Chapter 3

Author: Sweetie Moore
Seth's POV

The short video ended with the reporter offering their congratulations. After exiting the video, I realized that Sharon'd clicked on a clarification post.

The trending topic at the moment was Regina's scandal. "Famous Businesswoman Regina Morgan Revealed to Have Been Married for Years Yet Rekindles Romance with First Love Lucas Jenson and Gives Birth to His Illegitimate Child."

The woman who had once insisted on keeping her marriage a secret for the sake of her career couldn't bear to see Lucas being cyberbullied, so she had gone so far as to bring in reporters to clear his name.

Regina had made countless excuses, but in reality, she simply didn't love me.

I was lost in thought when someone abruptly shoved me, nearly making me lose my footing. "Give me that phone, you blockhead!"

When I remained silent, Sharon snatched her phone out of my hand and called Regina.

Regina answered almost instantaneously.

Assuming I'd called to confront her about publicly acknowledging Lucas, she guiltily changed the subject. "I bought you a Porsche, Seth. In the days that follow, you can take Winona out for a drive to clear your head.

"You can go to the mall and pick up some clothes and bags, too; just use the supplementary card I left in the drawer. Spend as much as you like. Don't worry about the money."

Sharon shot me a disdainful look when she heard that. "No wonder you don't care about my daughter's scandal; you've been bought off with her money. Poor people are always so short-sighted; you only care about what's right in front of you and not the future.

"Keep pretending to be magnanimous, and see what happens when Lucas drives a wedge between you two. You might not even get to be my son-in-law then!"

When Regina realized Sharon had answered the call, her tone immediately turned hostile. "What are you on about, Mom? Lucas is a good man; he's not as bad as you make him out to be! Besides, my only husband is Seth, and that will never change."

Sharon looked down on me, yet she was afraid that Regina would fall into the same trap again, so she strongly opposed their reconciliation.

After hearing Regina's firm declaration, Sharon breathed a sigh of relief. The latter gave me a look that said, "Well, at least you're good for something."

The mother and daughter chatted animatedly, treating me like an object they could choose to keep or discard as they pleased. Yet, neither of them had ever asked whether I wanted to continue this marriage.

I snatched my phone back and said solemnly, "Let's get a divorce, Regina. I'll let you two be together."

Regina fell silent on the other end of the line for a long while before coldly saying, "Wait for me at home." Then, she ended the call.

Sharon frowned at me. "Don't take this too far. She just gave birth and needs her rest."

Neither of them believed I genuinely wanted a divorce. Both of them thought I was playing mind games to win Regina's attention.

I didn't bother explaining myself. I carried Mom's urn upstairs to pack my belongings.

I stuffed a few scarves that Mom had knitted before she passed away into my suitcase. Once I was done, I was about to head downstairs when I noticed a photo of Regina and me on the table.

The only photo we had together was our wedding portrait. Regina was dressed in an elaborate wedding gown, yet there was a hint of sorrow on her face.

So much time had passed that I'd almost forgotten—she had never been willing to marry me in the first place.

Seven years ago, she had insisted on marrying Lucas—a man with a terrible reputation—despite her parents' fierce opposition.

However, on the day of the wedding, Lucas had jilted her at the altar and made her the laughingstock of high society.

Regina gritted her teeth on stage and declared that she would marry whoever was willing to take her as his wife.

The guests at that wedding were all from wealthy, influential families, so not a single one of them was willing to take on someone else's castoff.

At the time, I was her wedding photographer. I'd been secretly in love with her for years, and I had gone to great lengths to get close to her.

I couldn't bear to see her in such a miserable state. Hence, amid a sea of mocking looks, I stepped up and saw the ceremony through with her.

I'd only intended to help her out. I had never dared to dream that I could truly be with her.

However, when I said my goodbyes, she took my head and looked me in the eye. "I'm a woman of my word. Since you came to ask for my hand, I'll marry you. For the rest of my life, no matter what happens, my husband will only ever be you!"

Seth's POVRegina had committed a crime, and she'd had to go to prison to atone for her own actions. Unwilling to listen to her endless rambling any longer, I cut her off. "That's enough. I don't want to hear it. We're over. There's no going back. From now on, don't call me unless it's about the divorce!""Hold on, Seth!" Regina panicked, afraid I wouldn't hear her out. "If you're upset about that child's existence, I can give him up for adoption. Can you come back and give me another chance? Didn't your mother always want to see you have a child while she was alive? We can have one of our own and make her dream come true!"Irritated, I hung up on her.Regina's name popped up on my screen again in no time. I couldn't be bothered to listen to another word from her. I messaged my lawyer and left Regina's case entirely in his hands. I was determined to get divorced. …A month after Mom passed away, I still hadn't come to terms with her death. Every corner of this house was fill

  • My Wife's Newborn, My Mother's Coffin   Chapter 9

Seth's POVI had left Mom's death in the hands of the cops and entrusted the divorce proceedings to my lawyer. Regina, the woman I'd once loved with every fiber of my being, was someone I no longer wanted to see, not even for a second. If it weren't for the pending divorce lawsuit that made cutting contact impossible, I wouldn't have even answered this call. Regina wasn't upset in the slightest. In fact, she actually apologized to me for once. "I'm terribly sorry about what happened to your mother, but I never intended to take her life. Even though I didn't particularly like her, I never slighted her when it came to gifts. "Winona's gone now, but the living still have to carry on with their lives, don't they? She would want you to be happy, too. She also—" "That's enough!" I snapped, cutting her off. "It was precisely because she wanted me to be happy so badly that she endured everything for my sake, only to end up dead by your hands! Regina Morgan, are you telling me all this

Seth's POVMom told me she was getting old and didn't want to get in my way. Last time, when Dad's grave was dug up, no one was more heartbroken or devastated than Mom. Yet, she knew I couldn't let go of Regina, so she comforted me and even made excuses for Regina. "Reggie wants to be childfree, and us dinosaurs just don't understand your modern trends. Maybe your mother-in-law has been pressuring her too much to have a baby, and she's been bottling up her frustration for a while. That's probably why her reaction was so extreme."At the end of the day, you two are married. If you have an issue, you should talk it out and work it through. You can't keep giving each other the silent treatment like this. Hurry up and find an excuse to make up with her already." Looking at her white hair, I refused to compromise. I was a good employee at work, a dutiful husband at home, and a son-in-law Sharon could count on. However, the one role I'd failed at was being a good son. I couldn'

Third-person POVHowever, Regina was well aware that it was wrong. She told herself time and time again that Lucas was a liar, yet she still couldn't help but believe him.The moment she learned that Lucas' days were numbered, all her lingering resentment dissolved into smoke. All she wanted was to put an end to everything once and for all, to help him one final time and, in doing so, help herself move on, too. Little did she know, she'd been deceived once again.Lucas was perfectly fine. Everything he'd done had been nothing more than an elaborate scheme to trick her into having his child. Because of that lie, she'd given Seth the silent treatment for nine months, and she hadn't even dared to reach out to him. She'd wanted to wait until the dust settled. Regina had thought that since Seth knew about her history with Lucas and was still willing to marry her, what difference would one more child make? She'd firmly believed that even at their wedding seven years ago, Seth woul

  • My Wife's Newborn, My Mother's Coffin   Chapter 6

Third-person POV"What? My mother-in-law is dead?" Regina stared at the officers before her in disbelief. She took one look at Lucas, who was standing beside her, and instantly put her guard up. "When did my mother-in-law pass away?"The police officer frowned. "Last Monday."Regina scoffed. "Nonsense. My mother-in-law was perfectly fine last Monday. She even had enough energy to throw hands. "Did he hire you to pretend to be cops? Where'd you buy your uniforms? They're pretty convincing." Regina completely relaxed, assuming they were actors hired by Seth. Seth had made so many threats yesterday that she'd actually thought he was going to leave her. Yet, after only a night, he was already so impatient that he'd sent people over to put on a show. Lost in her own reverie, she failed to notice that Lucas' face had turned ghastly white. He, who was usually so talkative, was dead silent at this moment, wishing he could become invisible. Noticing she was all smiles, the poli

Seth's POVRegina was dumbfounded. She seized my arm. "What on earth is wrong with you?"I had brought up divorce so many times, yet she still thought I was just throwing a tantrum. "I'm serious. I wish you both well. After seven years apart, you've finally found your way back to each other."I'd once trashed our home in an attempt to keep Regina and Lucas apart. She'd called me immature, put me under house arrest for a week, and took off on a trip with Lucas instead. Now that I was sincerely wishing them well, instead of being relieved, Regina scowled at me. "I've already apologized and given you gifts, Seth. If you're still unsatisfied, just tell me what you want, okay?" Having said that, she suddenly remembered something and muttered to herself, "Hold on… You would never be this cruel to me. This must be your mother's idea!"Regina was furious, and she dialed Mom's number. However, the phone in my pocket began to ring. Regina still thought I'd hidden Mom somewhere. "Seth
