I felt better than I had in days, maybe even weeks or months, as the case may be. The ecstatic feeling was accompanied by a majestic massage on my hips. My eyes tore open, scanning for the intruder behind those wonderful touches.
It was Alaric, my hero. Just then, memories from the past night began flooding in, making my cheeks turn red. Ric had shown up at my apartment yesterday to check up on me. I enjoyed every moment with him. Yes! This was the boy I knew, the boy from my childhood days, he was back to life! I placed my head on his chest, and it felt really good. I quickly wrapped my arms around him, wishing to never let go. He smelled like pineapples and everything sweet in the world. "Looks like someone had a great night," he mouthed to me. And in the next moment, he was trailing my neck with kisses, making me turn red. "How long have you been awake?" I said, rolling away from him. Unfortunately, the bed wasn't big enough, so I fell butt flat on the hard floor, causing him to bark out laughter. I huffed with pride, slapping his helping hands away. I leaned against the stool beside me, trying to get a hold of myself. The aftermath of last night dawned on me as I could barely walk. Ric looked at me tenderly, placing me on top of the bed again. His golden brown hair fell across his face as he leaned in to kiss me. "I missed this." He said, his hands sliding under the new shirt I didn't remember putting on. I softly pushed him away with a pout. I already had enough from last night, and all I wanted to do was to sleep some more and more. Ric left the room soon after and returned with a cup of coffee and pancakes. How he figured out my apartment remained a mystery, and I chose not to bother myself with it. I was endlessly scrolling on my social media handles as I ate slowly. People really were wolves! In less than twenty-four hours, I had gone from the world's most hated whore, to the pretty unfortunate princess. Apology letters, encouraging texts and praises kept popping in. I dropped my phone with a sigh and looked over at Ric, who was engrossed in his laptop. "M-mm,” I cleared my throat, seeking attention. “I think I'm ready to go to work now," I said, dropping my cleared plate. Ric glanced at me and shook his head, like he was looking at some 4 year old. "What is it?" I asked, ready to snap at him if I got even the slightest sarcastic comment. "You're still weak. You look thin and pale," he said bluntly, his eyes still fixed on his laptop. It was then that I had the chance to take a very good look at him. His muscles flexed from the compressor shirt he had worn, which looked like it was glued to his body. He looked attractive, but I shook off the silly thoughts that crowded my head. "But what about the clients?” I asked, running my hands through my hair. He was mute, a sharp smirk playing on his face. "Not fair, the boss would get mad," I said under my breath, my tone laced with concern. "He won't!” He turned towards me, looking really assured. “Plus, he even gave you an early summer leave," he concluded, his grin playing in full. "Why are you smiling ?" I asked, having a bad feeling about the whole thing. "Spend summer with me?" He asked, not an order this time, but a request. I was surprised. No, I was confused instead. What if all these were one of his silly tricks, and I've been a clown all along? The Alaric I knew was stubborn and arrogant. I found it hard to believe that he'd be this sweet without having some tricks up his sleeve. Although he was working in my company as my co-worker, Ric was quite rich, which made me even more annoyed during our feud at the office. He never tried to show it, but his aura and aloof nature exposed him most of the time, and it made others afraid to approach him, except Steve, of course. But Steve was like a honey badger. He was chill with everything and everyone; content with being unnoticed, never involved in any of the workplace drama that usually went on. "Why?" I mouthed to him. In an instant, his eyes lost their sparks, and I wished I had never made that comment. I knew I couldn't take it back either. I had loved Ric very much in high school; years had passed, and things were different now. Though he stood up for me against Michael and made sure I was safe, I wondered if he still felt the same for me, truly, or if he was just living in the moment. However, his voice rang in my ears again, waking me up from my daydream. "I want us to reconnect." God knew all the thoughts that crossed my mind as I stared at his beautiful face. A face that no one could say no to. "No," I said coldly as I struggled to stand up. He looked confused for a second, like he was sure I was going to say yes just then. The air fell silent. "Why?" He asked, his voice low and cold. I avoided his gaze, knowing my eyes would let me down. "Ric last night was fun, and I'm really hoping we could be close after that. But, I think I need some time to sort out my life first.” I paused, collecting my words carefully before continuing so as not to cause more damage. “The scandal, Michael, my reputation… I have a lot going on right now. " I said, brushing past him. I wrapped my arms around his, offering as much comfort as I could. He sneered. "I don't get it, Nancy, do you not like me?"NANCY'S POV I woke up feeling unnecessarily lazy. I had expected to find Alaric by my side but he wasn't there, although the bed still reeked of his warmth making me smile stupidly. There was a note on the dresser saying,"Went out for a jog, breakfast is in the kitchen." At the thought of breakfast, my stomach made a really loud noise as if it had problems. I was thankful that he really wasn't here. I said a short prayer, hoping that nothing bad like last time would happen. Everything felt perfect, until my mind drifted towards what Alaric had said last night."Go to a party with me."How was I supposed to refuse him? He looked really expectant and it made me feel guilty. But, if you think I'm a clutz then you haven't seen me at parties. It feels like my bad luck increases by a 100%. One time, when the company's boss threw a birthday party for himself; first of all, I showed up dressed like a dinosaur, thinking it was a costume party and my tail bummed into the cake. Ric never let me
ALARIC'S POV I turned and tossed on the large bed, opening and closing the window every now and then but I couldn't fall asleep. I just wanted to hold Nancy in my arms.My grandmother had called me with an unknown number earlier and told me that she had arrived in the continent."Did you block me?? I've been trying to reach you for months, Alaric. You had me worried sick," she complained from over the phone. "No, I didn't, Granny, I didn't get your call," I lied. Long story short, she was on her way here to make my life simply miserable. I groaned at the thought of that.My grandmother wasn't a bad person, at least not anymore. Former mistress of Reginald Wealth who rose to the position of his wife after she sent his original wife practically running. She was nicknamed the Asian tiger in her day because of her shrewdness in the financial industry and her cunningness as well. She raised all her children to be disciplined and as cunning as her but unfortunately most of them died due
NANCY'S POV I found out that the Asian man didn't have Alaric 's contact or even his address. But I learned that his name was Eren, which should be a victory but it wasn't. He was really nice and since I had nothing better to do, I followed him everywhere he went. I even went to chat with the receptionist but she was colder than an iceberg. The building contained multiple high end apartments that looked like mansions on one floor, few people came by and went barely sparing me a glance.I got bored of Eren as he attended to the residents and decided to head back to the penthouse. I thought about going home or to the library, but aside the fact that I was obviously too lazy, I was a bit wary since Ric told me about Michael breaking into my apartment. I chatted Raya, while I took a sip in the Indoor Jacuzzi and after that, I just stood by the glass wall, staring at the clouds that were decorated in all streaks of pink and orange. It was beautiful, truly but I felt empty inside as I reco
I took off after I had dropped Nancy off at the penthouse I'd rented a day before. I was really angry, and I had to find myself a bar to cool off. It was already too late so I couldn't call Steve. Halfway drowned in alcohol, I heard a strange voice behind me. "Long time no see, Alaric." I only turned my head slightly, gazing at a man with short black hair and black eyes. He appeared with a woman who was dressed like a stripper. She looked lustfully at me like she had other plans for me, but I didn't pay her any mind."Do I know you?" I asked as I was not in the mood for any nonsense. I was already pissed off, but I kept my cool nevertheless."Don't you dare do that!" The man commanded. "Don't you dare pretend like you don't remember me. I know you remember every single detail." I raised an eyebrow at him, not even understanding the angle he was coming from. He gave the bartender quick signs, and he quickly arrived with a bottle of wine."You thought you could ruin my life, ey Ric?"
(NANCY'S POV)I felt sour as I looked towards Alaric. I thought about apologizing, but I felt like it wasn't the right time. He surely hated me at that point. He had helped me with Michael, and I hadn't even given him so much as a thank you. After what felt like an eternity, he pulled up in front of a really fancy building, allowing me to look around. I hadn't even noticed when we had entered the neighborhood. It was so quiet and had few people walking around, unlike my usually busy neighborhood. I looked towards Alaric questioningly, but his face was expressionless. I immediately took it as my cue to get out."There's a penthouse on the top floor, and all you'll need will be there. If there's anything you can call the receptionist," he instructed as I alighted. He sped off as soon as my feet touched the floor. I stumbled back a few steps due to the dust, blinking in surprise. Yeah, I guess I dug that pit myself. A tall Asian looking man was standing by the door."You must be Miss
Days passed by, and the office was boring as usual. To add to it, there had been no sign of Nancy since then. On a fateful day, after I had parted ways with Steve, I felt particularly good, my hands on the steering wheel and the song Reckless Love by Cory Asbury playing on the radio. I wasn't particularly fond of this kind of music, but it seemed like Clumsy was obsessed with it, so I decided to give it a try, and it wasn't so bad. I stopped at the traffic lights when I received a call from a friend, "What's up, Roy?" I said casually, as I leaned against the leather seat, watching the traffic meter count down slowly. "Been a while. I'm in New York for now, and I have plans to throw a birthday party for my girl. I will see you there, right?" The deep voice said from the other end. "I'd love to, but you know I don't really immerse myself in all these social gatherings, Roy," I said, watching the meter count from ten impatiently. "Oh, come on. Think of it as a great way to start
