Molly’s POV

I don’t see my husband for the rest of the night, but that isn’t even what gets me more pissed. It is the fact that when I walk into my room after having such a long day, my mouth opens when I take it in.

Amanda's child seems to have had a battle here, with the pillows thrown on the floor, the sheets all tangled up, and the drawers holding my certifications open, with pieces of paper on the floor.

A gasp escapes my lips as I take in all my hard work over the years, reduced to nothing. Tears sting the corner of my eyes as I go to one knee, picking up a tiny piece of paper with a part of my name on it.

I don't hear the door open, but after a minute, I feel my daughter's tiny hand on my shoulder. I try to sniff my tears in before looking at her. But it doesn't work.

Her fingers catch a bead of tears before it rolls down my face.

"Are you in pain, Mommy?" Her tiny voice breaks something inside me.

“No,” I whisper, shaking my head. “Mommy just got something in her eyes. Will you take it out for me?”

I stay put while she blows over my eyes, while my head tries to work fast on the next step to take. I cannot lock anyone out of the room, because then Jason will say I do not care about the health of the child.

“Mommy, Lila isn’t sick,” Eva murmurs, shaking her head.

"Why, honey?" I grab her arms, gearing her to look into my eyes. "Did Lila tell something?"

“She said my Daddy will no longer be my Daddy, and that he will send us out of the house. Mommy, did you and Daddy fight?”

I need to have a talk with Amanda. She should watch what she tells her child because there is no other place Lila would have heard that from.

“Eva, Daddy isn’t sending us out, okay? This is our home. Lila does not know what she is saying because she’s ill.”

“But she’s not ill!” Eva whines, her eyes going glossy again.

“Okay,” I murmur, pulling her into my arms. “Don’t worry. Let’s get you to bed. You have to get up early for school tomorrow.”

She takes my hand, and I turn her around, heading out of the room. I hear my phone ringing downstairs, but I ignore it, needing to get Eva to bed first. It is probably someone from the hospital, and that can wait.

My daughter comes first.

After settling her in, I return to the living room. My phone has stopped ringing, but I retrieve it anyway, dialling the last number on my call log.

“Doctor Cross.”

"Doctor, we have been trying to reach you," one of the two medical interns under me chirps into the receiver. "We have a kid here in need of an expert, and all the doctors are currently busy with surgery. Doctor Olivia is out of town currently."

“I’ll be right there.”

Sighing, I rush into the bedroom, ignoring the mess in there to change out of my scrubs. Dressed in a pair of comfortable slacks and a tee, I grab my keys and head out, calling the nanny to come watch Eva since there is no one at home.

When I get to the hospital, I let one of the doormen pack my car while I race in. My lab coat is in my office, and going there will cost me time. So, I head to the waiting room first, where I meet my intern.

“Status?”

“Five years old. The mother says the baby has an echo in her heart, but I couldn’t find anything. Should we conduct an ECG?”

“Not yet. Let me talk to the patient. In the meantime, get the other intern to come in. I need to explain something about conducting an examination upon the suspicion of an echo.”

She nods and scurries away quickly while I proceed into the room with the open doors. I see wild blonde hair first, the face buried into the shoulders of another person.

A man.

When I walk in further, my feet halt very close to the door, taking in the scene. Life must have decided to throw me hardballs today, because it just keeps getting worse.

The duo must have noticed someone else in the room as they look up at the same time. My husband narrows his eyes while Amanda scoffs, wiping the fake tears off her face.

“What are you doing here? Came to gloat some more about how healthy your child is?”

I take a deep breath, my medical vow and personal feelings coming into conflict.

"How is she feeling now?" I question, pushing myself further. I stop by her bedside and press two fingers on her neck. But suddenly, frail arms push me away from the side of the bed. My arms launch out to break my fall, but I crash into the drip stand.

“Stay away from her!” Amanda roars, her eyes wide with rage. “Jason, tell your wife to get her hands off my child.”

"Molly!" Jason whispers harshly. "Stop making a scene right now. Even if you don't care about anyone else, you should care for the life of this child. You have a child, too, Molly. What if she were the one lying here on the bed?"

I shake my head as I try to stand upright. "I don't care that she's your mistress' child, Jason. I am here to fulfil my medical duties to my client. Let me conduct my examination. And take Amanda out of the room."

Amanda scoffs. “Now, you’re playing doctor? Please.”

I shake my head and move towards the bed again. Amanda plants herself in front of me. “Don’t make me call security on you.” She gazes out through the windows. “Doctor, anyone out there? Someone is trying to kill my child.”

“And where is the doctor we were told would be here minutes ago?”

I tilt my head and raise my hand. “Here.”

“Stop doing this!” Jason yells. His nails dig into my arm as he tries pulling me towards him. My interns rush in at that minute, taking in the scene frantically.

“Doctor Cross!”

My body feels weak. My fingers are locked in cold. My body is shivering. Then I try opening my eyes to understand what is going on. Yet, my eyes spin. But one thing is Bold and unshivering, “The cold eyes of Richard. Staring deep into my soul”“Does my brother know about it?”Ask Richard.“About what?” I reply winking my eyes and rolling my fingers with my vest in a guilty conscience “Molly, you are expecting a baby”“Well, I'm not.”“Molly this isn't a time for denial, you are. The doctor confirmed it to me. And Jason has to know about it as soon as possible”Richard declares, while he's set to turn around to open the door. Maybe he wants to take it upon himself to tell Jason.“The baby is yours!” I spill bluntly. Bowing my head. Maybe I have to admit the truth to him. I guess I can't hide it forever.Richard stands still. Shocked, and in disbelief. “What did you just say, Molly?”“I am carrying your baby Richard.”“That night. That night at the party. You were drunk and weary.

Richard is stunned. He's dumbfounded. He feels like power is being taken away from him.“Jason, I don't have a good feeling about this, it is clearly not a good idea. Jason, this isn't good at all. Listen to me, brother.” Richard keeps persuading Jason to see why involving a new investor in Molly’s Dreams is irrelevant and that the particular investor is greedy. Still, Richard is ignorant about the whole situation.“Son, let's go ahead with the signing process. This boy over here isn't ready to see this amazing opportunity staring in our faces. Please, let's go ahead”Madeline continues to belittle Richard in the presence of everyone including his staff. “I guess this is the right time to get everyone stunned,” I mutter, expressing my dark shades, which obviously make me look mysterious. I also wear a mischievous smile. I push against the door heavily. Every eye is on me. The staff, the staged “investor”, Madeline; her eyes are filled with surprise and fear. She's trembling in terr

  • No, Jason your friend is hotter   Chapter 23

I am caught between doubt, suspicions, secrets, and confusion about how to defend Richard. It's been two months since I eavesdropped on Richard and Madeline's secret conversation about stripping Richard of his rights in Molly Dream’s group of companies. I'm indecisive on saving Richard today. “If I don't act fast, Richard will lose everything he has ever worked for to the vile and dark mother and son” I stare at my reflection in the mirror, gently massaging my tummy, feeling Richard's seed's warmth growing in me. I'm feeling nauseous and extremely weak. Work has been hectic, and Jason is gradually unmasking. But I guess today, he will realise he's not even an inch smarter. “Madeline isn't done plotting, she's still in the business of putting me in my place, which I have to be careful of, but she's the least of my worries at the moment. “I guess she has clocked my smartness, and she's being cautioned” I say, still rubbing my palm around my tummy as gently as I can. Nevertheless

The mansion feels like a golden jail, its stillness is more audible than the troubles it obscured. Every glassball wall appears to resound Jason's scarcity, every lustre singing my loneliness. Amanda’s perfume is floating slightly in the corridors, stronger than my own presence in his life.“Though I don't care” I move through the passageways quietly, cautious not to provoke an alert.Jason’s driver is waiting at the gate, his hand on the car door, his expression professional but stiff.“Ma, sir ordered me to drive you anywhere you desire.”I nod my head in disagreement with a tactful beam. “No, thank you, I'll get along. Tell him I must get some air.”The driver isn't relenting because he knows the consequences. “But madam—”“I’ll manage,” I cut in softly, walking past him. I can not allow Jason or anyone else to survey my activities. Today, I need space—distance from Amanda’s shadow, from Richard’s cold indifference, from Madeline’s scheming presence.A cab pulls up, the driver p

The Sun shining gently in the garden, sprinkling its edges in Gold. The trees glitter with dew while the fountain sings firmly. I'm dressed in red. Richard complimented my beauty the last time I did, so why not? I follow Jason to the garden, while Richard is already sitting, chilling with a glass of red wine, as he awaits us. His sunshades pierce sparks across the sun, and his muscular body surpasses the man holding my hands. “I wish he were Jason"We are all seated while both brothers exchange pleasantries. Again, he's acting like he doesn't see me. But I'm used to that now. I'm acting that too. Jason encores as soon as he notices. “Someone is dressed to kill today” he says with a sneer. ”Richard, doesn't she look like a rose trying to outshine the sun?”Richard's eyes are colourful but heavy, his eyes twitch towards me and reply. “Molly doesn't need the sun, she outshines it already”I chew my lip at his words, heat rising to my face. Jason, oblivious, bursts into laughter.“O

“Mom, at this point we have to be strategic. This family has a reputation to maintain. Please understand it, do it for me for my sick” Jason continues pleading with his mom, giving her reasons to apologise to her. She keeps protesting against it..“What will people say the Madeline is apologising no no this is a stain on my principles. It stinks my principles. Who did this to me? Who did this to me?” Mother continues wailing again.Madeleine finally decides to yield to Jason’s request. “ OK, Jason I am doing this for you and you alone. That reminds me we haven’t spoken about the updates from the investors when I was sweeping Richard out of the company.?”The moments have been waiting for this here. It’s finally time to talk about Richard.“ Yes Mom, in a month or even less the investors will be in the office without Richard's knowledge. And he will be swept out of the company for good. We just have to exercise patience while we play the game to the end for now. Let’s call for a dwell
