NIRELLE

"Nirelle?" I hear Lucien's name at the door, and my heart races. We had spent twenty-four hours on the third floor because I asked. I had tried all day to avoid looking in his eyes because I was scared that even though I was fearful of him touching me, I wanted him to. I take a deep breath, walk to the door and open it.

His hand hangs in the air in a fist as he is about to knock again. "Hi there," I whisper as the scent of his cologne and bath soap fills my nose.

"Can I come in?" He asked, still lingering on the other side of the door. With my hand still holding the other side of the door, I take a step back, and he moves into the room.

"I want to say something important," he said, looking around the room, and I nodded. "Let's sit," he motioned for the couches, moving towards them.

"Oh, okay," I say as I follow him. My mind is blank, but I want to know what he means, so I sit down. He leans forward with his fingers intertwined in each other as he looks directly at me. I try my

Hi, besties. If you felt safe on that couch, that’s on me, and I will be correcting it immediately. In the next chapter someone who doesn’t wait for doors knocks, and someone else lies like it’s a love language. Hydrate. Stretch. Do not blink. Leave a comment, or I’ll feed your favourite character to the plot wolves (Cassian volunteers as tribute). Kisses! Your ever-plotting author, Zera

  • NIRELLE   THE BROTHER I FORGOT

NIRELLELucien left the room after a while and came back up when Zane got to the house. I had not been prepared to see him, and I thought it would take at least a few more weeks before I saw him. He was here now, and it would be extremely weird if I just chose to ignore him while he was around. I had no idea how long he was going to stay at the house, and it felt quite stupid that I would be the one sneaking around."Are you ready?" Lucien asked, and I bit my cheeks. I had been chanting in my head all day, but still I was not sure if I could step in front of him."I have no idea how I am supposed to face him," I reply, and Lucien nods, getting close to me and holding my hands. "I had forgotten all about him, but it seems like he remembered me. It's going to be awkward," he seems to agree. I had expected that he was going to tell me not to worry, that it was going to play out well, but it seemed that my fears were valid because they were real."He would understand," he said. Was he rea

  • NIRELLE    THE PRICE OF KNOWING

LUCIEN"I have been trying to block every outlet, but at the rate Cassian seems to have found a way to override us," Theo said over the line. I feel my heart drop."What are you saying?" I ask not because I do not understand what he means, but because my heart can't bring my mind to understand what he is saying."Lucien, can you listen to me?" He asked and waited for me as if he wanted to be sure that I was with him before he could say anything."Cassian is publishing that the marriage between the Vexley and Thamore families is used to launder money using paper companies and that there is evidence that you are maltreating Nirelle as well," Theo repeated the words.I rose hastily to my feet, with Nirelle mirroring my actions. I feel my free hand clench into a fist by my side as my jaw tightens in annoyance."Lucien?" he called, and I blinked, looking around the room."Theo, can I call you back?" I barely managed to choke out."Lucien?" I heard my name, but it sounded too distant, as th

  • NIRELLE    THE LOSER'S PRIZE

NIRELLEWe somehow managed to make ourselves comfortable on the couch, and Lucien pulled out some board games."My family liked to play this together," he said as he set it in front of me. I stare at it like it is some sort of UFO. "You don't know how to play Snakes and Ladders?" he asked when he noticed my confusion. I look up at him and shake my head."Snakes and ladders?""I will explain the game to you." He settled in beside me and pulled a blanket over my legs. He spent the next ten minutes explaining the game, and according to him, it was supposed to be a simple game, but the more he tried to explain it, the more I could barely understand what he meant."You know what? Let's just play; people learn more by doing," he said in a cute, kind of frustrated way before setting up the game for us. I had to admit that at first I was completely lost on everything going on, and that caused him to somehow cheat."I did not cheat." He shook his head when my accusation came on him strongly."

  • NIRELLE   THE THIRD HALL

NIRELLEThe feeling of a lingering hand underneath my dress jerks me awake, and I scramble, sitting in bed and looking around the room. I don't know why I was suddenly experiencing the nightmares again when I had thoughts that I was getting better."Are you okay?" Lucien's voice is sleepy, and I feel bad for waking him with my madness."Yeah," I try to speak as normally as possible, but I am sure that I sound like a suffocated chicken. I clear my throat, and I hear the lamp click before light illuminates a part of the room."Was it a nightmare?""Every time I close my eyes, I feel his hands on me; I can't shake off the feeling," I confess, because at this point there is no need for me to hide anything from him."What can I do to make it better?" he asked. I look up at him, and his face shows confusion. I can't clearly see his face, but his eyebrows are knitted together, and his mouth is in a pucker as his eyes stay on me. "I wish I knew what I could do to make it better," he adds when

  • NIRELLE   THE EDGE OF RAGE

NIRELLEThe next time I can make sense of my surroundings, I am sitting on Lucien's bed, the room dark with only one dim light coming from a lamp in the distance. The tears seem to be coming to a stop on my end."I am sorry," Lucien says, and I look up at him. I was at the edge of the bed, and he was on his knees right in front of me. Confusion filled his face."Why..." I want to ask more, but I am even lucky that I was able to successfully let one word out."I was afraid that you were going to face your past, and that fear turned to anger, and I couldn't tell why I was angry, and I avoided you when you got back, using Theo as my shield because I did not know how to face you. I did not want my anger to be misplaced on you, and I wanted to stay away until I was able to sort my feelings, but..." He stops himself and runs his hand through his hair aggressively. He moves closer and holds my hand, squeezing it as if it were his only hope. "All of that is an excuse. I was a jerk, an annoyin
