Grace’s POV

Something was wrong with Gideon.

I didn’t want to admit it at first. I kept telling myself he was just tired, or stressed, maybe overwhelmed with the sudden jump in workload after Jenny… left.

My mind didn’t want to land on the truth, so it tiptoed around it, inventing softer explanations.

But the signs were everywhere.

He’d disappear for hours without telling me where he was.

Come back with that too-bright smile, like he’d just wiped something off his face.

He’d get irritated if I asked normal questions. Where were you? Did you eat? Are you okay?

Then, two hours later, he’d be the sweetest man alive, rubbing my back, making me tea, telling me he adored me.

Whiplash, wrapped in charm.

And I told myself I was imagining it because chaos had already torn a hole through Rosemary and through Celeste’s heart.

I didn’t want to add my own mess to hers.

But pretending didn’t stop the cracks from getting wider.

It started with his absences. Late nights and early mornings.

Celeste’s POVThe weekend was spent so well that I almost didn’t want to go to work the next morning.I didn’t even realize when I had started considering Rosemary as work and not art that I created. This was worse than I thought.Still, I got up early in the morning, already missing Ryan loitering around my apartment.I dropped Molly off at her art studio, but before she went inside, I knelt down beside her.“Do you think we should go visit the school next week?” I asked her. We’d talked about it but I just needed one last conversation. When Molly nodded and skipped inside, the first thing I did was calling Vivian.“I cannot believe this, Celeste,” Vivian whispered. I could see tears in her eyes through the screen. “I miss her so much but when I hear how happy she is with you, I know I made the right decision.”I smiled at her warmly, “She misses you too, Viv. Just yesterday she drew a picture of you and Steven. I’ll send it to you as a keepsake.”“I’d appreciate that. Things have bee

Celeste’s POVI didn’t plan to leave the house on Saturday.Honestly, I barely planned to leave my bed.I felt guilty for neglecting Molly the past couple of days, so I’d asked Ryan to stay and spend time with Molly on Friday evening. He crashed in the guest bedroom because Molly said she wanted to spend more time with him. We’d kept our distance of course, because Molly was here.Come to think of it, we hadn’t done anything more than make out in the few, short moments we got to ourselves.Well, that would have to change because I could feel the distance between us.We weren’t growing apart, no, but every moment I spent with him, not pressed into his side, the more that invisible string between us tightened, making me want to give it all up just to spend some time in Ryan’s arms.God, I was turning into a hopeless romantic.Around ten in the morning, there was a knock on my bedroom door. Not the sharp, impatient kind Molly does when she wants breakfast, even though she’s perfectly capa

Celeste’s POVI don’t remember unlocking the door to Rosemary Atelier. One moment I was outside, staring at the brass handle, the morning light reflecting against the glass… and the next, I was inside, walking through the studio like a ghost.Every corner hurt.Jenny’s desk was empty. The pegboard where she used to pin her chaotic, colorful marketing drafts were blank. Her favorite mug with the chipped rim, washed, dried, stacked neatly by Rachel because she couldn’t bear to throw it away. And the resignation letter.I kept unfolding it, smoothing it, rereading the same shaky handwriting until the words were burned into my skull.Thank you for everything. I would’ve stayed forever if I could.Forever.She had written forever as if she truly believed she was meant to stay by my side. As if she wasn’t supposed to leave with her eyes red and her shoulders trembling from guilt she didn’t deserve.I sat at my desk, the resignation letter open in front of me like a wound that refused to clos

Vanessa’s POVThe moment I stepped out of the executive elevator and into the marble corridor of Crown Luxe, I felt like the building itself bowed to me.My heels clicked with slow, purposeful rhythm, queenly, even if my ankles protested under the weight of my pregnancy.A few weeks left until delivery, and yet no one dared suggest I rest. Why would they? Queens don’t take sick leave.Melissa hurried behind me, carrying the embossed folder pressed to her chest like sacred scripture.“Stop fussing,” I murmured without looking back.“Y-yes, Ms. Abrams.”She always squeaks when she’s nervous. Pathetic. But useful.Outside Maximilian’s office, I smoothed my hair, adjusted the soft fall of my maternity dress, and allowed the smallest, sweetest smile to curve my lips. This part mattered. The performance.Maximilian Edwards valued power, but he valued obedience even more.I knocked precisely once then entered.Maximilian was behind his desk, skimming through reports with that predatory calm h

Ryan’s POVThe elevator ride to the top floor felt longer than it should have.Crown Luxe always had a weird effect on me, like the walls themselves were judging me for ever daring to walk out of them.Mr. Davis stood beside me, hands folded neatly behind his back, posture flawless as always. But there was something different about him now. A looseness, king of a quiet defiance. And he had chosen me.When the doors opened, the receptionist stiffened slightly at the sight of the two of us together. Word traveled fast in this building. Suspicion traveled even faster. My father’s office door was open when we approached, which was already unusual. My father hated openness. Anything ajar was an opportunity for someone to listen. He looked up from his desk the second we stepped inside. His eyes went straight to Mr. Davis.“Why are you with him,” he said sharply, “instead of waiting where you were instructed?”I didn’t give Mr. Davis a chance to answer. He had already risked enough.“He’s wit
