Chapter 7

Author: Serein M
Zephyr’s POV

Elysia's rejection was a silver blade through my heart.

But I didn't leave. I couldn't.

The next morning, I was back outside the Winterfang headquarters.

I didn't try to get close this time. I just stood on the street corner, watching, waiting for a glimpse of her in a window.

"Alpha Zephyr? You're still here?" A guard approached me, holding a steaming cup of coffee.

"Alpha Alistair asked me to bring you this."

He handed me the coffee and a document.

Elysia’s POVOne year later. Everglow City. The lights of the Continental Alpha Summit glittered. It was the largest gathering of pack leadership on the continent.I stood on the main stage, facing hundreds of Alphas and resource magnates from every major pack."In the past year, through precise strategic acquisitions, the Winterfang Pack has successfully integrated thirteen failing packs and their territories," my voice was clear and strong. "This portfolio includes the core assets of the now-defunct Silver Moon Pack."A ripple of shock and awe spread through the hall. The Silver Moon Pack. The empire Zephyr had been so proud of. Now just a small part of my portfolio."These integrations have brought the North enough strategic resources to outfit three new legions," I continued. "We are redefining the laws of pack survival and expansion."The applause was thunderous. I scanned the audience, meeting countless gazes of admiration and respect.A year ago, I was a heartbroken Luna, betray

Zephyr’s POV"Prep the jet!" I roared at my assistant. "Now!""Alpha, the Elders are demanding you handle the crisis here first—" he stammered."I don't care about the crisis!" I shoved past him and ran for the parking garage. My phone was ringing off the hook. Elder Aldric.I declined the call.Elder Silas. Declined.Everyone was trying to stop me, but I didn't care.An hour later, the private jet was in the air.My hands shook as I dialed Liam’s number."Alpha? Are you insane?" His voice was laced with shock. "The Elders and our allies are in an uproar! Everyone is asking where Luna Elysia is!""Do whatever you have to. Keep them stable," I said, my voice hoarse. "Tell them I'm bringing her back.""You really think that's possible?" Liam scoffed. "Zephyr, do you have any idea what Elysia means to this pack? She is the only thing connecting us to the three largest mining alliances! She’s gone, and our three most critical moonstone quarry projects are about to collapse!""That's why I'

Zephyr’s POVI didn't sleep.I sat in my office, the coffee on my desk long gone cold. I couldn't drink it anyway. After I found Elysia gone last night, I made hundreds of calls. Sent countless texts. All of them were met with silence."Zephyr, you look like hell," Chloe said, walking in with a fresh cup of coffee. She moved behind me, her hands reaching for my shoulders."Let me help you relax...""Get away from me!" I shot up from my chair, shoving her hands off me.The cloying, sweet scent of roses choked the air. Chloe’s Omega scent. It made my stomach churn.I used to find it comforting. Now, it was just nauseating."Zephyr, what's wrong with you?" she cried, tears in her eyes. "I was just trying to help...""Don't touch me," I said, my voice ice. "Get everyone in the conference room. Now."An hour later, the room was filled with the pack’s top leaders.I picked up the cooperation agreement with the Gray Mist Pack, the one about sharing the Black Iron vein. The more I read, the da

Zephyr’s POVFirelight danced across Chloe’s apartment.I was gently rubbing her ankle. The swelling was almost gone."Feeling better?""Mmm, your hands are so warm," she murmured, leaning back against the sofa with a contented look. "That salve Elysia made works wonders."Her name was a splash of ice water. I froze. It had been three hours since I left home. Normally, Elysia would have texted or called by now, just to check in.Tonight, there was nothing. Not a single message. That was wrong."Zephyr, what are you thinking about?" Chloe asked, sensing my distraction."Nothing." I grabbed my phone and checked my messages.Empty.Not a single text from Elysia.I frowned and dialed her number."The person you are calling has their phone turned off..."Turned off?Elysia never turned off her phone.A Luna is always reachable. It’s the law of the pack.I dialed again. Same automated message.A knot of unease tightened in my gut.I pushed through our bond, searching for her. Nothing. Just a

I picked up the cooler and walked to the kitchen.Zephyr followed, a satisfied look on his face as he watched me take out the herbs.“I knew you’d help,” he said, planting a soft kiss on my forehead. “You’ve been so much more understanding lately.”Understanding.The word felt like a slap.“I’m going to take a shower,” Zephyr yawned. “Let me know when the potion is ready. I’ll have someone deliver it.”I nodded. After he left the kitchen, I turned on the garbage disposal.Moonlight Orchid, Silverleaf, Nightingale Bloom—one by one, I fed the priceless herbs into the machine. The grinding roar swallowed them whole, shredding them to pieces before they were washed down the drain.I washed my hands and went back to the bedroom.Zephyr was already in the bathroom, the sound of the shower drowning out everything else.I lit a scented candle and started applying a face mask.If he wanted to believe I was slaving over a potion for another woman, I’d let him.Half an hour later, Zephyr walked o
