Chapter 40

SARAH

As soon as we got downstairs, Jayson handed me his phone. "Call your mother." He nodded.

I dialed my mom. When she answered and I told her I was safe, she could barely talk.

They were at the packhouse in ten minutes.

Shane busted through the door. "Sarah!"

I smiled. "Here." I called from the common room.

H saw me and ran full tilt into me knocking us to the floor. "You never leave me again!"

Jayson came out of the dining hall with a cup of coffee to see the commotion. He saw us on the floor giggling like children.

Shane got up and helped me up. He wiped his eyes and tried to act all tough. "If you do that to me again, I'm going to knock you out." He shook a fist at me.

"Oh please." I scoffed. "I can take you out with one hand behind my back."

He hugged me again.

"Hey, brat." Maddie was crying. "Don't scare me like that. It causes wrinkles you know."

I laugh through the tears that start to fall. The three of us hug.
