They say first love is something you never forget.

For a long time, I believed that my first love story would become the most beautiful memory of my life. I imagined telling my children one day how their father and I had met, how we had overcome every obstacle before finally building a family together.

I never imagined that it would all end in so much pain.

My name is Marie Rose.

I was twenty-two years old, and as far as I was concerned, my life was almost perfect. I had a job I loved, parents who had always supported me, a best friend I trusted blindly… and, above all, Julien Terry.

For three years, he had occupied every corner of my thoughts.

I loved him with all my heart.

I had stood by his side through the hardest moments. I had put up with his absences, the promises he so often failed to keep, and the distance he sometimes showed for no reason. Whenever my family and friends tried to make me see the truth, I always answered with the same smile:

— You don't know him the way I do.

I was convinced that love could fix anything.

How wrong I was.

That evening, the Terry family was hosting a luxurious gala at one of the city's most prestigious hotels. Their company had just signed a historic contract, and the most influential figures in the business world had gathered for the event.

Julien had asked me to arrive a little later.

He had promised me a surprise.

Even thinking about it now still brings a smile to my face… because I had prepared something special for him too.

At the bottom of my bag was a small box. Inside was a luxury watch I had bought after saving for several months.

I wanted to show him that, despite all our arguments, I still believed in us.

I wanted to talk to him about our future, our dreams, and the life I imagined building by his side.

But fate had other plans.

As I walked down the corridor leading to the private rooms, bursts of laughter caught my attention. The door to one of the rooms was slightly open.

Then I heard that voice.

Julien's voice.

My heart began pounding violently.

I thought he was simply talking with a few guests. Without giving it much thought, I walked closer to the door.

I gently pushed it open.

And in a single second…

My entire world collapsed.

Julien was kissing another woman.

I stood frozen.

Unable to breathe.

The small box slipped from my fingers and hit the floor with a sharp sound that echoed throughout the room.

They slowly turned toward me.

Julien didn't even pull away from her.

He didn't look surprised, embarrassed, or guilty.

His eyes were cold.

As if my presence no longer meant anything to him.

At that moment, I understood that there are wounds too deep to explain.

You simply have to live through them.

They sink into the deepest parts of your heart, tear apart everything you once believed was unbreakable, and destroy you in complete silence.

I didn't know yet that this night would mark the end of the woman I had been until then.

Nor did I imagine that, just a few days later, fate would place in my path the man I never thought I could fall in love with.

Clark Terry.

The uncle of the man who had just shattered my heart.

And perhaps…

The only man capable of making it beat again.

A heavy silence fell over the room.Clark exchanged a brief glance with Daniel before turning to the nurse.“Where is Matthew?”“In the emergency department,” he replied. “The doctors are doing everything they can to stabilize him.”Clark didn't waste a second.“Let's go.”He immediately turned to the two security guards standing watch at the door.“No one leaves this room. Protect André at all costs.”“Yes, sir.”Before leaving, I looked at André one last time.Despite the exhaustion written all over his face, he still found the strength to give me a slight nod. It was a small gesture, but it managed to reassure me.I gave him a faint smile before following Clark, Daniel, and the nurse down the corridor.---A few minutes later, we arrived at the emergency department.Matthew Collins was lying on a hospital bed.His face bore the marks of the accident. Several injuries covered his skin, and a white bandage was wrapped around his forehead. The machines surrounding him filled the silen

Clark stood motionless, his eyes fixed on his phone screen. He didn't say a word.I watched as his fingers slowly tightened around the device, gripping it so hard that his knuckles turned white.A deep sense of unease began to creep over me.“Clark... what's wrong?”He didn't answer. He continued staring at the photograph as though he refused to believe what he was seeing.Daniel stepped closer. The moment he saw the image, his expression changed completely. The photograph had been taken during a meeting at Terry Group.Clark was standing there, relaxed and smiling alongside several members of his team. But one face stood out from all the others.Daniel let out a whisper.“No...”I gently took the phone from Clark's hands. My eyes scanned the photograph. Then I understood. The man standing right beside Clark...It was Matthew Collins.Terry Group's chief financial officer.Always impeccably dressed.Always calm.Always present at the meetings where the company's most important decisio

An eerie chill seemed to sweep through the room.Nobody said a word.Clark kept his eyes fixed on the piece of paper. He remained motionless. Only his fingers, tightly clenched around the sheet, betrayed the tension building inside him.I felt my uneasiness grow.“Clark... what's wrong?”He finally raised his eyes to mine. His face was paler than usual.“I'm not the only one on this list...”Daniel immediately stepped closer.Without a word, Clark handed him the document.Daniel began reading it slowly. The farther he got, the more his eyebrows furrowed.Every name had been handwritten.Clark Terry.Marie Rose.Ethan Lawson. And many others. So many others. Some had been crossed out with a large red X.I swallowed with difficulty.“What does this mean?”André took a labored breath before answering. His voice was so weak that I practically had to lean forward to hear him.“This list...”He paused to catch his breath.“It's a list of the heirs.”I stared at him, confused.“The heirs of

André's face turned deathly pale.Lying on the hospital bed, he clutched the sheets between his fingers. His hands were trembling so badly that the fabric had become a wrinkled mess.Clark took a step toward him.“André... what are you talking about?”André kept his eyes closed for a few seconds. He seemed to be weighing every word, as though speaking required the last bit of strength he had left. Finally, he whispered, “The Crown... isn't a piece of jewelry.”Daniel frowned.“Then what is it?”André slowly turned his head toward me.The sadness in his eyes made my heart ache. They were filled with overwhelming exhaustion... and an even deeper pain.“It's the codename for a file.”The silence that followed seemed to swallow the entire room.I blinked, struggling to understand.“A file?”He gave a weak nod.“It contains all the evidence... against those who have been manipulating our families for years.”Clark remained completely still.“Where is it?”A bitter smile touched André's lip

A heavy silence settled over the room, so oppressive that it was almost difficult to breathe. No one could find the words. The name André had just spoken still hung in the air, as though it refused to disappear.Isabella Harrison.Ethan slowly ran a hand over his face. His fingers were trembling.“This isn’t possible…”Clark kept his eyes on him.“You knew her?”Ethan shook his head.“No… never.”He remained silent for a few seconds before continuing in a quieter voice.“My father rarely spoke about her. All he ever said was that she had died very young… in a fire.”André was breathing with difficulty. His chest barely rose, and every word seemed to require an enormous effort.“She… she didn’t die… in that fire…”I immediately moved closer to his bed.Without thinking, a word escaped my lips:“Dad…”I froze myself when I heard the word come out of my mouth.André’s eyes immediately lit up.A faint smile appeared on his tired face.“Thank you…”He closed his eyes for a brief moment, as

Biiiiiiiiip…The continuous sound of the heart monitor shattered the silence in the room.My entire body froze. For several seconds, I was unable to move.“Dad!” a nurse cried.Immediately, the doctors rushed toward André’s bed.“Cardiac arrest!”“Prepare the adrenaline, quickly!”I remained motionless, unable to tear my eyes away.Only a few minutes earlier, this man had revealed that he was my father. And now…He was fighting to stay alive.Clark approached me.He gently placed his hands on my shoulders.“Maria Rose…”His voice was low, filled with concern. But I didn’t answer.I could barely hear what was happening around me.My eyes remained fixed on the doctors desperately trying to save André.“Charge to 200 joules!”The defibrillator was placed against his chest. His body lifted slightly from the electrical shock.I held my breath.“Again!”A second shock went through the room. Then a third.Time seemed to have stopped.Every second was unbearable. Then, suddenly…Beep… Beep… B
