[ Isabella Primrose ]“We have done a good job. Our seniors are enjoying the party, guys.” Celeste cheered up with a bottle of beer. The party was at full swing. I tried my best to get myself engaged in the preparations and avoided coming across Christopher who was with his friends but I could feel his gaze on me.“Bella, you’re looking lost. If I was in your place, I’d not waste time here but jump on the hottest guy’s lap who is your boyfriend. Go and have fun with Christopher. Make this night memorable for him.” My friends teased me and Celeste laughed.“My poor brother. His eyes are only on his lady. I bet he’s dying from inside to collect Bella in his arms.” Celeste said proudly. My eyes stung with tears. This party might be the end of our friendship as well. Celeste had been my best friend for years. She supported me every time I needed her by my side. I’ll lose both my true love and a pure friendship.“Excuse me. Five years later…[ Isabella ]“God! What am I supposed to do now? It was the tenth interview that I failed.” I clutched my hairs in frustration.“Hey, chill. There are still three companies who are hiring freshers. You can try your luck there.”Windy, the waitress in my favourite café tried to cheer me up by placing my favourite chocolate mousse cake in front of me.“Thanks, Windy but I can’t help this low feeling and rejections. They won’t help me to pay my bills. My landlord will throw me out of my apartment very soon if I don’t pay my three months’ rent.” I shared my predicament with her.I was fired from my last job. I worked in a hotel as assistant manager, the salary was good since my grades both at college and university but one day, I was told that they replaced me with someone. It was one on the recommendation of a rich family.Although I had potential and I worked really hard but everything is useless.“Stay positive. [ Christopher ]“Sir, these reports are sent by the HR department. They look promising. We can expand our business in South-East Asia. Our partners there have been waiting for your response. Shall I fix a meeting with them today?”My secretory, Nancy explained me the reports and also asked for my permission for my ambitious project.I put off my glasses and rubbed my temples. I work tirelessly nowadays to take my company on a new height. It is my only aim in my life. I can’t disappoint my mother but I also feel torn apart between my responsibilities.“No, Nancy, not today. I am going home to spend some time with my kids because then we won’t have time as we need to fly for Ottava.” I said and she nodded in agreement.I leaned back on my chair and took a deep breath. I wish I could run away from here for some time and find the solitude which had left me years ago. I tried to fill the void but it’s still there.“Chris, why are you overworking yourself? I heard from Nancy that you cancel

[ Isabella ]The pain I supressed for years, resurfaced with such a force that for a few moments, I couldn’t speak or blink my eyes.Christopher was standing right in front of me.The warmth in those eyes was gone. All I could see was sheer coldness, no emotions, not even hatred that could help me to guess what he felt about me.“Celeste!”Suddenly, he roared and it made me flinch in fear. His jaws were clenched tightly.“Chris, for God’s sake. Don’t shout or you will give me a heart attack.” She came outside pressing a hand on her chest but when she saw me, she understood her brother’s outburst.“Oh, Bella. Please, come. I was waiting for you.” She passed me a nervous smile.“I don’t need a nanny for my kids. Please, tell this lady to leave.” Christoher said in a flat tone and his aloofness hurt me.It sliced my heart but he had all the right to feel that way.“Chris, what are you saying? You know if twins approve someone it means they like that person and feel safe around them. Plea

[ Isabella ]My heart thumped against my ribcage as I walked through the iron gates of the house which I left earlier with humiliation and another heartbreak. Christopher was ahead of me, his deep footsteps killing the grave silence of his living room.I clasped my sweaty palms. My shirt clung to my skin after soaking in the rain. He didn’t even offer me an umbrella. Few words, laced in iciness and I found myself obeying him when I should have chosen my pride.I followed his trail not having the courage to ask him why he went to my apartment and commanded me to come along with him. He led us to the first floor and clicked open a door with caution so it’d not make any noisePurple coloured walls and toys arranged beautifully in the room answered my questions. It was his twins’ room. Their photos were hung on the wall and there were two small beds in the centre of the room.“Princess…” Christopher spoke with such tenderness that for a moment, my heart skipped a beat and when he stepped

[ Isabella ]I left early from Christopher’s house. The twins had their school. I promised to see Ariel during weekends. Surprisingly, this time, she agreed and didn’t cry or tried to stop me.Christopher was sitting in the living room, reading newspaper. I couldn’t help but stole a glance at his charismatic figure. the way his hand moved to pick his coffee cup and his jaws ticked. He looked more handsome in his late twenties.Things would be different if I had the courage to fight for my love.“Ms. Primrose, the cab you called is here.” A maid came to inform me.I tore my gaze from Christopher as embarrassment washed over me. He didn’t look up like I was only an invisible ghost to him.“Thanks, I’ll take my leave now.” I said with a small smile and hurried towards the main door when his deep, cold voice forced me to halt in my tracks.“There’s no need to come again. Ariel looks fine now. I’ll hire the best nanny who has professional experience. I can’t let some undereducated and unpr

PART- 8

[ Isabella ]“Mom, I missed you. Why don’t you come to meet me?”Iris, my daughter with those sad eyes asked. My heart twisted. I felt the squeezing pain. I wish I could tell her how messed up my life was and I wanted to keep her away from seeing the hardships I had been facing.“I am sorry, Iris. I miss you too. I miss you a lot but you know Mom needs a job first so we can live together. Please, give Mom some more time.” I cupped her face and made her another promise. She lifted her tiny hand and wiped my tears, “I understand, Mom. Don’t worry. I will wait. I want to live with you.” She rested her head against my chest and I hugged my daughter tightly.I couldn’t blame anyone but myself for Iris’s sadness. She deserved a better life, a happier childhood. When I found out I was pregnant, I decided to keep the baby. I wanted the last piece of Christopher with me.She looked like his small replica with same eyes and hairs. She was my little secret and I had to protect her from those who
