Chapter Eleven

Aria's POV

I woke up and the bright lights shone in my eyes and I quickly closed them. Was I in heaven? Was this how heaven looked like?

"Is she up already?" I heard a female voice ask.

"I don't know, but I think I saw her open her eyes." A male voice answered.

"Go get the doctor." The female said and I heard a pair of footsteps go away and a door locking.

Wait! Did I just hear doctor? They are no doctors in heaven, are they?

I slowly open my eyes letting them adjust to the lights. 

"Hey, you are up?" I turned my head to the side and saw a young girl smiling at me. She was black and wearing spectacles and her hair was braided. She seem like she was 5'1 feet tall. She was really beautiful.

"How are you feeling?" She asked and I tried to sit up but I felt a sharp pain at the back of my head.

"Ouch!" I closed my eyes and I felt someone's hands on my arms.

"Lay back down, don't strain your body." She said as she helped me lie back down on the bed.

Just then the door open and the doctor came in with a nurse in tow, and a teenage boy.

"I can see you're awake already. Let me run some tests on you and see how you are progressing." The doctor said as he put his stethoscope over my chest and listened to my heartbeat, it reminded me of my check-ups back at home with my doctor, which reminded me of Axel.

"I can see your heartbeating rate is okay. You have two broken ribs on your right side, your left leg is fracture but we have put plaster on it and you have minor injuries on your head. Though it will take a really long time for you to recover because you have lost a lot of blood, and being a victim of leukemia your body's immunity is very weak."

"How long will you think she take to recover?" The girl asked.

"She will take a couple of months."

"When will she be discharged." The boy asked.

"You can take her home in two weeks time, but she will have to be looked after properly so as to fully recover."

"Okay." She said.

"Do you feel any pain....."

"It's Aria, Aria Watson." I told the doctor and he nodded.

"Well Miss Watson, are you feeling any pain?"

"Yeah, at the back of my head and my right side." I said.

"The nurse will give you an injection that will ease down the pain, and then you will be able to rest." He said and left the room. The nurse gave the injection which was not very painful, as I was already used to getting injections.

"Have some rest now." The middle aged nurse told me as she smiled sweetly.

"Thank you." The girl told her and she left the room.

"You feeling okay?" The girl asked softly as she came to sit by my side.

"Yeah." I said.

"Why were you standing in the middle of the road? You could have gotten killed you know." The boy said.

"Xander!" The girl hissed at the boy as she slapped him on his arm.

"Don't mind him." She said as she smiled at me.

"My name is Cassandra, but you can call me Cassie, and this is Xander, my best friend." She said.

"I am Aria." I introduced myself again.

"So you brought me here?" I asked.

"Yeah, we run into you." Cassie said. "But why were you standing in the middle of the road? Were you trying to get yourself killed?" She asked.

I looked away from them and kept quiet. I did not want to remember everything that had happened because I knew I would start crying and I did not want to break down in front of strangers.

"You don't have to answer if you don't feel like it." I heard Cassie say.

"Actually we wanted to contact your family and inform them that you are in the hospital but we did not find you with an ID, can you please give us your family's contact information so that we can reach out to them." Cassie said but I still kept quiet.

"I have no family." I said without looking at them and tears started forming in my eyes.

"Really! You look so familiar. I thought you that rich guy's daughter who refused to marry that blind guy and......"

"Not helping Xander." Cassie said cutting off Xander.

I looked back at them found them staring at me.

"Ummm..... do you have any friends that you can reach out?" Cassie asked and I shook my head.

"Do you have any place to stay or where were you staying before we.... you know, ran into you?" She asked again.

"I have nowhere to go." I said in a low voice enough for them to hear, and they looked at each other.

"I need to use the bathroom." I said as I tried to sit up but due to the pain I couldn't move.

"Don't move, let me get the nurse." Cassie said and stood up to leave.

"Ummm.....I'm sorry for what I said, I did not mean to hurt your feelings or anything." Xander apologized.

"It's okay, it's not like you were wrong or anything."

Xander looked like he wanted to say something but decided against it.

The door opened and Cassie came in with the a different nurse from the first one.

"Help me get her to stand up."The nurse said to Cassie.

They help me sit up and held both my arms slowly led me to the door that was on the side of the room. We went in and they helped me sit on the toilet seat.

"When you are done just call out to as, we will be right outside." The nurse said and she left the bathroom with Cassie.

I finished doing my business and tried standing up so that I could go wash my hands. I slowly stood up and stretched out my hand to reach for the counter and held on it, I used it as a support and walked towards the sink. I felt pain all over my body.

I reached the sink and stared at myself in the mirror. I had bruises and cuts all over my already ugly face, I looked like a monster. I ran my hand through my hair and took a whole hairball from my head, I felt tears started flowing down my cheeks. I threw it in the sink and opened the tap letting the water flow. I washed my tear stained face and slowly walked to the door.

I opened the door and stopped at midway when I heard Cassie and Xander talking.

"We should help her Xander." Cassie said.

"How?"

"She can come stay with me, I have a whole two bedroom apartment all to myself and I still don't have a roommate." Cassie said.

"Are you sure you want her to stay with you?" Xander asked.

"Yeah. She told us that she nowhere to go and she looks like she has been through so much already, I really want to help her."

I opened the door and they both my way.

"I really appreciate your kindness but I will manage." I said as I started walking towards the bed and Cassie came rushing by my side.

"You should have called out to me, I would have helped you." She said as she started helping me walk to the bed.

"Xander, please give me a hand over here." They helped me go sit at the bed.

"I really appreciate your offer about letting me stay with you, but I will manage on my own." I said.

"But you just said......" She started saying but I cut her off.

"I know you feel sorry for me and you are just trying to help me out of pity but I don't need it." I said rather harshly.

"She is trying to be nice to you and you are talking to her that way!" Xander snapped.

"No Xander, there is no need to be upset. I can relate where she is coming from and I know how you feel Aria, but I am not doing this because I have pity for you or anything." Cassie said and left the room.

"Look what you did." Xander said and left the room.

I was very guilty for snapping like that at Cassie. Maybe I had misjudged her actions, she was just trying to be nice to me and I talked to her that way.

I drew in a sharp breath as I closed my eyes, I felt tears starting to flow down my face and I remembered all that had happened, from finding out that my father wants to use me for his own personal gain, refusing to marry Axel, landing in the hands of lowlife criminals, trying to take my life away twice, and upsetting a sweet young girl who was only trying to be nice to me.
