Izan tried to get up, but I grabbed his hand right away.

“What are those wounds?” I asked immediately.

“They're nothing,” Izan said quickly.

“They are something, Izan,” I said with seriousness and concern. “Scars don't bleed just because they do. Let's go get a first aid kit while you explain to me what happened. Did you fight with someone last night?”

Izan looked dismayed and denied.

“I didn't fight with anyone,” Izan said. “You'd better stay here in the room and rest; I'll go get something for the wounds and—”

“I swear to Goddess, if you leave this room without me getting a good look at those damn bleeding scars, we're going to have a problem,” I said so sternly I was surprised.

I always tried to smooth things over, but I hadn't imagined it would bother me so much, and something in my demand must have sunk into Izan, who looked at me seriously.
