Chapter 6

مؤلف: Mint Soda
When the rescue workers pulled her out of the car, they asked, according to standard procedure, "Do you need us to notify your family?"

Quinn was silent for a second before she shook her head.

"No need. I don't have a family."

A husband and a son who discarded her life without a second thought did not deserve to be called her family.

She endured the dizziness following the impact all by herself and went to the hospital.

Fortunately, her examination revealed no major injuries. She needed only medication and a few days of rest.

After picking up her medicine, she happened to pass by a room where a doctor was tending to Charlotte's wound.

It was merely a shallow scrape that bled just a tiny bit, yet it was enough to sound major alarm bells for the father and son standing beside her.

Levi stared fixedly at the gauze in the doctor's hands, his small face scrunched up tight.

"Uncle, will a scar be left on my mom's palm?"

Daniel could not help but speak up to remind the doctor as well. "She needs to play the piano. Please handle it carefully."

Hearing this, the doctor teased them with a broad smile.

"It's truly rare to see a husband and son who care this much. Rest assured, a tiny wound like this will not leave a scar."

Quinn stood outside the door and lowered her eyes to conceal the mockery beneath. Yes, they were truly a good husband and son.

She withdrew her gaze, turned around, and prepared to leave.

"Quinn?!"

"Nanny Quinn?!"

Two voices carrying unshakeable surprise sounded behind her.

"Quinn, how did you get to the hospital? Did you get checked out? Are you alright?"

Daniel reacted first and could not help asking, a trace of guilt hidden deep within his eyes.

"Thank you for your concern, Mr. Horton, but I'm fine."

Her address to him caused Daniel to freeze.

Even though he knew that Quinn's current identity was the Hortons' nanny, hearing her call him "Mr. Horton" with such cold distance made his heart feel indescribably complex.

He wanted to speak, but looking at her emotionless expression, the words caught in his throat, leaving him unable to say a word.

At that moment, an urgent phone call came through.

There was a sudden emergency at the company, so Daniel had no choice but to leave first, letting them return home on their own.

Back at the villa, Levi took the initiative to pull Charlotte upstairs to rest.

Quinn watched helplessly as Charlotte walked straight into the bedroom that originally belonged to her.

After settling Charlotte down, Levi jogged right back downstairs. He pointed at the nanny's room on the ground floor and spoke to Quinn.

"Nanny Quinn, this is your room."

Quinn gave him a calm glance. "Alright."

For some unknown reason, Levi's face suddenly changed. He glared at her angrily for a moment before running off.

Quinn did not care and pushed open the door to the nanny's room.

In just three days of her absence, all of her clothes and daily necessities had been moved here from the master bedroom. It seemed they were truly putting on a complete act.

Over the next few days, Quinn dutifully played her role as the nanny.

When Levi suffered a high fever that night from eating ice cream, she merely instructed Charlotte on how to reduce the child's fever, no longer staying awake all night to watch over him like she used to.

When Daniel returned home late after a business dinner, she set out a glass of water, no longer bothering to prepare a hangover smoothie.

...

This continued until Levi's birthday.

In all the previous years, Quinn would hold Levi's hand to greet the guests at the entrance. This year, however, Levi could not wait to drag Charlotte toward the front door early in the morning.

As he passed Quinn, he deliberately paused and said in a solemn tone, "Nanny Quinn, Mom and I are going to greet my classmates. You can just stay in the kitchen to help cook. You don't need to come to the living room."

Hearing this, a sarcastic smile tugged at the corner of Quinn's mouth.

She knew that Levi was terrified his classmates would see her and ask him right in front of her why his mother had changed, which would blow his and Daniel's lie wide open.

This son of hers had truly spared no effort to let Charlotte be his mother for these seven days.

However, it did not matter anyway. Soon, she would stop being his mother for real.

Quinn lowered her eyes and softly agreed.

A flash of triumph passed through Charlotte's eyes, yet she put on a troubled front and said, "Levi, your mom..."

Seeing the nervousness in Levi's eyes, she curved her lips and twisted her words around at the last second.

"Your Nanny Quinn has taken care of you for five years. Won't it hurt her feelings if we don't let her join your birthday party?"

Levi froze, a subtle hint of conflict surfacing on his small face.

Before he could speak, Quinn said calmly, "It won't. Don't worry, I won't go to the front."

A son who did not love her was not worth her grief.

After saying that, she did not give him another glance and walked straight into the kitchen.

A short while later, the melodious sound of a piano echoed from the living room.

Once the piece concluded, a burst of applause erupted from the children, accompanied by Levi's excited cheer. "Thank you, Mom! This is the best birthday present ever!"

During this time, the other staff in the kitchen stole sympathetic glances at Quinn from time to time.

She ignored every single one of them, turning a blind eye, and calmly helped prepare the dishes.

The very next second, however, screams and cries echoed from the living room. Before Quinn could figure out what was happening, a small figure slammed into her, sending her staggering backward.

Levi was like an enraged little lion, glaring as he demanded an answer from her.

"Why did you add mango juice to my mom's drink?!"

Charlotte had never expected the father and son to return so suddenly. Pale with terror, she hung up, shoved her phone under the pillow, and forced a rigid smile, pretending nothing had happened."Daniel, Levi, I...""Enough!" Daniel interrupted her in a harsh voice. He no longer had the patience or the mind to listen to her lies."Charlotte, I never imagined you were such a calculating woman!"The man's voice, heavy with suppressed fury, choked back every bit of justification Charlotte was about to utter. She immediately shifted into a tearful, sobbing front, weeping as she begged them."Daniel, I was just speaking recklessly out of anger just now! It was only because I thought I had suffered an allergic reaction today because of Quinn!"Daniel had not expected her to still be making excuses, even attempting to throw all the blame onto Quinn."You're still lying!"He threw the iPad playing the security footage onto the bed before her.
