In the evening, inside the nightclub, whose multicolored lights scattered across Naomi’s red dress, Naomi and Adam sat on chairs around a table laden with bottles of wine. Beside them sat Yassin and Laila. On the stage in the hall before them, a dance troupe of young women and men performed with sensual yet restrained movements, to the rhythm of music that infused the luxurious venue with elegance and romance.They watched the dancers with visible admiration. Adham was lying on the bed, staring at the ceiling, while Naomi lay beside him asleep. He was thinking, whispering to himself: Tonight we’ll go to the nightclub in the village. A good idea—everyone will agree. I’ll call Yassin and Laila and invite them.Naomi stirred awake, smiled, and looked at Adham.“Good morning.”Adham turned toward her, kissed her on the forehead, and said,“Good morning, my love.”He turned away, reached for his phone on the bedside table, and called Yassin.“Yassin, tonight at ten we’ll meet at the nightclub. Dinner is on me. Tell Laila.”Yassin replied sleepily, “All right, Adham… all right. Please let me sleep. You made me drink a whole crate of wine last night.”Adham laughed softly and said, “Sleep—but don’t forget, ten o’clock.”“All right, see you,” Yassin said.Adham ended the call and set the phone back on the table. Naomi burst into laughter, a peal of carefree mirth, and Adham laughed with her. Then he plunged into the water and began to swim out into the sea, while Naomi and Nelly stood watching him. He swam so far that he nearly disappeared from sight when he reached a point deep and distant from the shore.Nelly said, “Adham seems so elegant in the way he speaks—and he looks like a very skilled swimmer as well.”Naomi replied simply, “Yes.”A few minutes later, Adel stepped out to the window again and stood there, gazing toward the beach. A cup of coffee was in his hand. He murmured to himself,“Night is drawing near… what could they possibly be talking about for all this time? Still, it’s good that Nelly is saying goodbye to her friend before her death. She wished for that.”Down on the shore, Nelly said, “I’m feeling cold, and night is approaching.
