“Ah, I knew that was you!” Faith said brightly.

She rose from her table with practiced grace, striking in her ivory silk blouse and blazer.

Her circle of colleagues paused mid-laugh as she walked off, but her attention stayed fixed squarely on Noah Bamford.

She came in like a gust of wind he hadn’t prepared for, arms outstretched, pulling him into a hug.

Noah stiffened at the contact, though he forced a polite smile. Across the table, Ava was beyond pissed. Faith gave no sign of noticing—or caring.

“Wow… I’ve seen your pictures and clips on the net and TV, but nothing beats the real deal,” she said glossily, practically ignoring the woman seated beside him.

Ava let out a quiet sigh, sipping her wine without saying a word.

Faith noticed her immediately—the sleek black dress, the quiet, manipulative glare.

Ava Marshal.

Nora’s old friend turned rival. She was one of the few people Nora allowed close enough to be called family after years of battling in pain. But it hurt Faith to se

ϖϖϖϖϖϖNoah sat hunched on the cold bench, his face buried in his palms as a heavy sigh slipped through his lips.“Ah…” he muttered, choking back the burn of tears. If dull, straight-talking Faith could see through him… Then what about Liam?Liam had been sharp and intelligent. What if he had noticed too?The way Noah’s eyes stayed too long on Nora. The way his heart raced whenever she laughed.Another guilt.Another silent punishment was added to the list he carried for years.Nora meant everything to him. She always had.Even now, ten years later, he’d still do anything to see her whole again. To hear her laugh like she used to.But not with him.Whenever she drew close, all he saw were ghosts—Liam’s warm smile and the kids’ wild laughter. Nora, barefoot in her favorite floral dress, dancing in the kitchen to an old jazz record. All gone. That memory was a knife, twisting deeper each time she looked at him like he was supposed to replace what she lost.Like he could. It had been ten

ϖϖϖϖϖϖThere was something about Faith that always unsettled Noah.Maybe it was the way she carried herself—calm, calculating, always one thought ahead. Or maybe it was the way she said his last name whenever things were about to spiral out of control.Mr. Bamford.Every time she used it, something old twisted inside him, a wound that had never fully healed. Now, she was doing it again. Same tone. Same look in her eyes. And Noah couldn’t help wondering…What the hell is wrong this time?He stared at her, searching her face, trying to read past her neutral expression. Finally, with a weary sigh, he asked, “What do you—”“Has Nora experienced any serious emotional distress lately?” Faith cut him off, her voice clinical. “Anything that could have triggered anxiety, overthinking… maybe even a mental relapse?”Noah blinked, taken aback. “Wait, what?” His voice rose, defensive. “And how exactly does that matter to her treatment tonight?”Faith's composure broke. “It matters, Noah. Everythin

ϖϖϖϖϖϖDr. Faith heard the yelling before she even reached the hallway.Nora.Of course, it was her…shouting like she was being marched to a firing squad. But even Faith wasn’t ready for the sight that greeted her.She stepped out of her office in pale pink scrubs. Blinking in disbelief. When Noah had called earlier, she’d assumed he was exaggerating; clearly, he wasn’t.There he was… Noah Bamford, in a black tuxedo, sleeves rolled just enough to reveal sharp veins and male arrogance. And on his shoulder? Nora. Flailing, furious, one hand gripping him for balance, the other swinging like she meant to take his head off.Faith raised a brow, biting back laughter. If only I had my phone… This was better than any TikTok drama. She crossed her arms. “Wow. You two didn’t tell me you’d joined Hollywood. What’s this one called? Beauty and the Bastard?”She burst out laughing just as they reached the office door.“FAITH!” Nora screeched from his shoulder. “Tell this lunatic to put me down now!”

ϖϖϖϖϖϖThe elevator dinged again. As the doors slid open to the hollow, dimly lit garage, Nora was the first to move. She tore her gaze away from him and stormed out without a word, her heels snapping hard against concrete.“I’ve allowed this crap to go on long enough,” she muttered, furious. “I’ll pretend none of this ever happened.”She didn’t get far.Halfway across the garage, Noah’s hand clamped around her wrist again.“What the hell is your problem!?” She snapped, twisting around and slapping his arm. “Let go of me, you arrogant son of a bitch…”He didn’t even blink. His eyes skimmed ahead, cold, before he nodded toward the far end of the lot.“My car’s this way.”And just like that, he started dragging her along again, as if her protests were background noise. They stopped in front of a gleaming black SUV… spotless and cold. Just like him.“Get in,” he said flatly.“No way in hell,” Nora shot back. “I’m not getting in your car. I don’t know where the fuck you’re taking me, and

ϖϖϖϖϖϖThe entire floor descended into chaos the moment the door slammed open.Heads jerked up from desks. Fingers hovered over keyboards. Conversations died mid-sentence.Every single staff member turned toward the corridor, stunned into silence as Noah Bamford, the CEO, stormed out, gripping Nora's wrist like a man possessed.“What the hell is happening?” someone gasped from the graphics team.“I… I don’t know,” another stammered, eyes wide as they watched the scene unfold in slow, messy disbelief.“They’re—are they holding hands?” Someone whispered.“No. He’s holding her. I thought they hated each other.” another said, frowning. “Didn’t he once tell the board she was a regrettable boss?”“That’s what I heard too,” came the murmured reply. “So why is he dragging her through the office like she’s… property?”No one had an answer. Everyone had theories.“Is it a lovers’ quarrel?” someone offered, almost hopefully.“Don’t be ridiculous,” another snorted. “That man barely acknowledges h

ϖϖϖϖϖϖNoah’s date with Ava hadn’t gone the way he’d hoped. Not even close... Not by a mile. From the moment they left the restaurant, there had been an awkward silence between them.Noah tried to be present, to smile, and to enjoy her company like before. But his mind had already checked out.The thoughts of Nora circling in his head dug deep, dragging his focus elsewhere until Ava caught on, and not just her.Even nearby tables must have noticed his absentmindedness. She didn’t push and didn’t even ask. Just gave a tired smile and quietly ended the night.A part of Noah was angry at Faith for disturbing his date and for bringing up Nora. For saying her name like it still mattered. But another part of him, the part he didn’t want to inspect too closely, was relieved.Relieved, he’d run into that nosy doctor, the one who reminded him of his promise.Liam had been more than a best friend. And Noah had sworn to look out for Nora.To protect her. Whether she wanted him to or not. Whether
