Nikolai

I’d been avoiding the house for over twenty-four hours.

After leaving Velvet, I’d driven aimlessly through the mountains until dawn, went back home and got annoyed by the sight of Sylvia looking so fragile, drove back out and then spent the day in town, nursing coffee and trying to make sense of what the hell was happening to my life.

Every time I thought about facing her, about seeing those bruises and the broken look in her eyes, something in my chest tightened until I couldn’t breathe.

So I stayed away.

Now it was evening, and I was finally dragging myself back because I needed a shower, some food, and maybe eight hours of unconsciousness that might pass for sleep.

The plan was to grab some water from the kitchen, take a scalding shower, and crash in one of the guest rooms. Avoid Sylvia’s room entirely. Avoid thinking about the woman sleeping in my bed who belonged to someone else.

The house was quiet as I let myself in through the back entran

Remember the twins Stacy accused Vincenzo of spending time with during their first visit to Nikolai? Yeah—Blair and Blake. How’d you like this chapter? 😅

  • Nikolai’s Tainted Nun    Chapter 129~ Thirty-Six Hours

Chapter 129 ⟿❂⟾ Sylvia ⟿❂⟾ The book in my hands might as well have been written in ancient hieroglyphics for all the sense it was making. I’d been staring at the same page for twenty minutes, reading the same paragraph over and over, but the words kept swimming together. …The protagonist walked through the garden, admiring the roses… Garden. Roses. Kaine’s garden- I slammed the book shut, my heart racing. Even the most innocent words seemed to circle back to him, to that place, to what he’d done. The shower had helped somewhat. Luigi had been so thoughtful, leaving out fresh clothes—simple pajamas that were too big but clean and soft. The warm water had felt like heaven against my skin, even though every touch still hurt. The bruises were fading from purple to that sickly yellow-green color, but they were still tender reminders of… Stop. Don’t think about it. Dr. Martinez had come back around four, taking more blood samples and giving me another injection. Something to h

Chapter 128 ⟿❂⟾ Sylvia ⟿❂⟾ I woke to the sound of a door closing somewhere in the distance. Muffled, but unmistakably real. My body felt heavy, like I was swimming up from the bottom of a deep, dark pool. The bed beneath me was soft, too soft. Clean sheets that smelled like nothing—no fear, no filth, no Kaine. Just emptiness. “…she’s been out for almost twelve hours. That’s normal, right?” A voice. Male. Worried. Luigi. “Completely normal,” came the reply—a woman’s voice, professional and reassuring. “Her body needed the rest. The sedative Nikolai gave her was mild, but combined with exhaustion and trauma, it’s not surprising she slept this long.” “When will she wake up?” “Soon, I think. Her vitals are stable,” she paused, probably to check the pad in her hand. “The sedative should be wearing off soon.” “How soon?” “Any minute now.” Twelve hours. I tried to process that information, but my thoughts felt sluggish, disconnected. The last thing I remembered was Nikolai’s fa

Chapter 127⟿❂⟾Nikolai⟿❂⟾The drive took two hours, during which Sylvia never fully woke but became increasingly restless. By the time we reached the isolated penthouse she was muttering constantly.I carried her inside, noting that the place looked exactly as I’d left it months ago. Clean, stocked with supplies, and completely secure. It had been my recovery base after a particularly nasty business disagreement that left me with two bullet wounds and a permanent dose of paranoia. The bedroom was simple but comfortable. I laid Sylvia on the bed, covered her with warm blankets and checked her pulse. Strong but rapid—her body was fighting the sedative.I stepped into the bathroom and caught sight of myself in the mirror. I looked like hell. Three days of stubble, dark circles under my eyes, and a haunted expression that reminded me too much of Sylvia’s current state.I turned on the shower, letting the hot water wash away the smell of smoke and violence. But I couldn’t wash away the i

  • Nikolai’s Tainted Nun    Chapter 126~ Loud And Clear

Chapter 126 ⟿❂⟾ Nikolai ⟿❂⟾ I carried Sylvia’s unconscious form toward the main entrance, her body disturbingly light in my arms. She’d lost at least twenty pounds since I’d last held her, and the sharp angles of her shoulder blades pressed against my chest like broken wings. Rico was waiting by the front door with three of his men, all of them looking grim. The compound’s surviving guards were zip-tied and lined up against the wall like a police lineup, most of them sporting fresh injuries from their ‘conversation’ with Rico’s team. “Status report,” I said, adjusting Sylvia’s weight as her head lolled against my shoulder. “Five guards total,” Rico said, gesturing to the beaten men. “Two are permanently out of commission, three are having a very bad night but they’ll live. Found four staff members—most of them domestic workers who claim they never saw anything suspicious.” I looked at the terrified women huddled near the kitchen entrance. Three middle-aged women in uniforms, cl

  • Nikolai’s Tainted Nun    Chapter 125~ Don’t Let Him Hurt…

Chapter 125⟿❂⟾Nikolai⟿❂⟾“No,” she whispered. “No, he has to be here. He has to be—”“Sylvia, there’s no child here. My men swept the entire—”“Then where is he?” She was screaming again, clawing at her hair. “Where is Oliver? What did he do with him? Oh God, what if he already—”She couldn’t finish the sentence. She just collapsed against the wall, sobbing so hard she couldn’t breathe.I watched her fall apart, and something twisted in my chest. As much as I wanted to believe it, it was becoming clear that this wasn’t an act. This wasn’t manipulation. This was genuine terror for a child’s safety.“Who is he to you?” I asked again, more gently this time. But Sylvia was beyond words now. She was hyperventilating, her whole body shaking with the force of her sobs. She kept trying to say something, but all that came out were broken sounds.“I did lose my memory, Nikolai,” she finally managed to gasp out between sobs. “But it’s coming back. The treatment—it’s painful, but it’s working.
