Celeste’s POV

“What are you doing here? Looking for work as a sales assistant?” Vanessa asked, eyeing me up and down. “No offense, sweetie, but that skirt suit isn’t going to cut it. I don’t think you have the necessary fashion sense.”

I rolled my eyes at her.

Of course, someone in a gaudy haute couture gown would think a simple yet elegant outfit was a fashion nightmare. All because it didn’t cost a kidney to buy.

“How did you find me, anyway?” she asked, glaring at me with a hand on her hip.

“Maybe you shouldn’t post your whole life on social media if you don’t want people to find you.” Grace said patronizingly, as she walked in behind me. “It’s not supposed to be a diary.”

Vanessa glared at her, hands balled into fists.

“So you’ve opened a fake account to blame me for your failed career, and now what? You’re stalking me?” she asked, her eyes darting wildly between us.

I tutted, shaking my head at her.

“Sure, you could accuse me of registering a fake account.” I said with a mocking

Damien’s POVVanessa twirled in front of the mirror in yet another over the top dress. “I can already imagine their faces when I walk into Maximilian’s company party.” She sighed with bliss. “Everyone’s going to be awestruck.”My lip curled back in disgust. She was so self absorbed, nothing like Celeste’s quiet elegance and charm.“You look stunning, ma’am,” the sales assistant said, smiling flatteringly. “But if I may, you looked like a celebrity stepping onto the red carpet at the Met Gala in that crystal gown earlier.”I muttered under my breath. “The more expensive one you mean.”The saleswoman gave me a healthy dose of side-eye before turning her smile back at Vanessa. My airheaded girlfriend pouted. “You’re right, but I love this scarlet gown, too.”“It’s always wise to have a backup outfit for an important event,” the sales assistant answered. She nodded at her reflection, a hand running hungrily over the dress. “I should be prepared for any unfortunate wardrobe malfunctions.

Damien’s POVI collapsed back into the armchair and stared up at the fitting room’s hanging lampshades with unseeing eyes. What kind of runt was I in that Vanessa thought she was my superior? The sound of sniffling snapped me back to the present.“Bon-Bon, come here.” I called, opening my arms. Her eyes were red as she wiped away her tears and leaned against my chest listlessly. Vanessa had been upsetting her more frequently, and it was making me lose my patience. Besides my daughter’s wellbeing, I needed her to be happy so she would choose me in the custody battle. If Celeste found a way to support herself financially, then Bonnie would be the last hold I’d have over.I couldn’t let my wife walk away from me forever.“Daddy, why is Auntie Vanessa so mean? My hands aren’t dirty, see?” she asked, holding up her palms. I gently pushed her hands down and wrapped her in a hug.“Vanessa has a little baby kicking inside her stomach. Wouldn’t that make you feel grumpy?” I asked, stroking th

Vanessa’s POVI strutted back toward the fitting rooms of the high-end boutique to try on the next round of clothes. The sales assistant followed behind me, her arms laden with an array of dresses she thought would all look fabulous on me. She was correct, of course, but I still wanted to try them on for the fun of it.We passed racks stocked with the latest haute couture, each piece marked with an eye-watering price tag. Finally, I was living the high-class life I deserved.Damien looked up from the armchair he was waiting in and groaned.“You’re trying on more dresses? Come on, Vanessa.” he complained. “Is it necessary to buy such expensive clothes?”I scoffed, sarcastically asking. “What do you think, Damien? Should I wear rags to Maximilian’s company party so you can save a little money? Be serious.”“Auntie Vanessa is taking too long,” Bonnie whined from his lap. “I wanna eat and play in the arcade.”The sales assistant stepped in with a smile. “Thank you for being so patient. C

Third-Person POVAfter chatting merrily and celebrating with champagne, Ryan carried the empty glasses to the sink. He fetched a mop and rolled up his shirt sleeves.“You ladies can go wash up first while I clean here,” he said, setting to work.“Oh, don’t mind us,” Grace said, smirking at Celeste, who’d been distracted by the sight of his forearms. “We’re just admiring your… hard work.”The designer flushed, mortified at being caught ogling her assistant. The slight veining in his toned arms was ridiculously hot. She nudged Grace with an elbow.“Not this again!” She complained hushedly. “I thought you were done with your teasing.”Grace smiled devilishly before calling. “Oh, Ryan, you missed a spot here.”Celeste snatched the mop from his hands and shoved it into Grace’s. She shot daggers at her business partner as she pushed Ryan towards the bathroom.“Actually, we’ve got this handled.” She said a little breathlessly. “Go clean up first.”“No, Celeste, you–” he started. But she cut h

Ryan’s POVPanic slithered into my chest. I ran a hand through my hair to mask my hesitation. Celeste stared up at me expectantly, a delicate smile on her lips that made my pulse stutter. There was no way she could have found out about my deal with Alice, right?“I’m not sure why James suddenly confessed.” I said, shrugging casually and schooling a nonchalant expression on my face. “Maybe he felt a pang of guilt for what he did and finally listened to his conscience.”Grace narrowed her eyes at me, her suspicion clear as day. I swallowed on impulse, then berated my body for doing everything in its power to show my guilt.“If I may interject,” she said, taking the paper microphone from Celeste. “The butler’s confession did seem coerced. You didn’t roughen up the old man, did you, Mr. Edwards?”My little game to ease Celeste from her daze was quickly backfiring. I chuckled as I gently plucked the makeshift microphone she held under my chin and unrolled the design draft. “Grace, do you
