“Oh? What did he tell you?” I asked, wondering if Tim had told her what he truly was. “Well, he basically told me why he did the things he did before. He wouldn’t talk much about what happened with him and Jacob, but he told me he had done things he wasn’t proud of. He’s still keeping that part of his life secret, but I guess I can understand since he doesn’t want me mixed up in it. But he also told me that Jacob told him he could either bring me in or I would be in danger. “Dominique, I am pleading with you to stay here for the next few days, not just the next few nights. I can’t say what it was at your house, but I don’t like it.” “Trust me when I say I am not going anywhere for a bit. Dominique spent the next two days at my house. I came out at night and sat with her on the couch but never tried to touch her. Sometimes she would be on her phone or laptop. Sometimes Dominique would snuggle up with me and play on her phone. I never said anything as I tried to give her space as she had asked. She didn’t talk to me either. Instead, she would lean up against me, and I would caress her arm or run my fingers through her hair. I was happy that she was allowing me to touch her at all. Tonight was the last night Dominique would be here. I walked out to the living room and found her on her laptop. I sat beside her, but she seemed so engrossed in what she was doing that she didn’t notice me. “What are you doing, Dominique?” I asked. “I, uh, I’m writing a story,” she stammered. “Do you mind if I look at it?” I asked. “Um, I would rather you didn’t. Dominique rode to the club with me the next night. I was going to take her back to my house, and she could leave from there if she wanted to. There was disappointment coming from Dominique several times while she had stayed with me. It was almost as if she wanted me to do something, but my promise was stronger than that. I opened her door and put my arm around her shoulders as we walked in. We walked in, and I sat at our usual table. Dominique began setting up the system and ran some songs through it. We played, and I could tell Tim was watching Dominique all night. It was hard not to. She was so into the music when she played and sang. Dominique came and sat with me. I awoke for the night and found I had a text message from Dominique. She was asking me about the contracts. I texted her back to let her know I would come in and talk with her. While dealing with everything else, I had put the business deal on the back burner. I suppose it would help her get her mind off of other things. This also let me know that she had left my house when she woke up. I went to the club and walked over to our table. Dominique was already sitting down, so I joined her. I smiled, and she smiled back. It had been several days since Dominique left, and I needed to get ahead of the situation with Jacob and his pack. I went to the club close to closing and waited for Tim. I needed to know for sure what was going on, and since he knew more about Jacob and what he was demanding than anyone else, he would tell me. I needed to know how to protect Dominique. Once I saw everyone come out, I rolled my window down. Sitting almost beside Tim’s car, I didn’t want anyone else to know I was there. He walked over to his car, but I knew he had scented me. He got in his car and waited until Melissa and Post left. Being a vampire had its perks. I compelled the guy I hired to check things out and not to tell anyone but me what he’d found out. He could be my eyes and ears since I couldn’t go out during the day or get close to the wolves. He got some excellent information for me. It seems Jacob was not only a nuisance to me but to wolves in general. It turns out that Jacob had a feud with a neighboring pack. Yes, Jacob was bad news all the way around. Not only had he poached members of the neighboring pack, but he had also moved onto their territory as far as his businesses. Some of his pack members were drug dealers, which was not allowed in the White Moon pack territory. Jacob’s people had been selling drugs there for a long time. When the two weeks were over, I received a text from Dominique. She was back home. I had waited to talk to her, but this had been killing me. Finally, she said she would come to my house if I wanted to talk. I answered her immediately as I wanted to see her. I was also anxious as I had seen the pictures she had uploaded. I was not too fond of how that man had been all over her. I wondered if she had done anything with him while she was there. I could feel it when Dominique pulled in. I knew she was here, and I was trying my best to be patient and wait for her to come in. I heard the door of her car open and close. I was nervous, to say the least. Tonight would be the night I either lost her or gained the love of my life forever. I walked over and opened the door when she didn’t come in. I smiled as I heard her heartbeat get a little faster. At least she was happy to see me, although she was also nervous. I pulled her against me and kissed her. I couldn’t help it as I had missed her
