Nora’s POV.
“Shoot her!!!” his harsh, stern and firm voice commanded, making fear grip me. He was seated in an armchair, smoking his hemp and exhaling it in a single puff. His men surrounded him, each heavily armed, as if waiting for a directive to strike.
The 10-year-old me was standing, holding a gun with my little trembling hands, aimed at my own mother. That wasn't my first time holding a gun, as I had practiced with it every day of my life since I was age five. But that was my first time of pointing it at a real being, my mother at that.
“Shoot my mother? How can I?” I thought as my hands continued to tremble, with my eyes fixed on my mum, who was consumed with fear. Her eyes, filled with fear and anxiety, were pleading with mine, begging me not to pull the trigger ……. to save her life.
“Are you deaf? I said to pull the trigger!!!” Dad’s resonating words hit my ears so hard, that the gun fell off my shaky hands.
“I …. I can’t, Daddy” I stammered with my voice trembling, out of fear of the wrath that I was about to face. Hearing those words, his eyes turned red and he steadily got up from where he was seated.
He threw the hemp he was smoking on the floor and stomped on it with his foot. As he took each step towards me, his steps felt heavy and right where I stood, I peed on my body out of fear.
Before I knew it, he closed the gap between us and landed a loud resonating slap, that could make one lose his hearing on my cheek. The pain I got from the slap circulated through my body, making my knees weak. I fell to the ground, unable to maintain my stand, my palm on my cheek that hurt.
“Did you just go against my order? Did you just say NO to me, bitch? Huh?” he yelled angrily, as he stomped on me repeatedly with his feet. Each kick was like a blade, piercing through my skin. I was hurting, groaning in pain but my father failed to see that.
He continued to kick me until he was satisfied, with my mum pleading for him to stop, wanting to come in between us, but was restrained by his guards who kept her from moving an inch.
“James, please. Please, let go of her. She is hurting. I am the one who offended you. Please, hit me instead” Mum sobbed, repeatedly begging for him to stop. But all her pleas fell on his deaf ears.
After minutes of trashing me up, he finally stopped. Him stopping made me realize how badly I was injured. The pain which was meant to reduce after he stopped, only intensified, making me wallow in pain.
I tried lifting my hands but I couldn’t. My belly hurt and so did other parts of my body. I was covered in bruises and blood came out of my mouth as I coughed. The pain was excruciating, and I had thought that was my last day on Earth, but miraculously, I survived.
“I should let her go? I should hit you instead? HELL NO!!! The punishment for what you did is greater than getting bashed up. How dare you cheat on me with this thing?” he annoyingly asked, pointing in the direction of his right-hand man, who had been shot dead by him.
The betrayal he got from mum was consuming him, which was quite evident in his eyes.
He found out mum was cheating on him with one of his men, who happened to be his right-hand man. He couldn’t forgive their betrayal as he had always told me forgiveness was a weakness; a weakness that could get one trampled over.
“How could you? You ridiculed me, you tarnished my image!! The punishment for your sin is death, and you will surely get that right now; at this moment” he firmly said, his voice resonating another wave of fear in Mum.
Mum’s lips trembled, as if she was trying to say some words, but the words never left her throat.
“Get up, idiot. Get up and do what I told you to do” he yelled at me, urging me to get to my feet. But I couldn’t, as I was too weak to move.
“You don’t want to, right? You love this your prostitute of a mother that much? " Then, it’s better you both die together!!!!” he said, his voice unwavering, which showed he meant what he had said. Pulling out his gun from his back pocket, he aimed it at me, ready to pull the trigger.
Sensing the danger, mum yelled, forcing her way through his guards, to where I was lying and where he was.
“James please. Please, don’t. Don’t kill our daughter. Kill me instead, take my life” she desperately pleaded, as she knelt in front of dad, sobbing profusely.
“Then, if you do not want her to die, tell her to get up and do what I instructed her to do. That’s the only way she can live”, he responded, his voice devoid of empathy.
As his wife who had known him for more than 13 years, Mum knew what he had said was the only way to save me. It’s either she dies or we both die. So, she moved to me, held my hand in hers and said:
“My love, I want you to know that I love you and will forever do. Even though I will not be here with you physically, I will forever be with you in spirit, watching over you. I do not wish to leave you now, but there is nothing I can do as this is the only way to save us. I love you, baby girl. Do take care and stay strong” she said softly to me, as she kissed my forehead, with tears rolling down her cheeks.
Picking up the gun which I had dropped earlier, she placed it in my hand, cupping my fingers around it. I knew what she was trying to do ……. I tried resisting, tried stopping her, but I couldn’t as I was too weak to even lift my hands. My eyes pleaded with her not to but her eyes instead showed that her mind was made up.
I shook my head, hot tears rolling down my cheeks, softly whispering the words “Mom, don’t” to her, but she only smiled at me. She laid beside me, held my hand which the gun was in and aimed it at her forehead.
With the words ‘Goodbye, Mon Amour” leaving her mouth, she pulled the trigger and what I saw next was the blood of my mother, splashing on my face.
That night, she sacrificed her life to save mine, but I wished I had suffered the same fate as hers. Because, the coldness of her loss haunted me forever.
Five Years LaterLunaria's POV I was dressed in a black gown with a bouquet of fresh roses held in my hands. I stood in front of his tomb, feeling lost and empty. It had been 5 years since he died, but I still hadn't gotten over his death. When he had died, I didn't really care, but now that I realized I wouldn't be able to see him again, I began having the desire to have myself wrapped in his arms once again. I missed him so much- I sincerely did. If someone had told me my life would be so empty without him in it, I would have argued blindly. That man was my everything and I didn't even know. He was my knight in shining armor, my protector, my lover and father. He had shown me love, but I didn't even reciprocate the feeling till he died. I should have saved him then- should have tried my best to make sure he survived. And when he told me he loved me, I shouldn't have doubted him- should have just told him I loved him too. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I gently placed the flow
Lunaria's POV“You have been the one…. all along?” My voice shook as I rose to my feet. “Yes, my child. It has been me,” he responded with levity as if his obsession for power hadn't done more harm than good in my life. “Don't call me that!!” I screamed at him. “I'm not your child. If you ever considered me as your child, you wouldn't have hurt me back then and you wouldn't still be thinking of hurting my grandson!!”“You justified all your actions and inactions on the fact that your father hated you…. chose your brother over you. Maybe the old man was wise enough to know you would turn out this way, that's why he didn't choose you to be his successor,” I lashed at him. “Do you know how many people you have killed all because of your thirst for power? Do you know how much pain you have caused me? You took my daughter away from me, sent her to kill me and you have the audacity to stand there and call yourself my father?” I asked, my heart gripped with pain as my eyes welled up with
Lunaria’s POV “I’m sorry, my baby. I didn’t mean to do everything I did. I was forced to. I had no other option,” Ravyna sincerely begged, with tears streaming down from her eyes. I became instantly speechless. That woman who sat in front of me ...... went through all of that? My lips trembled, but no words came out. My eyes bore into hers and all the hatred I had once felt towards her, vanished, only to be replaced by ache and sympathy. And my father, he did all that just so I could protect myself and save myself from that villain? While my father was slowly building me to stand on my own, I thought he hated me just like he hated my mother. Without knowing the truth, I silently cursed my father every blessed day. Those curses weren’t supposed to be directed at my father, but at that man who ruined it all. The monster who tore away Ravyna’s happiness. The one who didn’t hesitate before killing his child just to fulfil whatever plans he had. Who was he? Why was he so
Omniscient POV Many years ago, Ravyna was just an orphan who worked at a club to make ends meet. Her life was simple. She had no friends and all she did every day was go to work and go back home. Her life was simple until she met that man. The man had visited her club that day and immediately he saw her, he showed interest in her. At first, Ravyna was reluctant about accepting his proposal, but eventually, she did. He showed her love which she had never experienced from her childhood till she grew up. Being a rich man, he spoiled her with money and could easily get everything she needed at her disposal. To cut the long story short, they both got married and they were living happily together. In the space of ten years, they had three children- two girls and a boy. Ravyna had thought her life had changed for good and she would never know sadness again. That was her belief until one day. Her husband had sat her down after dinner that night to have a serious and very important c
Selene/Lunaria’s POV Vanessa, who both Liam and Mum told me they had no idea of her whereabouts, was casually strolling into their mansion, as if that was where she belonged. Lies upon lies. Just when I thought I was getting over the revelation of the day before, another secret struck me hard like lightning again. Though my life with my father was hard, since I left his roof, life just kept getting harder for me. At that moment, I wished I hadn’t run away from my father's roof. “Maybe if I had continued to be the obedient Mafia Queen, who cleaned up her father’s mess...... just maybe my life would have turned out better,” I thought as I sat in the car, with my eyes moistened with tears. Life was really unpredictable. The same man I had broken our gang rule for, the same man I had gone against my father for, was the same one who violated my daughter and was inside of that mansion, plotting against me. Why did everyone around me keep betraying my trust in them? Vanessa-
Lunaria's POVThe following day, I went to get a new phone, which was meant for chatting Drevyn and mum up privately. If there was any information Drevyn needed to pass across to me, he knew what he was to do. If I was at home, he was to send a text, but if I wasn't at home, he could call me. That was the rule.Days flew by and no tangible information was gotten from Marlik’s phone. He seemed to have another phone- just like me, which he used in getting in touch with Ravyna when the need arose. We were about giving up on Marlik and looking for another alternative when luck found us. That day, Marlik happened to have gone to Ravyna's house and his phone that had been bugged was taken along with him. Hence, we could hear all he discussed with Ravyna. Luckily for us that day, I was at Drevyn's place when the incident happened and we all- including mum, listened to the conversation together.“Greetings, Serenya,” Marlik's voice rang. “Greetings, Marlik,” I heard my mum's voice respo
