“We have done a good job. Our seniors are enjoying the party, guys.” Celeste cheered up with a bottle of beer. The party was at full swing. I tried my best to get myself engaged in the preparations and avoided coming across Christopher who was with his friends but I could feel his gaze on me.
“Bella, you’re looking lost. If I was in your place, I’d not waste time here but jump on the hottest guy’s lap who is your boyfriend. Go and have fun with Christopher. Make this night memorable for him.” My friends teased me and Celeste laughed.
“My poor brother. His eyes are only on his lady. I bet he’s dying from inside to collect Bella in his arms.” Celeste said proudly.
My eyes stung with tears. This party might be the end of our friendship as well. Celeste had been my best friend for years.
She supported me every time I needed her by my side. I’ll lose both my true love and a pure friendship.
“Excuse me. I’ll come back.”
I excused myself from there and searched for Christopher. I had to tell him that we could no longer be together. I couldn’t be selfish. If having my love means seeing my family destroyed, I’d never choose my happiness.
I couldn’t find him. He was with his friends a while ago. The music was loud, everyone was swaying on the music and drinking. I was passing by a group of senior girls when my ears caught something.
“Did you see how good Rachel and Chris look together? I am sure they’ll do it tonight. Chris was all over her. I must say, Rachel got her hands on the finest specie of men. They make a great pair.”
I heard one of the girls exclaiming.
My feet stopped abruptly. My heart hammered against my ribcage.
“I have heard rumours that soon they’ll announce their relationship. Poor bumpkin Isabella. She thinks she can become the lady of the richest house.” The girls talked and my heart sank.
Whatever Mrs. Salvatore said, replayed in my mind.
I frantically started searching for Christopher. He couldn’t lie to me all this time. The venue had empty rooms on the first floor. I started looking for them in each room until my feet stopped at the doorstep of the last room. They were moans.
“Oh yes, honey…umm..do it faster.” I heard Rachel moaning.
My heartbeats raced up.
I pressed my ears on the door and the man’s voice made the earth slipped under the teeth.
“I..can’t…hold longer.” He gasped.
My body went numb. I twisted the door knob and it wasn’t locked. The sight in front of my eyes wasn’t less than a living nightmare. A naked Rachel was riding him while his hands were on his breasts. Her eyes met mine and I saw a sinister glint in her eyes as she bit her lips. She showed me the mirror of reality. My man was with her.
“Oh God! You are good, Christopher.” Rachel screamed and pounded fiercely on his cock.
He flipped their position started fucking her madly until he groaned like a wild beast as he finished and fell on her. The scene made me cry which caught his attention and our eyes met. I could see blankness at first which gradually transformed into fear and panic. He withdrew himself from her and quickly wore his pants.
I took back steps and turned to run from the sickening place. It reeked of sex.
“Belle, it’s not what you think.” He said blocking my way and tried to hold me but I jerked him away. I felt disgusted by his presence as my heart bled. All these times, I was cursing myself for betraying him.
“Do not show me your face ever again, Christopher.” I said coldly and saw hurt flashed on his face.
“Belle, you have to trust me. I don’t know how I did that. I thought it was you.” He pleaded me.
Anger fuelled me and I slapped him against his left cheek.
“How dare you? You have audacity to make funny excuses on my face.” I yelled as hot tears rolled from my eyes. I wiped them aggressively.
“Please, believe me. I can never betray you.” He said in a defeated tone.
“I don’t want to see your face ever again, Christopher Salvatore. Forget me like a bad memory.” I said flatly and with quick steps I left the place.
“No! I won’t allow it. I swear, I don’t know how I ended up with Rachel. I saw your face. I can never touch a girl other than you.” He said running after me but I didn’t stop. All the pieces started coming together.
“I don’t want to listen to any shit you’ll say to me, Christopher. You have made fun of my feelings. All you wanted was my body and now you’re done with me.” I spatted angrily but he pinned me on the nearest wall.
“I love you, Belle. Do not doubt my feelings. Your body is sacred for me.” He said in a dangerously low tone, his eyes depicted anger but Rachel’s perfume on his body pulled me back into the reality.
With all my might, I pushed him away and slapped him hard across his cheek. He was drunk so he stumbled back.
His eyes red with hurt and anger.
“I hate you, Christopher. Let’s not see each other again. If you loved me, you would have never touched another woman so whatever you’ll say, I won’t believe it. You can go and fuck anyone else inside. I don’t care.” I said wiping my tears.
He stayed there silent. I assumed he accepted his defeat. I ran from there while crying hard. I didn’t care if people saw me in a miserable state. The pain of the heartbreak was unbearable.
All these while when I was madly confessing my love to him, given my everything to him, he was only having fun with me.
How could those eyes lie to me?
But what my eyes had seen? It was worse than my worst nightmare.
“So, you don’t believe me?”
His voice was icy cold, cutting sharp through my heart.
I squeezed my eyes and let the last set of tears fall and then I turned to face him again….for the last time. My face contoured with same coldness.
“I only believe what my own eyes have seen, Christopher.”
“Think again, Belle. If you leave me now, my heart will never accept you again.” His face was blank but I saw vulnerability and fear in those eyes.
I slowly removed the ring he slipped on my finger when he proposed me for marriage and placed it on his palm.
“Goodbye, Christopher. I hope you’ll be happy with the woman you will choose as your better half, sadly, I can’t be the one.”
[ Isabella ]“Mom, I missed you. Why don’t you come to meet me?”Iris, my daughter with those sad eyes asked. My heart twisted. I felt the squeezing pain. I wish I could tell her how messed up my life was and I wanted to keep her away from seeing the hardships I had been facing.“I am sorry, Iris. I miss you too. I miss you a lot but you know Mom needs a job first so we can live together. Please, give Mom some more time.” I cupped her face and made her another promise. She lifted her tiny hand and wiped my tears, “I understand, Mom. Don’t worry. I will wait. I want to live with you.” She rested her head against my chest and I hugged my daughter tightly.I couldn’t blame anyone but myself for Iris’s sadness. She deserved a better life, a happier childhood. When I found out I was pregnant, I decided to keep the baby. I wanted the last piece of Christopher with me.She looked like his small replica with same eyes and hairs. She was my little secret and I had to protect her from those who
[ Isabella ]I left early from Christopher’s house. The twins had their school. I promised to see Ariel during weekends. Surprisingly, this time, she agreed and didn’t cry or tried to stop me.Christopher was sitting in the living room, reading newspaper. I couldn’t help but stole a glance at his charismatic figure. the way his hand moved to pick his coffee cup and his jaws ticked. He looked more handsome in his late twenties.Things would be different if I had the courage to fight for my love.“Ms. Primrose, the cab you called is here.” A maid came to inform me.I tore my gaze from Christopher as embarrassment washed over me. He didn’t look up like I was only an invisible ghost to him.“Thanks, I’ll take my leave now.” I said with a small smile and hurried towards the main door when his deep, cold voice forced me to halt in my tracks.“There’s no need to come again. Ariel looks fine now. I’ll hire the best nanny who has professional experience. I can’t let some undereducated and unpr
[ Isabella ]My heart thumped against my ribcage as I walked through the iron gates of the house which I left earlier with humiliation and another heartbreak. Christopher was ahead of me, his deep footsteps killing the grave silence of his living room.I clasped my sweaty palms. My shirt clung to my skin after soaking in the rain. He didn’t even offer me an umbrella. Few words, laced in iciness and I found myself obeying him when I should have chosen my pride.I followed his trail not having the courage to ask him why he went to my apartment and commanded me to come along with him. He led us to the first floor and clicked open a door with caution so it’d not make any noisePurple coloured walls and toys arranged beautifully in the room answered my questions. It was his twins’ room. Their photos were hung on the wall and there were two small beds in the centre of the room.“Princess…” Christopher spoke with such tenderness that for a moment, my heart skipped a beat and when he stepped
[ Isabella ]The pain I supressed for years, resurfaced with such a force that for a few moments, I couldn’t speak or blink my eyes.Christopher was standing right in front of me.The warmth in those eyes was gone. All I could see was sheer coldness, no emotions, not even hatred that could help me to guess what he felt about me.“Celeste!”Suddenly, he roared and it made me flinch in fear. His jaws were clenched tightly.“Chris, for God’s sake. Don’t shout or you will give me a heart attack.” She came outside pressing a hand on her chest but when she saw me, she understood her brother’s outburst.“Oh, Bella. Please, come. I was waiting for you.” She passed me a nervous smile.“I don’t need a nanny for my kids. Please, tell this lady to leave.” Christoher said in a flat tone and his aloofness hurt me.It sliced my heart but he had all the right to feel that way.“Chris, what are you saying? You know if twins approve someone it means they like that person and feel safe around them. Plea
[ Christopher ]“Sir, these reports are sent by the HR department. They look promising. We can expand our business in South-East Asia. Our partners there have been waiting for your response. Shall I fix a meeting with them today?”My secretory, Nancy explained me the reports and also asked for my permission for my ambitious project.I put off my glasses and rubbed my temples. I work tirelessly nowadays to take my company on a new height. It is my only aim in my life. I can’t disappoint my mother but I also feel torn apart between my responsibilities.“No, Nancy, not today. I am going home to spend some time with my kids because then we won’t have time as we need to fly for Ottava.” I said and she nodded in agreement.I leaned back on my chair and took a deep breath. I wish I could run away from here for some time and find the solitude which had left me years ago. I tried to fill the void but it’s still there.“Chris, why are you overworking yourself? I heard from Nancy that you cancel
Five years later…[ Isabella ]“God! What am I supposed to do now? It was the tenth interview that I failed.” I clutched my hairs in frustration.“Hey, chill. There are still three companies who are hiring freshers. You can try your luck there.”Windy, the waitress in my favourite café tried to cheer me up by placing my favourite chocolate mousse cake in front of me.“Thanks, Windy but I can’t help this low feeling and rejections. They won’t help me to pay my bills. My landlord will throw me out of my apartment very soon if I don’t pay my three months’ rent.” I shared my predicament with her.I was fired from my last job. I worked in a hotel as assistant manager, the salary was good since my grades both at college and university but one day, I was told that they replaced me with someone. It was one on the recommendation of a rich family.Although I had potential and I worked really hard but everything is useless.“Stay positive. You know you’re always welcome to come here to work wit
