A Dangerous Man

"You're Arabella, aren't you?" He asked again because I didn't answer.

I nodded as I looked the other way, finding him very uncomfortable. "Isn't it wrong of Dallas to leave me with a friend like this?" I said to myself, looking at the shiny marble floor.

I saw faintly out of the tail of my eye, Sean gesturing for her to leave through the back door, then looking at me with some confusion because my welcoming situation was too intense. "Okay." He flicked his gaze around the room while patting his hand on his thigh for no reason. "So about not picking up, I apologize."

He didn't sound sincere and more like he was making excuses and didn't want me to bring it up to Dallas. I didn't lift my face to look at him. I just glanced at him from the tail of my eyes.

"As you can see, there's been a bit of a...flurry of activity here." He scratched his nose as he sounded like he was choosing the right words that were a little kinder to hear.

When I heard his reasoning, I couldn't believe it. I began questioning why Dallas would entrust me to a dangerous creature like Sean. Whereas Dallas had been so restraining and protective of me, this made no sense. I lifted my face and looked at Sean. I noticed that Sean was trying to smile kindly at me. Looking at him, I questioned Dallas' reason for leaving me with Sean even more.

Dallas was the fence that bounded me, and inside Dallas' wall, my movements were restricted. So, seeing that kind of thing was a first for me and seemed very taboo to me because Dallas made sure my environment was clean with vulgar and sexual things.

"Hey, you." Sean waved his hand in front of my face. He looked down, trying to draw my focus, which was smaller than his. "Are you listening to me, Bella?"

I lifted my face as I heard Sean call me by my little name. She looked up into the man's face. "Arabella," I muttered almost inaudibly, saying it in full.

Sean tilted his head. He stared uncomprehendingly. "Sean Alexander." Sean joined in saying his name.

That's not what I meant. I didn’t ask Sean for an introduction, but I didn't want Sean to call me pretentious, especially since I had just witnessed what Sean was doing with passion.

But speaking of names, I finally remembered who Sean was. The man was a friend from Dallas' high school days, but I knew little about Sean's frequent visits to our house. Dallas said Sean didn't care about the women interested in him. He ignored them and only saw them as troublesome bullies.

I averted my eyes from Sean. After I witnessed the incident earlier, it was hard for me to look at Sean usually. My eyes moved uncomfortably to avoid Sean's gaze. I didn't feel comfortable dealing with Sean, who seemed quite strange.

As I shifted my gaze, I faintly saw Sean sighing. He looked pretty confused about the current situation and seemed to question his decision to let me stay at his house for a while.

Then Sean noticed my appearance.

He looked at me from the bottom. The way he stared irritated me, and then I noticed the direction of his eyes. The miniskirt I was wearing probably attracted Sean's attention, so I lowered my bag to cover it, and Sean, who saw it, returned his gaze to my face.

What's wrong with him? Why is he watching me so intensely?

Does he have a problem with his eyes? Or is he doubting that I'm Dallas' sister and is starting to look for our similarities? But the way he was staring pissed me off.

He was still standing there with his eyes fixed firmly on me. He seemed to be paying attention, but I don't know what was on his mind.

I moved from my position to make him realize that his stare at me was very distracting.

He realized it. "Let me take you to your room." Sean was like Jekyl and hide. Now, he looked normal and spoke to me calmly.

I stayed where I was. I didn't move from there and just looked at Sean hesitantly. I don't think following him is the right thing to do.

Sean, already walking, looked back because I didn't follow him. "What are you doing? Why are you still there?" He looked confused. "Do you want me to carry you upstairs?" He offered and began to approach.

He was a little crazy. I shook my head quickly and started to walk ahead of him, then glanced back to give Sean the code for direction.

Sean led me to the second floor and opened one of the room doors. "This room is your room," he glanced at me. "You can treat it like your own home, do whatever you want to place the things you like, go ahead. I won't forbid it." He explained, then pointed to the room at the other end. "And the one at the other end is my room. You can come to see me if you need anything." He looked at me who didn't move from my spot.

Looking at me, Sean sighed. Then he walked into the room he had prepared for me. "Come in, don't just stand there. See what doesn't fit and tell me, I'll add it." Since I didn't go in and seemed hesitant, Sean pulled me inside.

"Are you afraid of me? It's too late. I won't do anything to you anyway. You're Dallas' sister." He laughed. "And you're not my type." The look on his face was infuriating to my eyes, which felt twisted by his words.

But hearing it, I calmed down a little. At least I felt safe knowing that Dallas bound Sean.

Sean turned to me again. "So from morning to noon, there will be people who come to take care of this place, then afterward, they will go home and return the next day." He explained casually. "So you don't have to do anything except for the things that make you comfortable. You can enjoy your time in peace."

I glanced around. Then he turned my gaze to Sean. "Thank you," I said to Sean, this time not mumbling in an indistinct voice that was barely audible.

Sean's eyes seemed to change. He was stunned for a moment at the sound of my voice. I was surprised to see him. My voice wasn't that strange that he needed to feel that surprised. "Oh, so you can talk?" She responded ignorantly. "I thought you could only mumble like a child."

Sean gave me a slight grin with eyes that followed me. His gaze on me was utterly unexplainable. He looked like he was trying to flirt, but not really. One thing I can be sure of, he's a freak.

I widened my eyes at the man. "I'm not a child." When I spoke, he immediately responded by pulling a smile to look at me.

"Then what happened to you earlier?" He asked in a made-up tone like he was talking to a baby.

I found Sean to be an extraordinary human. I wrinkled my face, looking at him. "Who would act normally when he saw what happened earlier when he came to the strange house he was going to live in? I'm shocked!" I snorted.

Sean smiled at me. "Oh well, if you would have waited outside for a while and not come straight in, maybe I would have greeted you more politely." He reasoned while winking at me.

I was stunned. "It's not my fault the door wasn't locked," I argued.

Sean nodded. "I know. Then enjoy your time here. I'll be in my room. You can rest. I'll call you when it's tomb night." Then he walked out, leaving me to stare at his departure with relief.

After that, I put my bag on the floor. Then I sat on the bed while moving around to make sure it was comfortable, and then I laid my body down on it comfortably, looking up at the ceiling of the room that was filled with beautifully carved patterns. I let out a deep breath. "Everything will be fine. I'll be fine," I muttered softly as I closed my eyes.
