ETHAN'S POV

I heard the air leave Sophia’s lungs as she dropped to her knees, the sound like a twig snapping underfoot. “What…” she managed to whisper, voice thin and ragged, each breath a fight. Her hands trembled against her thighs; the panic in her chest was almost visible.

“How can that be possible?” she asked again, as if asking would force an explanation into being.

That was the thing: no explanation made sense. Nothing fit the neat, controllable pattern I’d always worked so hard to build around myself. Today felt cursed, a day when every single rotten thing in my life unspooled at once. The news, the investors, the humiliation, it all arrived on my doorstep like a mob with torches, and the one person lighting the match was a woman who had once been smaller than an afterthought in my life.

I moved through rehearsed outrage, the kind of anger I’d perfected over years of negotiation and public relations: loud, immediate, designed to intimidate. But inside the roar, there was s

  • No Second Chances, Ex-husband   CHAPTER 0239

ROMAN'S POV I stood there in shock, staring at Elizabeth in front of me. For a moment I couldn’t even move. My hand stayed frozen on the door handle, my shoulders stiff, my breath slightly stuck in my chest. I wanted to speak, but no words came out at first. My brows pulled together on their own, because honestly… I never thought Elizabeth or any woman in her right senses would do what Elizabeth just did. I thought I had seen it all. From betrayal, to finding out I had a child, to watching that same child be taken from me, to fighting tooth and nail just to locate her and bring her back home. I’ve been pushed mentally, physically, emotionally — I’ve been broken and pieced back together more times than I can count. But I never expected something like this. Elizabeth stood right at my door, biting down on her index fingernail, staring at me with that lust-filled look that she didn’t even bother to hide. And what made it worse, what made it far more shocking was the fact that she c

  • No Second Chances, Ex-husband   CHAPTER 0238

ROMAN'S POV I slowly turned back around, my brows raised as I didn’t expect to hear what I thought I just heard. There was a pause, a fraction of a second where the words seemed to echo in my mind, forcing me to refocus. “What did you just call me?” I asked, my voice firm, yet holding just enough incredulity to let her know that what she had said was entirely out of line. “Daddy, is it wrong to call you daddy?” she asked, her tone laced with an almost deliberate innocence, like she had rehearsed the question in her mind to gauge my reaction. “Why would you even call me daddy, when I’m not your father?” I asked, my tone sharpening slightly. It was a simple question, but it carried a weight, an edge I didn’t bother hiding. “Well, I just wanted to see what Aria feels when she calls you that,” Elizabeth said, her words falling carefully into the space between us, precise and calculated. “What? Aria is a child, my child, which last I checked you’re a grown adult,” I said, my voice ri

ROMAN'S POV “No, not at all. I’m sure you saw the other vehicle that passed you just before you stopped here. That was Lauren. I’m standing here because I was seeing her off,” I said, my voice steady, calm, carrying just enough casualness to hide the tension under the surface. “Seeing her off?” Elizabeth asked, a little confused, her brow slightly furrowing, eyes narrowing ever so subtly as if she was trying to read my tone, to figure out whether I was serious or joking. “Yes. Didn’t she inform you that she wasn’t going to be around when you came?” I asked, letting my gaze linger just long enough for her to feel the weight of the question, to sense that this wasn’t a trivial matter. “No, she didn’t. I texted her a few minutes ago. She should have told me, but she didn’t. Maybe she must have forgotten,” Elizabeth said, her words carefully chosen, casual in tone but a little too precise. I noticed it, the slight uptick in her voice when she mentioned Lauren not being around. It wasn

ROMAN'S POV "Babe,” the faint voice said. At first, I pretended not to hear it. My dream was too nice, too peaceful, the kind that makes you want to glue your eyes shut so you don’t lose a single second of it. I forced my mind to drift back toward whatever fantasy it was creating, but the voice returned, a little louder. “Babe.” And then the final call came, sharper, firmer, cutting clean through the last pieces of sleep lingering in my head. “Roman.” That tone alone told me exactly who it was. I let out a long, tired breath and slowly cracked my eyes open. The morning light hit my face in a way that annoyed me instantly, but as my vision cleared, Lauren came into focus standing right beside the bed with a look that made me wonder if I was staring at an AI or a real person, she looked perfect. I knew I was going to be seeing her every day, but I don’t think I can get used to seeing her this beautiful She tapped my arm lightly, then bent down and placed a small kiss on my fore

ELIZABETH'S POV “Guess like everyone has a first for everything,” Jessica said, her tone casual. “Well, I'm not part of everyone,” I replied instantly, almost scoffing. “And you're right, I am definitely not going to give up on Roman. Not after I know that he’s rich enough to use a one-in-a-million diamond ring to propose. If I get this guy, my family and I would turn into billionaires overnight.” I said it confidently, almost proudly, because saying it out loud made it feel even more real. The thought alone made my heart beat a little faster. “Now that’s the Elizabeth I know,” Jessica said, I could hear the pride in her voice, like she just succeeded in dragging me back into my real senses. “Now, what are you going to do about the whole risky situation? Because don’t forget, the best possible chance you have at getting him is by seducing him. There’s no way you can get him to fall in love with you.” “Why not?” I asked, raising my brows slightly, genuinely curious why she spoke w

  • No Second Chances, Ex-husband   CHAPTER 0234

ELIZABETH'S POV I slammed my hotel door so hard I was certain the staffs downstairs must have heard it echo through every floor. The loud crack of the wood hitting the frame wasn’t even enough to calm the heat burning inside me. My entire body felt tight, like every muscle wanted to explode at the same time. But I wasn’t done there. Not even close. I still had so much steam boiling under my skin that if I didn’t release it, I would combust. My eyes landed on the nearest object, one of those decorative vases hotels keep around to make a room look expensive. I didn’t even think twice. I grabbed it with both hands and slammed it against the floor with every ounce of rage in me. It shattered instantly, pieces scattering across the room like tiny sharp reminders of the moment everything went wrong. I ran my fingers aggressively through my hair, pacing from one end of the room to the other. My breath was coming out in harsh, uneven bursts. My chest felt heavy, like it couldn’t keep up w
