, I felt no satisfaction.I truly loved her once. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine she would become the person she was today. After Vivienne left, I thought she would lay low for a while. I was wrong. She was never one to back down.Early the next morning, as soon as I arrived at the company building, I saw Vivienne standing at the entrance with Dylan. The moment she spotted me, she rushed over, grabbed my legs, and cried. "Nathan, I was wrong. I really know I was wrong. Please forgive me just this once, okay? Let's not get divorced. Let's live our lives properly. Please?"Dylan joined in with his own tears and dramatics."Nathan, I was wrong. I won't cause trou

"You..." Vivienne was so choked up she could not speak. She hung up angrily.I paid her no further attention and threw myself into work. Only by keeping busy could I temporarily forget these unpleasant things. In the afternoon, after finishing work at the company, I took the organized evidence to the law firm.Owen was already waiting for me in his office."Nathan, is everything ready?" Owen asked."All set." I handed the evidence to Owen. "These are proof of Vivienne's marriage fraud and asset transfers. Take a look and see if they're usable."Owen took the evidence and carefully reviewed it.After a while, he looked up and nodded at me. "Nathan, the evidence is very solid. The chances of winning are extremely high.""Good." I breathed a sigh of relief. "Then please file the lawsuit as soon as possible. I want to end this ridiculous marriage quickly.""No problem," Owen said. "I'll prepare the complaint today and officially submit it to the court tomorrow. I'll keep you updat

I instinctively stepped back, avoiding him.Seeing he could not shove me, Dylan grew even angrier. He turned and kicked the coffee table. The cups and fruit bowls on the table crashed to the floor, shattering into pieces. Still unsatisfied, he grabbed at the curtains, yelling, "How dare you bully my sister! Do you think you can stop buying me stuff? A house? Gold? I'll wreck this whole place! Let's see you try that again!"Vivienne stood to the side. Not only did she not stop him, she even egged him on."That's right! He’s treating us badly, so why should we be polite?"Watching this unreasonable mother and son pair, I was completely enraged. I took a deep breath, forcing down the fury inside me, and pulled out my phone to call building security."Hello, security? Someone is deliberately damaging property in my unit. Please send some securities up."Vivienne did not expect me to actually call for help. Her face changed. She lunged forward, trying to grab my phone."Nathan, are

Vivenne still refused to give up. Clutching my arm, she begged desperately."Honey, I was wrong. I was really wrong! I shouldn't have said those things online. I shouldn't have complained to strangers. But I was confused. I just felt so wronged and needed someone to talk to. Dylan really is my brother. I didn't lie to you. Please forgive me just this once, okay?"Tears streamed down her face, making her look pitiful. In the past, I would have felt sorry for her immediately and forgiven her on the spot, but now I only felt disgust."Save your fake tears." I yanked my hand away. "I already gave you a chance and you blew it. We're done."Seeing my firm attitude with no room for negotiation, Vivienne's tears stopped instantly. The expression on her face shifted from pitiful to vicious and resentful. She straightened up and stared at me, her eyes filled with hatred."Nathan Brennan, don't be so ungrateful!"It was the first time I heard her voice so sharp. "You think just because yo
