Chap 4

I glanced at Allison sleeping beside me in the moving vehicle. Each time I looked at her, I felt a sense of pride and ownership. Allison seemed different from all the other girls I had known. All the others before her had wanted -no- desired me. While talking or having conversations with me, it almost felt as if I could read their minds. Some were after the money, others the wealth, power, and position that came with being my Luna. They had all felt unreal somehow.

In my experience, women were flighty things. The predominant thoughts in their heads were to look pretty, find a suitable mate, make babies, and hang on to their husband's every word. I had voiced these thoughts to some of my pack members once. Though they had not said anything- not daring to contradict me- I could tell from the expressions on their faces that they thought I was being too judgemental and harsh. I would be the first to admit that I was- for want of a better word- somewhat harsh but it was in my nature to always say things as they were. I had had countless affairs, but none of them had left any mark or lasting impression on my heart.

The car went through a rough patch on the road. It jolted Allison. She stirred but did not wake up.

I leaned forward to talk to the driver."Drive slowly when you come to a bump." I instructed.

Eyes trained on the road, he bowed. "Yes, Alpha," he said.

I glanced behind me, seeing the convoy of my guards in cars riding behind me. Half sitting up, I looked further down the road, checking to see if there were any others besides my pack plying the road. I could not tell how important and essential Allison was to her pack's survival. For all I knew, Alpha Scott may have reluctantly let her leave with me, seeing he was outnumbered and may have decided to get her back. It was a long shot though but I was always prepared for any eventuality. It was one of the reasons why I was the most powerful Lycan King.

Not seeing anything out of the ordinary, I leaned back, relaxing on the leather seats. I had to admit to myself that I did not want Allison to wake up yet. I kind of liked seeing her like this. She looked relaxed in sleep, the habitual frown I suspected she always wore, gone.

Gently, I ran my hands through her short hair. The hair was something that she would have to change as my mate. It was a lovely shade of auburn that had caught the light when the sun shone on it.  Allison was going to have to grow it out. She evidently did not take pains to maintain it. It was cut carelessly, uneven in some places. It had perhaps been long at one time but had been trimmed in order to get it out of the way.

It was amazing that after waiting for my mate for so many years, I had finally found her in Allison. This afternoon at her pack, I had fallen in love at the first glimpse I had of her. Though I could not see so much of her face, those expressive green eyes had enthralled me, keeping me guessing as to the identity of the owner.

When she had run away, I had resolved to follow her to the ends of the earth if that was what it took. With the way she carried herself, fought, and ran, I could tell she was no ordinary she-wolf. It was evident that she was very strong. I had read the chagrin in her eyes as I had caught up with her. Secretly, I had been impressed with her speed and dexterity, but she had been no match for me. The thought of losing her almost as soon as I had found her had driven me wild. Even though I was not one for making rash decisions, I would likely have started a war there and then if Allison had refused to accompany me.

I glanced out of the window at the passing scenery and almost immediately found my eyes being drawn again like a magnet to Allison. I was startled to find her watching me. It had not been up to five seconds since I had last looked at her. I was sure she had not been faking sleep. Now, she looked wide awake and aware. I nodded my head in approval, happy to be proven right.

The ability to be alert even while at rest was the mark of a true pack warrior. I had been mildly startled, though not shocked when my guard had told me he had heard from the rumors that Allison was a female Beta in her pack. That would make my mate the first female Beta in werewolf history.

Allison's eyes shifted away from mine as soon as she found me watching her. There was a stubborn set to the exposed part of her jaw. Consumed by curiosity, I longed to pull off that mask and see the face underneath but I restrained myself. She was my mate after all and she wasn't going anywhere.

I adjusted in my seat, hoping she would turn and speak to me, even if only to say something snide. In my experience, women could not endure long silences. She gave no sign that she was even aware of my presence. I clenched my hands in annoyance. There was every indication that Allison was stubborn and self-willed. Like her brother had said she looked- wild, but by the goddess, I would make her submit to me. I would break her will, molding it to mine and if she persisted in her stubbornness, I would punish her until she yielded. After all, there were many ways to tame a Luna.

A cold smile touched my lips at the thought of that prospect. She gave me a furtive look, her eyebrow raised in inquiry at the smile on my face. Her body language and movements spoke of distrust. It was obvious that she was not at ease around me. I decided that I would give her time to get used to me and trust me. I sighed inwardly at the thought of getting her to trust me. It was bound to be a long and arduous process.

The car negotiated a turn. We were close to my pack's borders now. Keeping an eye on the road, I watched Allison's reaction closely. As we swept through the massive gates, her eyes widened in surprise. I was well aware of the effect the sight of my pack had on people. Beginning from the pack's borders were realistic statues of huge wolves every few paces. The surrounding houses were imposing and grand. The most imposing of them all was the masterpiece that was my house.

The car came to a smooth stop in front of my house. Allison made a move to get out.

"Sit," I ordered.

"Why? We are in your house, aren't we? You forced me to come here, so I might as well go in."

"Allison, I am going to carry you in."

She snorted. "There is no way in hell that is happening."

She yanked the handle of the door, almost getting it open. At a signal from my guard, her side of the door locked. I came down, opened the door myself, and stood in front of her. She glared at me.

"My Luna will not walk into my house on her own feet for the first time. I will carry you in.' I informed her.

Cutting short her cry of protest, I swept her into my arms and carried her into the house.
