CHAPTER TWENTY NINE

“Am I making you nervous, Bambi?”

I didn’t do it on purpose, but my voice was low and husky as if I was afraid someone would hear, even though I knew we were alone.

“No,” she stuttered, but I could see it in her eyes and on the vein in her throat. Her heart was racing.

“Liar,” I whispered into her ear, when I came close enough.

“Why did you come here?”

“To... Celebrate Christmas?” she said and swallowed again. I could see the tip of her tongue sweep across her lower lip, and I cursed at all the impure thoughts that were flooding my mind. This was bad. All the hours of therapy suddenly seemed completely worthless now that I was back to balancing on the sword of temptation.

“I ask again...”

I was now standing right behind her and was literally breathing down her neck, and the proximity made her shudder. She barely dared to move, and her hand was hanging useless over the bowl.

“Why did you come, Bambi?”

God, how I wanted to lean in and kiss her neck!
