LOGINJanus
My skull feels like it’s splitting open, that same restless pull clawing through me again, since I marked my mate and she disappeared, the bond has been threatening to rip my heart out of my chest. I can’t think. I can’t breathe. I have told them I do not want to see anyone in my room until I request their presence. Why the hell is a maid here and serving me food and medicine? I didn't wait for her to explain herself. The pain of being separated from my mate leaves me irritable every day. The maid in front of me screams as the bullet from my gun hits the wall behind her, missing her head by just an inch. “Janus!” My beta, Sager, yells from the door, rushing toward her. The loud bang of the gun, her scream, and his voice all crash into my head at once. I throw my head back, resting against the couch, the gun still in my hand, my glass of whiskey in the other. “What the hell do you think you are doing?” He snaps. “Maybe you don't care about cleaning up blood and bodies, but it takes a fucking toll on me.” “Damn it…” I groan. “Lower your voice, will you?” “You also need to understand that right now, nobody is willing to accept this high-paying job anymore. This is the last maid. Unless… you want to start cleaning the floors yourself.” My eyes snap open, and I shoot him a glare, but he doesn’t back down. Asshole. I'm his Alpha, but right now I know he's speaking as my best friend. But hell… everything inside me feels like it’s being torn apart. “Get her and that tray of food and medicine out of my sight, or I won't miss next time.” I growl. He turns sharply to the girl. “I told you to stay there until I say so.” “Th..the Grand Luna ordered that I bring the food and medication to Alpha.” Her body shakes, her teeth catching her lower lip. He finally sends her away with the tray. “Janus, I understand how you feel—” I cut him off before he can continue. “You don't understand shit, Sager. What do you understand, huh? Is it the way I feel the pull of a mate, but it cuts off halfway? I can't trace her. I feel like I'm dying. I can't sleep, yet staying awake is hell. And you say you understand?” He exhales, dragging a hand down his face before letting it rest on his waist, frustration tightening his expression. “I'm sorry… just give me a little more time to find her. Since you said she wasn’t a maid, then she must have been one of the guests. But without knowing what she looks like… it’s a dead end.” It’s been two hellish months since that night in Sherwood Pack. By the time I realized something had been laced in my drink, it was already too late. And it wasn’t poison. If it was, Laycon, my wolf, would have sensed it. I woke up with no memory of her face, only that she wore a short red dress… and that I mated and marked her. She only left that emerald ring. Why did she leave? Did she find out about my identity and my engagement? I was going to cancel the engagement with Risa Sherwood from the beginning, but the truth is I couldn’t completely stop it. It’s a long-standing agreement between our packs that the heirs will marry. And refusing my mother, the Grand Luna’s request, would only earn me a long lecture. So I planned to agree to it first, and once I found my mate, I would reject the engagement through the mate bond. I only want to be with my mate. But then… this happened. I marked my mate, but I lost her trail. I told Sager not to say a word about it. I don’t want anyone trying to impersonate her when I can’t even recall a single damn thing about her. Especially the current daughter of Alpha Sherwood… Risa… She is not the kind of woman I want as my Luna. A snake. Smart… yes. But underneath, she hides something far more dangerous. If she ever found out about this, I’m afraid of what she might do. I told her father to delay things until I return, without giving any reason or telling them what happened. If they could lace my drink with a rut inducer, I don’t trust what they could do with information like this. I sigh, setting the glass down on the table, the gun following beside it. “Maybe find a witch,” I mutter. “Someone who can trace my mate's bond… find the other end that feels faded. It’s not completely cut… it just feels like it’s not there.” I raise my head to look at Sager, who has sunk into the couch beside me. “Well, you have to fix your state of mind for the time being, and act as better as you can. Risa Sherwood has been invited to the pack house by the Grand-Luna.” Hell, no… My mother didn't seriously invite the one woman I have no interest in seeing at all right now. I hiss, my brows pulling together. Sager gives me a mocking grin before a knock comes at the door, and Sager turns toward it. From the single knock, it’s a guard. “What is it?” he calls. The guard steps in, shutting the door gently behind him. “Apologies, Beta Sager, but the maid who was hired a week ago seems to have dropped her uniform and run away.” He reports. Sager’s gaze flicks to me for a second before returning to the guard. “Are you sure? She could be bathing.” “I’m very certain, Beta. Her room is completely empty. She left no trace.” Sager doesn’t respond immediately, he just nods slightly. “Where am I supposed to get another maid, Janus? How many has it been in the past few weeks? This one lasted over a week, but your temper had to ruin it.” “There are rogues looking for a pack to belong to. Offer them more money if you must.” I reply, my voice flat. Sager grits his teeth, his hand clenching hard on the armrest. “Damn it… not again.” he mutters. “But the new recruits you asked for a week ago arrived in the pack already, we will begin screening immediately if you wish, Alpha.” The guard says. “That's a relief then,’’ Sager breathes and gestures to the guard to leave. “I'll send a new maid tonight.” He says and I don't bother responding. I don’t care about the maid, but saying that would only make Sager angry and start his nagging again. This fucking migraine is already enough to deal with. How long am I supposed to endure it? I have to find that girl, I need to find my mate.Janus"We need to move the ceremony to next week, Janus," Risa says, leaning over my desk while tapping her painted nails against the wood. I have been working non-stop trying to get a lot of shit working in the pack and this mating ceremony is the last thing I want to think about."The elders are restless, and the pack needs to see our power balance is secured." She continues when I don't respond.I don't look up from my ledger, my jaw clenched so hard a muscle twitches in my cheek. "The date stays where it is, Risa.""Are you forgetting what my family brings to your borders?" she presses, that fake sweet tone slipping away. "You need this alliance.""Risa, I've got a lot of things to do and we shouldn't be discussing this." I growl out, my voice dropping dangerously low.She flinches, her lips tightening into a thin line before she turns on her heel and stomps out of my study, slamming the door behind her.I let out a rough breath, rubbing my face with both hands as the familiar, b
ArleyRisa lets out a cold, shrill sound. Her laughter echoing in the balcony. "I knew it. I knew it was you, Arley. You’re pathetic."“Oh, you're so stupid Arley.” She drags as she leans closer, her hands dramatically hooked on her waists, smiling with her upper teeth.Shit! It's all over…it's really over.I squeeze my hand so tight until I feel the sting from my nails. I can't let her see how much she is getting under my skin.“I have no connection with you, Risa Sherwood… I am Kydra, a rogue maid and personal servant to Alpha Janus Beyhos.” I manage to grit out, shooting her a challenging glare. If she thinks I will cower, or kneel, crawl and beg her, she's getting the wrong idea in her head.I turn to leave without waiting for any more of her nonsense. But her words bury my feet in the ground.“What do you think will happen if Janus finds out his PERSONAL MAID is in fact a liar and a betrayal?”I hear my heart slam against the back of my chest. I understand exactly where she is ge
ArleyI stand in front of the stone frozen in place, my legs feel like they are buried into the ground. I can't move my hand. No… My body is trying not to attempt it because I know it will be the end for me the moment that stone glows.“What is it, Kydra?” Risa's voice slurs, making me flinch suddenly. “Not so bold to touch the stone? I thought you swore loyalty to Alpha Janus?” A grin drags her lips. Their red color mocking me.I look up and my gaze falls on Janus’ unreadable expression. His eyes planted on me. His jaws are clenched hard.I can't even dare to glance at Jane, she's my only last dice in this game Risa is playing. I take a deep breath, and step forward… stretching my hands, my eyes shut tight… my heart already racing, expecting the murmur that will disrupt the current silence in the hall the moment the stone glows.I finally feel the cold sensation of the stone, waiting for Risa's mocking voice…but it doesn't come, the entire place is still quiet. I open my eyes to see
ArleyGetting to the maid quarters as instructed, the other maids are all lining up in the hallway with their hands clenched tight…some of them trembling.“What’s the matter now?” I whisper to one of them standing beside the wall. She looks up at me immediately, her expression filled with both fear and confusion.“There’s a maid inspection,” she breathes out quietly. “They’re searching everyone’s bags.”My stomach tightens instantly.“What?”She nods quickly before glancing nervously toward the end of the hallway. “Lady Risa said a valuable ring is missing. The chief maid is helping her search every room.”Another maid behind her scoffs softly under her breath. “This kind of thing has never happened before. She’s not even Luna yet but look at the drama she’s already bringing.”“Shh!” somebody hisses immediately. My fist clenches tightly at my side.My fist clenches hard at my side, is Risa suspecting anything? If they search my bag—I grind my teeth at the tension suddenly rushing thro
Risa "That little witch!""How come she continues to spoil my plan? Every single one of them."Pacing back and forth in my room is still not calming my nerves at all. I need to get that bitch away from Janus and away from this pack. The only way I can achieve my plan is to make sure Janus is not distracted one bit. I have managed to throw that bitch away but it feels like she's crawled back, even though the maid Kydra looks nothing like Arley, the attitude and how she always becomes a problem is the same."Stupid, useless girl," I hiss to myself, slamming my fist right down onto the surface of my dressing table. The perfume bottles rattle loudly against the glass, and one small crystal vial tips over, spilling its sweet scent across the wood. I don't even care to pick it up as I stare hard into the mirror, my chest heaving up and down while my knuckles turn completely white.I can still see the calm look on her face back in the clinic while she was handling the herbs, behaving like
JanusThe pack falling back into normalcy makes me feel relieved, I can't imagine what kind of war could have started between Oakwood and Beyhos…that would mean losing a very valuable relationship. All thanks to Kydra. Still…I feel like shit inside, I was so worked up that I need to spar to let off this damn feeling in my chest.I tighten my grip around the wooden training sword before slamming it hard against Vantas’ blade again. The loud crack echoes across the training ground immediately.Vantas curses under his breath from the impact before narrowing his eyes at me. “Are you trying to train or kill somebody today?”“I’m training.”“That doesn’t look like training.”I ignore him completely before attacking again. My muscles ache from days of pushing myself too hard trying to regain full strength after the rogue attack, but somehow the idea that Kydra might have a reason to leave Beyhos pack suddenly feels unsettling…I felt a tightening in my guts when Henderson mentioned it and hi
