Arley
Tonight was supposed to be my engagement night. Instead, my stepsister Risa took my place beside the Alpha I was meant to marry. And I’m being sold to an old Beta in exchange for a portion of his pack’s treasury. If I walk out of this room, my father will kill me. If I stay… I’m not even sure I’ll survive this man. Anyway now, here I am, meeting my so-called husband for the first time. Sparse gray hair clings to his scalp, and his wrinkled, cold hands lazily trail along my arm. My back stiffens at his touch. My glass has been empty for minutes, leaving me to endure this torment with a painfully clear mind. Or so I thought. A faint fog begins to creep into my head. My body heats up, suddenly hypersensitive to every brush of his hand. The heavy music from the hall above echoes in my ears. Risa must be happy right now, her pretty smile curving along her lips as she meets the man of her dreams—more importantly, the man who was supposed to be my fiancé, the very reason my father hosted the Moon Gala in our pack. Alpha Janus Beyhos. The youngest, wealthiest, and every woman's dream man... except I have never laid my eyes on him. But that's what they say. How could my father do all that for Risa, while I'm tossed to a creepy freaking old Beta from a distant pack? I have dreams too, but whatever I wanted has never mattered to my family. Sometimes I wonder if I am just a stray my family picked up one day. After my mother passed when I was six, the loving father who used to throw me up in the sky and catch me with the brightest smile disappeared. I was no longer his little princess, and one day he came back home with a blonde-haired woman and a little girl three years younger than me. They looked like the perfect family, even as the Alpha's first daughter… I was treated as a mere maid, locked away with no food sometimes if I dared to rebel. I have always been restricted in my movements until tonight. I raise my head to stare at the roof as if I will see just how much Risa is shining in there, ignoring the faint voice of Beta Vinton slurring in my head. “Tomorrow, we will be going back together,” Vinton whispers, leaning forward… his lips pressing a gentle kiss on my cheek. Ugh… I hate this feeling, the heat between my legs won't stop. I squeeze the glass too tight and it shatters… a shard cutting through my palm, but I feel it heal almost immediately. No, what… what’s happening to me? I try to keep my eyes open as my body heats up, his cold hand brushes my thighs, slipping slightly between my legs. “Hngh..” I let out a weak groan. “You're so sensitive… your scent is so alluring, and you look so beautiful.” Vinton closes the distance between us, raising the too-skimpy red dress Risa's mother forced me into. My muscles won't move, I borrow Kydra, my wolf's strength… pushing him hard, he flies from the chair, his back hitting the brick wall behind him. “Fuck, you wench,” he growls, his eyes flashing red, anger twisting his old wrinkled forehead. “S..stay away from me,” I manage to scream, but it comes out as a whispered breath. My body trembles from the heat rushing through me. “Right…” he drags his body off the floor, his hand rubbing the back of his head. “This was why Mrs. Sherwood suggested we give you some of those heat inducers, but how are you still so strong and awake?” he murmurs. My heart drops to my stomach. So, it was their plan all the while… my… my drink was laced with heat inducers? The realization washes over me, my eyes widening. Shit, I need to leave this room. I push off the chair before he can take a step… my hand desperately reaching for the door handle. I twist hard, but it won't budge. Dear goddess… please… open. Damn it! “Oh, don't bother,” he grins, taking slow, calculated steps forward. “I have the keys, you can't go anywhere… Arley.” He slips his hand into his pocket, pulling out the single key… my only escape held tight between his fingers. Hope completely disappears. But I won't give him the satisfaction, as he steps closer… my leg hits his chest, the key falls from his hand. I can't feel Kydra, she's panting weakly… I manage the last of my strength, rushing to the key and quickly inserting it into the hole, my hold on it tight, trying to prevent myself from letting go even though my hands are shaking so badly. I don't bother to turn to see if Vinton has gotten up. I bolt out the door. The freezing night air brushes against my skin, yet it doesn't calm the heat. My breath coils into the air as I gasp for air, breathing heavily, not caring where I go. I need to hide from them… all of them until the effects of the drug wear off. Tall trees loom around me, their branches snagging at my dress as I run. My leg catches on something and I stumble, crashing hard into the ground. I try to get up, but my bones feel like melted rubber. “Kydra?” I try to summon my wolf even though I know she won't respond. She's been weak… not just weak, she's in the last stage of disappearing. After years of suppression by my family, she's been slowly fading away, and I just used up the last bit of strength she had. My hands slip through my pants, my middle finger brushing lightly against my clit. A soft whimper escapes my mouth, my breathing too shallow. It throbs, a needy ache that won't go away. “Oh look at you,” Vinton’s familiar voice comes from behind me, “...did you really think a wench like you could run from me when I could smell your lust trailing after you?” He grabs my hand tightly, squeezing so hard the pain shoots through my bone. Suddenly, I feel an overwhelming, powerful aura loom over the woods, the night air suddenly suffocating. Followed by a sweet mix of leather and heated musk. My breath catches. “You dared to touch her?” The voice rumbles through the night even though I can't tell who it is. I can feel Beta Vinton's fear seeping out of him, the man who had towered over me seconds ago is shaking now. “What is this? There's a powerful rogue here?” Vinton mutters. Before I know it, he drops my hand quickly, pivoting and bolting back towards the pack house. Leaving me there, my body trembling. Soon, the silhouette drags closer… Who is it? Is it a rogue but why is the sweet scent coming from him? I have never prayed this desperately, but soon the person's groans muffle out, he sounds like he's in so much pain too. His hair falls roughly on his face. His footsteps falter, is he drunk? He finally closes the distance between us, the smell from earlier clinging to him, as if drawn to each other — “Mate,” he growls, the vibration in his voice sending heated waves between my legs. This feeling, I can’t understand it… before I know it, he lunges into me, my back hitting the tree as he grabs my wrists and pins them above my head, leaning into my nape.ArleyI could have sworn I saw Risa stomping out of Janus' study last night as I was walking in after the guards summoned me.And since the heart-wrenching kiss with Janus… I feel my face heat up again at the thought of it and immediately cover my face with the book I am reading on my bunk.Damn, Arley... how can you be feeling this way for a man you know very well will never be yours? There are major reasons. One, Risa and Father will kill me. Two... I have a mate and I need to find him. Maybe I have to search through every rogue camp the moment I leave the Beyhos pack.Just then, Jane's voice cuts through my wild imagination."Ar... ughh Kydra?" she groans as soon as she steps into the maids' room.I jump up immediately before realizing it is her. "Jane? What is it?""Oh, Lady Risa requested you. Goddess, she's really such a bitch... how can such a person be related to an angel like you?" she murmurs.Lately, Risa's moods and temper have been all over the place, so her maids have be
Janus"We need to move the ceremony to next week, Janus," Risa says, leaning over my desk while tapping her painted nails against the wood. I have been working non-stop trying to get a lot of shit working in the pack and this mating ceremony is the last thing I want to think about."The elders are restless, and the pack needs to see our power balance is secured." She continues when I don't respond.I don't look up from my ledger, my jaw clenched so hard a muscle twitches in my cheek. "The date stays where it is, Risa.""Are you forgetting what my family brings to your borders?" she presses, that fake sweet tone slipping away. "You need this alliance.""Risa, I've got a lot of things to do and we shouldn't be discussing this." I growl out, my voice dropping dangerously low.She flinches, her lips tightening into a thin line before she turns on her heel and stomps out of my study, slamming the door behind her.I let out a rough breath, rubbing my face with both hands as the familiar, b
ArleyRisa lets out a cold, shrill sound. Her laughter echoing in the balcony. "I knew it. I knew it was you, Arley. You’re pathetic."“Oh, you're so stupid Arley.” She drags as she leans closer, her hands dramatically hooked on her waists, smiling with her upper teeth.Shit! It's all over…it's really over.I squeeze my hand so tight until I feel the sting from my nails. I can't let her see how much she is getting under my skin.“I have no connection with you, Risa Sherwood… I am Kydra, a rogue maid and personal servant to Alpha Janus Beyhos.” I manage to grit out, shooting her a challenging glare. If she thinks I will cower, or kneel, crawl and beg her, she's getting the wrong idea in her head.I turn to leave without waiting for any more of her nonsense. But her words bury my feet in the ground.“What do you think will happen if Janus finds out his PERSONAL MAID is in fact a liar and a betrayal?”I hear my heart slam against the back of my chest. I understand exactly where she is ge
ArleyI stand in front of the stone frozen in place, my legs feel like they are buried into the ground. I can't move my hand. No… My body is trying not to attempt it because I know it will be the end for me the moment that stone glows.“What is it, Kydra?” Risa's voice slurs, making me flinch suddenly. “Not so bold to touch the stone? I thought you swore loyalty to Alpha Janus?” A grin drags her lips. Their red color mocking me.I look up and my gaze falls on Janus’ unreadable expression. His eyes planted on me. His jaws are clenched hard.I can't even dare to glance at Jane, she's my only last dice in this game Risa is playing. I take a deep breath, and step forward… stretching my hands, my eyes shut tight… my heart already racing, expecting the murmur that will disrupt the current silence in the hall the moment the stone glows.I finally feel the cold sensation of the stone, waiting for Risa's mocking voice…but it doesn't come, the entire place is still quiet. I open my eyes to see
ArleyGetting to the maid quarters as instructed, the other maids are all lining up in the hallway with their hands clenched tight…some of them trembling.“What’s the matter now?” I whisper to one of them standing beside the wall. She looks up at me immediately, her expression filled with both fear and confusion.“There’s a maid inspection,” she breathes out quietly. “They’re searching everyone’s bags.”My stomach tightens instantly.“What?”She nods quickly before glancing nervously toward the end of the hallway. “Lady Risa said a valuable ring is missing. The chief maid is helping her search every room.”Another maid behind her scoffs softly under her breath. “This kind of thing has never happened before. She’s not even Luna yet but look at the drama she’s already bringing.”“Shh!” somebody hisses immediately. My fist clenches tightly at my side.My fist clenches hard at my side, is Risa suspecting anything? If they search my bag—I grind my teeth at the tension suddenly rushing thro
Risa "That little witch!""How come she continues to spoil my plan? Every single one of them."Pacing back and forth in my room is still not calming my nerves at all. I need to get that bitch away from Janus and away from this pack. The only way I can achieve my plan is to make sure Janus is not distracted one bit. I have managed to throw that bitch away but it feels like she's crawled back, even though the maid Kydra looks nothing like Arley, the attitude and how she always becomes a problem is the same."Stupid, useless girl," I hiss to myself, slamming my fist right down onto the surface of my dressing table. The perfume bottles rattle loudly against the glass, and one small crystal vial tips over, spilling its sweet scent across the wood. I don't even care to pick it up as I stare hard into the mirror, my chest heaving up and down while my knuckles turn completely white.I can still see the calm look on her face back in the clinic while she was handling the herbs, behaving like
