Slowly Ash climbs into the driver’s side of the vehicle and starts the car. At first there’s an awkward silence, because neither one of us knows the other. So Ash decides to start the conversation.
“That was the best punch I have ever seen.’ At this point I’m too confused to reply because I have a billion thoughts going through my head, but he continues on without any comment from me anyway. “He didn’t even see it coming. I don’t think he was expecting you to punch him even though he was being a douche bag. At first I think he thought I was the one that punched him because he was looking at me and his eyes were screaming bloody murder. You were amazing, I didn’t think he would go so low to punch a girl, but I apparently was wrong about that too. I knew if he hit you that second time you would have got really injured so I jumped in front.” he concludes. This makes me lift my eyes to meet his. This stranger actually took a hit for me, a stranger I don’t even know, took a hit for me! I don’t know what to say to him so I ask “Are you new here in Frostvale? He gives me a sideways glance because he is still driving before deciding he can answer “Yes I am new here. How did you know?” “Well” I say “I have lived here for 17 years and I have never seen a bright red convertible Camaro.” At that answer he just smiles a cheeky, devilish smile. So I say “Who are you staying with?” instantly his smile disappears “Sorry, I can’t answer that right now.” Well that’s interesting I think to myself. Before he asks in a serious tone of voice “Would it be okay if we pull over and have a talk?” What the hell is going on here, something tells me he has a secret. “Sure” is all I say. As Ash pulls the car to a stop, he looks over at me with a strange smile, a knowing smile. Ash reaches out and grabs my hand with both of his and says “I don’t know where to begin, so this might take a while.” I shuffle around a bit trying to get comfortable for this long chat. When he begins he starts with everything I should know about him “My full name is Ash Samuels and I am 18 years old. My family died when I was 16 so I have been living on my own ever since. I have just started college here and I live at number 15 Hero Road, just a block over from where you pulled out.” Well, to say I was expecting that would have been a lie. I am over come with a large amount of sadness for this boy that I am just getting to know. I have a sudden impulse to climb over the centre of the car and sit on his lap. So that’s what I do! Hoping that it will provide a bit of comfort. It’s uncomfortable to begin with because Ash is so tense from sharing just a small part of his being but he soon relaxes. Slowly as if unsure if it is the right move he puts his arms around my waist and rests them on my stomach. His arms are tense to begin with, slightly squeezing me thinking I might pull away, but I don’t I just lay my head back and relax while he explains his mysterious secret. “You may think I’m crazy but please just listen and don’t say anything unless I ask okay?” Instead of saying anything, I just nod my head so he knows I understand. He continues. “It started when I was 15, at first I didn’t understand what was going on I didn’t want to tell my parents in case they thought I had a mental disability. So I continued to go through it on my own until it became too much.” he pauses to take a breath, but before he can start talking again I put my hand up, like you do at school to ask or answer a question. I turn around in his arms so that I’m straddling his waist and look at him waiting to see if he will let me ask my question. He nods his head slightly telling me to continue. “What was it that started when you were 15?” I ask politely. Ash takes a moment to decide if he should answer that straight away. “It was nightmares. They started when I was 15 I would see these most hideous beast, animal’s that can only be found in your imagination. Most of the time I would be in the woods of a mountain called Aurelia Spires and I would have a weapon to kill them with like a bow and arrow or a long sword and a shield. Then a week before I turned 16 I had a dream about being out with my friend in the woods, we were camping there and this beast emerged from the bushes. I still remember the screams coming from my friend as the monster rips him to shreds before I have a chance to do anything. The monster looked like a bear but bigger, it had the head of a reptile and its colouring was so dark; it looked like no light would ever penetrate it. Its feet were the size of small tyres and the claws were like 20 cms long. The only colour on its body was its scarlet red eyes that stared at me knowing that I was defenceless. But the dream didn’t really have an ending it just randomly went black and I woke up in my bed at home. That’s when I realised something was wrong.” He looks at me waiting for me to jump off him and call him crazy but I don’t. He nearly had the exact same dream as me. I think, would my dream had of ended the same way if I had not been expecting its attack, I don’t know, so I say. “Now your said that I think I’ve had the same dream.” Saying this makes him focus on me for the first time. “I thought you were special this morning but I didn’t have enough time to assess you while you were in the car.” What does he mean by me being special, well yes I do look completely different from my family and yes sometimes I think I’m crazy but what does he mean by special? Before I can interrupt his train of thought he continues “During that week before I turned 16 I researched all I could, it wasn’t much but it was enough to survive. During that week I learnt that I am known as a “Ma vista” meaning - with sight - in English. There are only three people in the entire world that can be called this, they have a job and it is to rid the world of these monstrous beasts before they over whelm the world and take over. Many people think 1 of the 3 people that posses this power use it to help the beasts. Right now I am chasing this person but I never knew I would run into the other Ma vista today.” He stops waiting for me to figure it out but I already had reached this conclusion and I believe him. So I nod proving that I understand what he has said, he seems taken a back at how quickly I believed him but he continues without questioning me “It is said that if the two Ma vista’s meet that aren’t evil, that it is the dawn of the new beginning and that those two people will have a life together until they rid the world of the demon beasts and only then, can the world be at peace. If this is accomplished and the evil Ma vista is dead, they will live forever immortal because they are no longer in danger.” he concludes. Wow. “I think we need to do some research…”We continue cooking until we have all the plates full of food, then we call the group in to come and collect there food. While everyone devours there food there is only silence and a few mumbled thank you’s and this is delicious. Its not long before everyone retires to there beds. Ash and I stay up to do the washing before heading to our bedroom. Alex is already sound asleep on the ground. Quickly Ash and I grab our stuff and head to the bathroom. As we reach the bathroom we both stop as we realise that we haven’t had a shower before. Ash hesitates and looks at me. “Are you sure you want to do this now? We could do it once all this mess has blown over. It’s not long now until we will be free to do what ever we want.” I walk over to him and reach around him to turn the shower on. “Yes, I want to do this. Two reasons, one I want to be clean and two I love being with you and we haven't really had a chance to do that. So I’m going to make the most of this opportunity. You never know
Holding Ash’s hand as we walk back I don’t think the full outcome has hit us yet. We both seem to be more shocked then anything. The rest of the group follows behind us, minimum chatter echoes around us. Most of us just ready to have a sleep and wake up to realise that the battle is finally over and that we had won. Walking around the corner to Ash’s house I realise that we are going to have to try and find enough space for everyone to sleep cause his house isn’t as big as my old one, which had at least four bedrooms. Walking to the door I say, “Guys the plan is to get everyone through the shower, so that we can wash the remnants of the battle of us.While that is happening Ash and I will cook dinner as a way to thank you for everything that you have given up and lost throughout this last month.” Everyone voices there agreement. The Josh asks, “Where is everyone going to sleep?” “Ash, Alex, Cooper and I are going to discuss that as you guys all have showers and relax. All the clo
Quickly I head for the door and head out to find Ash. As I walk, I call Blue through the head and ask him if he would be able to teleport here just for a second to see if Cooper can still see them. He says yes and within seconds Blue pops up in the lounge room. Calling out to Cooper I say “Blues here if you would like to come out to the lounge room and see if you can see him.” Cooper replies with an acknowledging grunt before he continue rummaging through his stuff. Hurrying down the hall, I call out for Ash. It takes him five seconds to respond and not long after that I’m in his arms. I stand on my tippy toes and whisper in his ear everything that Cooper had just said. Excitement starts to shine in his eyes as he realises this could actually be the end of this war, we could finally have the winning ticket to this battle. As we stare at each other, we hear a scream of surprise from the lounge room. Looking at each other with worry, we race down the hall to see whats going on. St
Slowly reaching out a hand a tap softly on the door and wait for a response. “Ash, please go away. I know that you are only checking on me because Natalie would want you to, but I don’t want to talk to anyone at the moment. So just go away.” “If thats really what you want.” I say softly, I begin turning away listening to see if Cooper makes a move towards the door. I smile softly to myself when I hear the soft rustling of his footsteps on the carpet as he walks towards the door. He rips the door open and stops dead, his breathing comes out in short sharp breaths as if he doesn't know how to react to my unexpected visit. Slowly I take a step towards him. “Hey Coop...” I wait hesitantly before taking another small step towards him. “Can I come in and talk to you?” He looks around and down the hallway probably checking to make sure that Ash hadn’t been waiting to pounce and try and come into the room with me. “Yeah, I guess.” Slowly he takes a step back into the room and opens t
She lays her head on my shoulder as she tries to stop crying. “Why... why did the master have to do that?” she stutters as she tries to stop crying. “I guess, he thought by targeting the people that mattered to me the most that he could cause some problems with in the group. That you, would blame me for what happened to both of them and that you along with a lot of the others would leave me and Ash to fight by ourselves.” Alex shakes her head, “How could that possibly be your fault, if anything it makes me want to kill the bastard more.” The conviction in her voice startles me and I release a small laugh. “Yeah, he sure is a bastard. Alex I really just wanted to apologise about Nick and Aaron. If I had of been just a bit faster to get there I could have stopped the whole thing from ending like that. I could have shot Nick in the arm or leg. Which would have allowed Ash to grab him and Aaron would not have been injured.” Alex stares at me softly, before her eyes fill with t
Images continue to haunt me as I think about Lyrica and about Harvey and Andrew. They are dying for my cause and they don’t deserve that. Searching through the streets, I continue to come up empty handed, Cooper seems to be nowhere so I decide to walk home. I can hardly walk with the lack of energy that is flowing through my body, theres been to much anguish and heartbreak to push me through to the end of this war. I’ve been fighting for too long, this battle is taking too long and everyone I love is slowly dying. I walk passed my old house, well whats left of it, most of the ruins are ash and there are a couple of small fires that still lay around the area. The other houses that use to stand here too are now piles of rubble that the monsters have created. As I struggle to keep walking towards Ash’s house my body aches. It’s like every pain you could ever imagine happening all at the same time, well except when you go into labour. I don’t think I quite feel that much pain. Image
