Chapter 2

작가: Bubbles
Natasha’s POV

Riven came back the next morning.

Helen was with him, eyes red and swollen. His Beta was right behind them.

The moment Helen saw me, she dropped to her knees. Tears started falling before she even opened her mouth.

His Beta handed me a piece of paper — a pregnancy report.

Helen was pregnant.

My hand shook slightly as I held it. I looked at Riven.

"What do you want to do?"

Helen didn't give him a chance to answer. She pressed her forehead to the floor, sobbing.

"Natasha, I'm so sorry. I'm carrying Riven's child."

"Riven said it's up to you — whether I can keep it."

"Please. Please let me keep this baby."

Blood was already seeping from her forehead. Even the Beta looked uncomfortable watching her.

"Luna," the Beta said carefully, "you're unable to have children. But Phantom Pack needs an heir. Please consider what's best for the pack's future."

"Helen may be an Omega, but her loyalty to the Alpha is absolute. There is no downside to her keeping the baby."

I ignored him and looked at Riven again.

"What do you want to do?"

Something crossed his face — a brief struggle. Then he dropped to his knees in front of me.

This man who had never bowed to anyone, kneeling for her and the child she was carrying.

"Natasha. Please. Let her keep the baby."

"You can't have children. Try to understand — this puts me in an impossible position."

The last piece of hope I'd been carrying quietly shattered.

Seven years ago, I'd used my gift — the prophetic sight that came with Dragon Clan blood — to see that Riven was going to die in a crash. I'd burned through everything I had to pinpoint the exact time and place, to get him out of the way.

The cost was permanent. I'd never be able to carry a child.

When Riven confessed his feelings five years ago, I told him upfront. I asked him if he could live with never having children.

He'd looked me straight in the eye and said: "Having you is enough."

And I'd believed him.

I opened my eyes. The memory dissolved, and I was back here, watching this ridiculous scene play out.

At this moment, I finally came to understand. True hearts existed in this world, yet they could change in the twinkling of an eye.

I folded the report and set it on the table.

"Fine."

Four more days. Then I'd be gone.

I would return to the life that was meant for me, and nothing here mattered any longer.

Riven let out a long breath and looked over at Helen with relief.

I walked toward the bedroom. He followed.

He held up a necklace and clasped it gently around my neck.

"I saw this at the jeweler's a while ago. Thought it would suit you."

For a moment, he was the Riven I used to know.

Yet his next words pulled me harshly back to reality.

His eyes drifted to my wrist. "That lucky crystal bracelet I gave you — do you think Helen could wear it for a while? She's pregnant, and I thought it might help keep her safe."

The bracelet wasn't cheap. It was cut from crystals said to have been blessed by the Moon Goddess herself.

And it had been his gift to me on my twentieth birthday.

I studied his face, looking for any flicker of guilt or awareness. There was nothing — just that same gentle smile, like this was the most ordinary request in the world.

"Don't worry. After she gives birth, she'll return it."

I unclasped the bracelet from my wrist and put it on Helen's myself.

"I hope it really does keep you both safe."

Helen's eyes lit up with something I wasn't supposed to see. She dropped her voice low enough that only I could hear:

"Oh, it will. Once I give the Alpha his heir, your position is mine anyway."

This woman was trouble — and Riven had no idea.

He was just looking at me, pleased. "Natasha, I knew you'd understand."

Understand. No.

I wasn't understanding anything. I just didn't care anymore.

I gave a small nod and went back to my room.

I pulled out a travel bag and opened the storage cabinet.

Inside: the crescent-shaped gem earrings Riven had crossed the Nolan Mountains to find for me; the perfume he'd blended himself, custom-made to help me sleep.

I took them out one by one and put them in the bag.

The bag filled up. The memories got quieter.

I pushed down that hollow feeling and opened the last drawer.

His portraits of me — years of them, from the girl I used to be to the woman I'd become. Every version of us.

I picked them up one by one. The good memories came back on their own.

I was still standing there, lost in them, when the door burst open.

Riven came at me like a storm, eyes blazing.

"Did you poison Helen? Where's the antidote?"

Natasha’s POVRiven watched us walk out the door and then just... sat there, like someone had cut the strings. He didn't know how long he'd been sitting when a man appeared in front of him — a stranger, but something about his face was familiar.Riven frowned. "Can I help you?""Hi. I'm Natasha's brother. Cole. And you're Riven?"Riven went still. "She never mentioned a brother."Cole sat down across from him with an easy smile. "Our situation's a little complicated. I'm sure you understand by now — she couldn't exactly bring it up."He folded his hands on the table. "But I'll tell you this — my sister loved you with everything she had."The smile faded. "And you threw it away.""I love Natasha," Riven said quickly. "Helen was only ever about having an heir for the pack. I never—""Shut up!" Cole's voice dropped. "You have no right to mention the child!""You keep saying it was about your heir. Do you remember what you promised her?""Five years ago, my idiot sister told me you didn't

  • Never Betray My Love   Chapter 8

Natasha’s POVMy whole body locked up.Riven. How did he find me here?I pulled my expression back together and turned around. "Long time no see. What are you doing here?"He was breathing hard, voice rough. "I've been looking for you for a while. Someone told me you were here — I drove straight over.""Natasha, I know everything now. Helen planned all of it. She played me. I've already thrown her out of Phantom Pack.""You're the only Luna I want. Please — come back with me."That last part made Kai's eyes go wide. He stepped in front of me before I could speak, glaring at Riven like a wolf defending his territory.Riven frowned. "I'm Natasha's mate. Who are you?""She told me she's single. Just because you've got a mouth doesn't mean you get to run it. For all you know, she's my mate."I sighed and moved Kai behind me."Riven. We're done. We've been done since the moment you decided to keep whatever you had going with Helen.""You showing up here just reminded me — we should finalize

  • Never Betray My Love   Chapter 7

Natasha’s POVThe car slowed as Starlight Pack came into view on the horizon.I barely had the door open before Cole had his arms around me.The Starlight Alpha stood nearby, exhaling slowly. "You're home. That's what matters."My eyes burned. My parents died when I was young. It was Starlight Pack's Alpha who took in me and Cole and raised us. When I was sixteen, I left on a mission and fell head-over-heels for Riven on the spot. I never went back.Nearly ten years without seeing my brother, all for something I'd called love.I felt the guilt of it settle heavy in my chest — time I'd wasted, people I'd left behind, a man who'd raised me that I'd never properly thanked."Natasha! Long time no see!"A bright, easy voice. I turned.A young man I almost didn't recognize — white t-shirt, arms filling out the sleeves, long legs in cargo pants tucked into boots. He looked like he'd gotten about a foot taller.I hesitated. "Kai?"He lit up, surprised I'd remembered. He'd been eight years old

  • Never Betray My Love   Chapter 6

Riven’s POVI sat in the living room for a long time after that call, turning the half-burned portraits over in my hands.Every one of them was proof of how much I loved her.I kept coming back to the moment I'd stormed into her room — screaming at her over Helen, ripping the portraits out of her hands without a second thought and sending them flying. What was going through her mind right then? She'd probably been sitting there with our memories, and I'd torn straight through them. For the first time, I felt something close to regret.I loved her. So why had I treated her like that for Helen's sake? Even if she'd made a mistake — acting out of jealousy, that was just love, too much love — I'd been too harsh. My phone buzzed. I grabbed it fast, hoping it was the Beta with news.It was Helen's doctor.I almost didn't answer. I did.The voice on the other end was shaking."Alpha. We've been running analysis on the blood samples from the transfusion. Natasha — she may actually be a Dragon

  • Never Betray My Love   Chapter 5

Riven’s POVAfter I left the hospital, I went straight back to the office and buried myself in the backlog. The next day, around noon, the Beta knocked and came in.I was going through a contract. "How's Natasha? Has she come around yet?"The Beta's expression was off. "Luna — we're not sure where she is."I put the contract down."What does that mean? I told her to stay at the hospital until Helen forgave her.""Helen says she fell asleep right after you left last night. She didn't see Natasha leave.""We tried calling. The number's been disconnected."Something cold settled in my gut.The Beta caught my expression and tried to ease it. "We're tracking her down now. Natasha's just a regular werewolf — where could she possibly go? She can't get out of your reach. We'll find her, you can apologize, and this blows over."That helped, a little. "Six hours. Bring her back.""Yes, Alpha."After the Beta left, I picked the contract back up. Couldn't read a single word.I tore off my tie, gra

  • Never Betray My Love   Chapter 4

Natasha’s POVI woke up in a hospital bed. Riven was sitting beside me."You're awake." He touched my forehead. "Does anything hurt?"I looked at him and couldn't read him at all.Wasn't he the one who put me here? How could he sit there with that worried face, like none of it had happened?I glanced at the clock on the wall. Three days had passed. One more day. Then I'd be out of here. There was no point in untangling this anymore.I pushed his hand away and pulled back the covers to get up.My ankles were chained to the bed frame.Riven stood, his voice flat. "I knew you wouldn't see what you did wrong. You can sit here and think about it. When you're ready to admit your mistakes, I'll have someone let you out."I was too exhausted to argue. I just lay back down and closed my eyes.He sighed. "Consider this a lesson. And after this — leave Helen alone. She hasn't done anything wrong.""Whatever else is going on, you're still the only one I love."Before he finished talking, the Beta
