Chapter 16: Familiar and Unfamiliar

"There you are," Xander said, opening the sliding glass door leading out onto the balcony. "I was looking for—" He followed my gaze and stopped mid-thought when he saw the man. "Who is that guy?"

"That's what I'd like to know." I looked up at Xander and shrugged. "I'm not sure, but I think he may be responsible for the clinic burning down, but I could be wrong." I didn't say that he could have been responsible for the deaths of my friends, although it was what I was thinking.

Xander nodded once. "Come inside. I'll go check it out."

"Xander, don't go alone." I went inside and locked the sliding glass door as he hurried toward the door.

He shook his head. "I'm not. Just stay here and lock the door."

I nodded once and locked the door behind him as he asked when he rushed out.

After pacing for a while in my suite, I wondered if Elias had gone with him. There was only one way to find out, so I headed over to the sliding glass doors and looked out, keeping them locked.
