SELENA

I knew something was going wrong.

Selene was acting strangely, as if she were bound in a nightmare and was unable to escape.

All eyes were on us at this point. They all looked at us like we were weird.

Honestly, maybe we were.

I stepped closer to Selene and firmly pulled her in a tight hug.

She struggled. Her hands pushed against my waist. "They tried to hurt Selena. They wanted to kill her. Selena will leave me. She will... die." Her voice broke toward the end, and her body trembled violently.

My chest tightened.

Selene... was traumatized.

Did my escape take so much toll on her?

I bit my lower lip, feeling guilty to the core of my heart.

I tightened my hold on her. "I'm here, Selene. Selena is here." I whispered into her ear.

Her body shuddered, but slowly, she calmed down. "Selena," she called weakly. "Selena?" She seemed to be regaining awareness as her hands held my waist, and she rubbed as if confirming if everything was true.
