Chapter 4

Jane's POV

Jane layed on her bed facing the ceiling in confusion and smiling weakly at her self. "What did I ever do wrong to deserve this? And here I was thinking that my life was perfect not knowing that i have been sold to an unknown buyer, a prince. And I am expected to be happy. I thought I was free least did I expect that my fate had been decided all this while. I don't even know how to feel and here I was thinking that i would go out, fall in love and have a mate, someone the goddess would direct to me but no I already have a husband all for royalty!"

"Hey, no need to panic. What if the Alpha prince is our mate? Stop being judgemental okay.

Anytime Elsa speaks to me even with a friendly tone, I still get scared. Maybe it's because I was still trying to get used to it.

Lost in thoughts and anger that clouded her entire feelings, she slept off.

......

Meanwhile at the palace George laid on his bed as a knock came through.

Knock! Knock!,

Open! He responded.

The door opened and a tall beautiful woman entered the room. This was the Queen, George's mother.

Realizing that it was his mom, George turned his face towards the ceiling as he spoke "I didn't think that you and Dad would be back so soon".

"Don't tell me that you are still sad. You should know better. It is something your grandfather agreed to do when your father was ill. We're sorry you had to be the victim but there's nothing we could do about it rather than accept it. I know we didn't tell you earlier and that is where we are at fault but trust me the girl is beautiful and I'm sure you will like her" moving closer to him, " you have to like her for your father's sake.

But mom I'm not happy with this arrangement. I have feelings for someone else already, George replied almost tearing out.

And your father doesn't care. The girl you claim to like, does she know of your health issues? And all the drugs you have to take just to stay alive, does she know? The look on his face could tell that he hasn't told her yet about the disease he is suffering from. "No woman would want you despite your position as a prince and a future king because of your ailment and this is why your father have choosen to honor your grandfather's wish. Please take it as a blessing from the goddess destined before you were born."

Please don't remind me of my ailment I know very well I'm not well in health but it isn't my fault and yes I haven't told Jessica that I'm sick but at least I know she loves me and it's not for pity and then what about the so called Jane, does she know that her future husband who she has never met is sick or she just jumped at the offer on hearing that I'm a prince?

Son right now it doesn't matter. All we are after is for your own good and keeping the family alive. We need an heir immediately as we cannot tell the future. If she could just bear you an heir then we would feel more secure. And since you had your wolf, you've not gotten a mate so what does that tell you. This is your fate son, you must accept it.

George turned his face away from his mother and did not say a word to her again. He was extremely sad. Even though he was struck with a strange sickness, he didn't know why it seemed as though there won't be a cure and death was what he was scared of.

His mom noticing his change of attitude left the room with pity for her son but the mindset of doing what has to be done even though she didn't want to.

...........

Jane, Jane?, Mrs rose stood at the front of Jane's room whose door was locked and called out to her daughter who wouldn't speak to anyone. "Jane darling, common I know you're in there. It's dinner time and trust me I made your favorite."

Ignoring her mother's call, she remained silent as tho she didn't hear a word she said.

Mrs rose being all frustrated and angry at the same time couldn't bring herself to making the same mistake her husband made by lashing out on Jane. She heaved a sigh still looking at the door. "It's alright then since you now derive pleasure in keeping me quiet as tho I mean nothing to you then I'll leave. Be sure to come out when ever you are ready." She turned and decided to leave her alone.

Jane knew that her mom was trying to emotionally blackmail her and it worked. No matter how angry she was, she hated to see her mom sad because of her.

She rushed to the door and opened it. "Mom, she called out. "Please wait, I'm sorry. I'm just angry and I don't want you angry."

Mrs Rose turned around and walked towards her daughter and gave her a hug. Jane wasn't expecting it but it felt warm and enough to make her forget all that is bothering her.

"Just come out and have dinner with us your father is already missing you and your siblings are bored." She released herself from the hug and smiled before turning around to leave.

Okay Mom, I'm coming. Watching her mom as she left, she began to think why she's so much attached to her mom. "Sighs, well she's my mom."

At the dinning,

Mrs Rose dished everyone's meal and they began to eat after giving thanks to the goddess.

"Dad I'm sorry.... Jane was about to apologise but was cut in the middle before she could finish her sentence.

"Forget it dear, he waved his hand and cleared his throat. "let's just eat. There's no need for you to apologise. Placing a gamble with you was wrong and I'm sorry for that.

"It's okay dad, it wasn't your fault at all and that's what I failed to understand at first."

"I'm glad you now understand and I hope we won't have any issues when the king invites you over for dinner at the palace in a week time."

"Hmmm, Jane paused and heaved a sigh before responding. "Not like I have a choice. I guess there won't be any issues.

"Alright then, with a smile on his face. "Let's eat."

During the conversation no one dares contribute as the conversation seems to be between two elephants and everyone knew the damage it could cause if it didn't end well.

They all ate silently with everyone secretly peeping at Jane for no special reason.

Meanwhile, the palace itself wasn't as lively as usual since the news of the prince's new bride has spread due to the preparation that were being made.

Most of the guards and maids. Knew that the prince was in love with someone else so they were curious as to whom the new bride is. Some felt pity for the prince as it was clear that the king had choosed someone the prince doesn't want while some choose to feel pity for Jessica, the one the prince is in love with.
