AURIELLE

"Yeah, that's what I thought." I scoffed as he still refused to give a response.

I didn't bother turning to look at him again, not wanting to waste another second in his presence. I stormed upstairs and locked myself inside the room, leaving him half naked and alone in the living room. It wouldn't have hurt this badly if I didn't know exactly who Selena was.

Selena wasn't just a random name. That was the name of his first love.

"Aurielle?" Came Victor's voice at my door five minutes later. I didn’t answer him. I could already hear the impatience in his voice.

"Oh, come on, you’re being dramatic. So what if I called another woman's name? At least let me finish first, I don't want to get blue balls!"

"Are you kidding me right now? Fuck you and your balls!" I roared at him.

"You know what? You should freaking appreciate me, no one would want to even touch you, but I let you use your mouth on my masterpiece dick and you're still complaining. Women, tsk."

He didn’t even try to explain or pacify me. He just let out a low, annoyed exhale, and then his footsteps faded away.

I really wasn't okay. I mean, outwardly, I looked like I was holding myself together but I was about to lose my mind if I stayed a second longer. I had packed a bag and booked an Airbnb.

What I needed instead was to feel something that wasn't humiliation, entirely on my own terms. I needed to be touched by someone who actually wanted to touch me, who would look at my face and see me and not some other woman he'd rather be with.

Was it healthy? Probably not. Did I care? I absolutely did not.

Once I settled in the room I had booked, I swung my laptop open.

The gigolo website I found was called something vulgar that sounded sinful just by saying it out loud. The profiles were surprisingly organized. I scrolled with a slightly crazy energy, looking for the right man.

I didn't bother to check their pictures, because I didn't want to be too choosy. I just needed a good fuck for the night.

"Better than feeling sorry for myself." I murmured as I sent the request, paid the deposit, and then sat back and waited.

And waited, and waited, and waited.

I paced the small length of the room, and I checked my phone over and over again. I looked out the window, then I paced again.

I had almost finished a whole bottle of wine out of nervousness.

I was a grown woman who had built a company from nothing. Surely I could handle waiting for a knock on a door from a man who wanted to fuck me, right?

A knock sounded on the door, I fixed my dress and opened it with a smile. Just to see one of the workers staring back at me.

"Sorry Ma'am, do you need anything at all?" He asked with a smile.

I was so close to telling him to turn my cheating husband into a better man, but then I swallowed hard. "No, that will be all, thank you." I shut the door immediately.

As I looked out the window again, this time, I saw him. I could barely see from all the wine in my system but it didn't matter.

The man was standing by a car parked just outside, leaning against it. From my window, I could see that he was tall, easily over six feet.

He was also sporting a head of beautiful auburn curls, buzzed to a taper fade at the sides, a perfect addition to his handsome face. He was dressed simply in dark trousers and a white shirt with the sleeves rolled to his forearms, collar open at the throat. Perfect!

Then he looked up, straight at my window. He was looking at me with open interest, and I found myself downstairs in literal seconds.

I stepped out of the front door and he straightened up from the car, his eyes tracking me the whole way. There was a half smile on his face as though he found the whole thing privately amusing.

"Hi," I chirped. "You're here."

"Oh, am I?" He canted his head slightly to the left as he replied, and I felt a sudden wetness between my legs just listening to him speak, probably from the wine or from the fact I'd been touch deprived.

"Yes." I cleared my throat. "You're late, by the way."

Amusement moved across his face. He looked like he wanted to correct me about something.

“Are you drunk?” He asked with a wide smile.

"No, not at all.” I burped and he nodded, I took that as confirmation and kept going.

“So, here is how this is going to work. I don't need anything complicated, I just need to feel good tonight. That's it, can you do that?"

He looked at me for a long moment, still with that half smile on his face that was starting to annoy me.

"Yeah," he replied. "I can do that."

"Okay, great." I turned back toward the door, willing my heartbeat to behave. "Come in then."

He followed me inside. The door had barely even closed behind him, when I turned around and he was standing so close to me. He was closer than I expected, looking down at me with a crazy amount of arousal in his eyes.

“Uhm, s–so," I stuttered.

He smiled at my effort. Then he reached up and slowly folded a strand of hair behind my ear, as if we had all the time in the world.

"You said you wanted to feel something, am I right?" he reminded me.

"I did say that...." I looked down nervously, refusing to meet his eyes.

"So stop talking." He growled lowly.

I opened my mouth to say something, but he kissed the words right out of my mouth.

AURIELLE I showed the note to Dominic, after I already made up my mind. "What time do we leave?" Dominic asked. “I’m going alone,” I said firmly, standing in the living room with my arms crossed. “This is my fight too, Dominic. Victor wants to talk to me. If I take you with me, he will shut down and we will get nothing useful.” Dominic paced back and forth in front of me, his voice rising with every step. “Absolutely not. You are not meeting that man by yourself. He is dangerous, Aurielle. He already tried to break into the house once, he stole footages, what if he tries something worse this time?” I shook my head, refusing to back down. “I can handle Victor. I lived with him for four years. I know exactly how he thinks and how he operates. If you show up, he will use it as an excuse to play the victim and leak even more lies to the press. Let me do this my way.” He stopped pacing and faced me directly, his eyes intense. “Your way almost got you hit by my car that day,

AURIELLE The doctor discharged Elena two hours later with a folder of instructions, a follow-up appointment card, and a warning that she shouldn’t be left alone for long stretches while her memory and her body both recovered. Dominic carried her to the car himself, even though she could walk, and she let him, her arm looped through his as she’d never stopped being entitled to it. I drove behind them in the second car Marcus had brought, alone, my hands gripping the wheel tighter than necessary the entire way home. By the time we pulled into the driveway, Elena was already laughing softly at something Dominic had said, her head tilted toward him in the passenger seat like three years hadn’t passed at all, like I didn’t exist somewhere behind them watching it happen. “You still drive too fast,” she said as he helped her out of the car, her hand lingering on his arm a beat longer than necessary. “Some things never change, I guess.” “Careful,” he said, steadying her. “Let’s get you

AURIELLE "Mr. Frost, she is awake now." The Doctor announced. Dominic pushed the door open slowly, and I followed behind him, my mind still stuck on the word wife, turning it over like it might mean something different the longer I looked I kept denying it. Elena was sitting up against the pillows, an IV taped to the back of her hand, her face pale but her eyes sharp the moment they landed on him. Before either of us could say a single word, her face broke into a smile so genuine, so relieved, it made my chest hurt. “Dominic.” She reached for him, both arms out, and he crossed the room almost without meaning to, letting her pull him into a hug. “I missed you so much,” she said into his shoulder, her voice thick with emotion. “I kept thinking you wouldn’t come, that you’d be too busy, but you always come for me, don’t you?” Dominic went rigid in her arms, his eyes finding mine over her shoulder, wide and lost. I had no idea what to do with my face, so I just stood there near the

AURIELLE I snapped my head towards the door and the head cook staring back at me. I quickly hid the file behind my back and stood up straight, trying to look like I belonged there. AURIELLE I stood frozen in the driveway, the phone still pressed to my ear like a lifeline I wanted to crush. Victor’s voice slithered through the speaker, laced with that familiar cruelty. “But I’m not done with you yet.” My blood boiled. I opened my mouth to unleash every curse I’d held back
