Damien’s POV

“You asked for more time, Mr. Kent, and we have given it to you, but the shareholders are losing faith in Imperial Aurum Group.” Mr. Brown, the head of the board of directors said, “They’re losing faith in you.”

I gritted my teeth and put on a smile.

“Then allow me to show you why they have nothing to worry about.” I said as I stood to give my presentation.

This was a crucial moment for my company and career. I’d been coasting on empty promises and lies while the shareholders became more antsy.

If I didn’t pull this off, my company would crumble to ashes.

“After an extensive investigation into our falling profit margins, I have identified two major factors–”

I froze in front of the display panel.

My phone blared throughout the boardroom from my place at the long U-shaped table.

Miss Wilson hurried to end the call.

I cleared my throat. “As I was saying, I have ident–”

My secretary seemed to collapse into herself as it rang again. I strode up to her and snatched it from h

Celeste’s POV“What use is looking so fine when you won’t try to get us a discount?” Grace grumbled playfully as we entered the studio after our meeting.Ryan looked up from where he was packaging the last order I’d finished.I placed my handbag on the table, still furious that he’d touched me so intimately in the storeroom.Still furious that I wanted it. Wanted him.“The only thing stopping me was his wedding band.” I said, pouting. “That supplier was wealthy and charming–it’s a pity.” Grace’s eyebrows shot up. “Really? How did I miss that?”It was simple–the supplier wasn’t married. But I wanted Ryan to believe that I wasn’t stuck pining over him, regardless of my actual feelings.“Well, let’s hope the next supplier is a single.” Grace said as she headed for the door. “I need to head out to run interviews. Catch you guys later.”She shut the front door and took the light atmosphere with her.I cleared my throat as I pulled my hair into a bun. “There’s only one order left for today

Vanessa’s POV“For the protection of the public and the integrity of the judicial process, the Court orders that Vanessa Abrams be remanded without bail.” My heart plummeted through the floor of the courtroom as the judge gave her verdict.“No! You can’t do that!” I screamed, panic climbing up my throat. “Give me bail! I can’t stay locked up for something I didn’t do!”The judge gave me a stern look, and I shut my mouth. I had already been warned multiple times to behave myself in court or face additional charges. My state issued attorney stood. “Your honor, please take Miss Abrams’s pregnancy into consideration and allow her to await trial under house arrest.” The judge studied me before shaking her head. “This Court cannot, in good conscience, release a defendant accused of such a violent and deliberate act with video evidence. Her erratic behavior raises serious concerns, and the risk of flight is substantial.”Life drained out of me. I shook my head, tears streaming down my face,

Celeste’s POV“Why are you asking me about Crown Luxe? How would someone like me–just starting out–get a position at such a prestigious company?” Ryan asked, voice unreadable.“Robert Hughes seems to think you should be working in management there, so I can’t be that off base.” I said coldly. “Do you have a connection at Crown Luxe? Is that how you got me Maxmilian’s business card?”He stilled, but he seemed coiled with energy, ready to explode.“I’m right, aren’t I?” I said, numbed with shock. “Then what are you doing here, Ryan? Why would you work as my assistant when you have better opportunities?”He screwed his eyes shut and ran both hands through his hair, his stoic expression breaking. My heart pounded in my chest as he took a deep breath, as he came to a decision. What if I were right? What if he left?I suddenly wished I could take my speculation back–I wasn’t ready to let him go.“I lied,” Ryan said, his hands dropping to his sides. “I was trying to impress Michelle’s parents

Celeste’s POV“Damn, girl,” Grace said appreciatively as I walked into the studio. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you’ve secretly started seeing someone.”I couldn’t fight the blush that crept up my cheeks.Halfway through dinner, I saw Ryan and Michelle leaving the restaurant together. My obsessive brain imagined what they’d be doing together once they got to their apartment, and it broke my heart. I decided that I wasn’t some desperate and decrepit loser pining after a taken man. I was still young, hot and wanted to feel good about myself.“Thanks, Grace, but I’m dressing for me.” I said, placing my bag at my design table. “I might as well show off my figure while I have it, right?” “Yes!” She smiled in approval. “You have it, so flaunt it, love. It’s great timing too.”“Why? What are you up to?” I asked, eyes narrowed at the mischievous glint in hers. Grace shrugged, feigning innocence. “Do you think Ryan will help us strike a deal with Hughes Industries to supply us with

Damien’s POVMy foot tapped restlessly on the cafe floor as I listened to a well-seasoned nanny drawl about her years of experience and discipline approach. I kept checking my watch, worried I wouldn’t have enough time to prepare for the massive board meeting today. Hiring staff used to be much quicker. I’d flip through CV pictures like a catalogue and choose the most attractive woman. I learned the hard way that employees are supposed to be functional, not decorative.Hosting these interviews was the last thing I wanted to do after Celeste’s cruel punishment last night, but Bonnie’s safety came first.“Thank you, Sophia.” I said when I was satisfied with her competence. “Can you start today? I’ll have my assistant send you the school and home addresses so you can fetch her today.”“Without a trial? Isn’t that a bit sudden for your–” I didn’t have time to chat. My company was under fire for plagiarism, and sales were at an all-time low. This board meeting was my last chance to show o
