Chapter 1

Author: Little Bunnie
When the emcee stood on stage and asked whether she would marry me, a faint sense of nervousness crept into my heart, and I could not stop myself from looking toward Celia Winters' first love, Shane Quinn, who was sitting in the audience.

The confident smile on his face added a hint of gloom to my heart.

It was not until Celia said "I do" that I finally let out a sigh of relief.

However, she soon said, "I have a song that I want to dedicate to my groom."

Although this song was for me, her gaze was affectionately fixed on Shane in the audience.

I felt bitter.

The emcee handed the stage over to Celia.

When the music started, it felt as if I had fallen into an endless pit of despair.

I recognized this song.

Shane had written the lyrics and composed the music himself. The song was called "Not Marrying the One I Love".

She sang the song for eight minutes, and it made me think of the eight years I had spent with her.

I had had a crush on Celia since college. It had been a full eight years from college to starting work. During that time, she was constantly entangled with her first love, and I tolerated it. She was forced to marry me for her family's company, and I tolerated that as well.

Now, looking at my furious parents in the distance and at Celia and Shane gazing at each other with deep affection, I suddenly wanted to put a stop to it all.

Perhaps sensing that something was off with me, Celia put down the microphone and slowly approached me. "Zane Lindell, forgive me. Shane said that it's the last time. I won't be in contact with him anymore."

She spoke as if they really would not be in contact anymore if I forgave her now.

I knew Shane knew he could not marry Celia, so he wanted to humiliate me this way. At the very least, this wedding would be a nightmare for me for years to come.

Looking at Celia feigning affection, I felt disgusted for the first time. I took a small step back to distance myself from her and casually tossed the ring on the ground. "Since you didn't marry the person you love, marry him now. He's right there in the audience." I held the microphone, my voice echoing throughout the place.

The people around us murmured among themselves, and Celia's face showed a fleeting moment of embarrassment. "Zane, stop it. It’s our wedding today."

"You’re realizing that now? I don't want to marry you anymore. You're free. Go marry whoever you want."

After saying that, I looked at Shane. "Shane, congratulations, you’ve won. I don't want this woman anymore. I wish you a happy marriage and many children."

Of course, I did it on purpose.

Shane was a somewhat well-known music producer in the industry; he used his status to squeeze into our circle. Now, I wanted to kick them both out.

I casually threw the microphone on the ground, took off my wedding coat, and turned around to leave. I also pulled my parents away before leaving.

My parents did not scold me on the drive home. My mother patted my back slightly, silently comforting me.

Having a crush on Celia for eight years was just too painful.

We belonged to the same circle and attended the same university. Celia would never have gone through with this arranged marriage were it not for the Winters family's financial crisis.

I admitted I was a bit despicable, but I genuinely thought I had won Celia's heart after two years of dating. Even if she was willing to ignore me every time for Shane, I was still willing to wait for her.

My family did not want to get involved with the Winters family. After all, they were not good enough to marry into our family. However, my parents indulged me because I was willing.

If I still chose to forgive her today, I would not be the only one humiliated.

However, I still went to the hospital on the day Celia gave birth. Since the pair had made an appointment with the private hospital before, she still gave birth here.I arrived at the attending physician's office early with the information and a paternity test from Shane's illegitimate child. The Winters family was immediately thrown into an uproar.I also took the opportunity to hand that voice recorder to Celia.Desmond immediately barged into the ward and pulled Shane outside. The latter had been standing by the bedside, preparing to see the baby.Shane was pushed to the ground. He looked at Desmond with a pitiful expression. "Dad, what are you doing? Why won't you let me see the baby?"Desmond grew even angrier and slapped Shane hard. "You b*stard! You cheated, deceived my daughter, and caused our family to go bankrupt. I'll beat you to death, you b*stard. How did I let my daughter marry you in the first place? Zane was such a wonderful son-in-law. It's your fault! It's all yo

"Celia, wake up? Are you an idiot? Melissa has been at odds with you for so many years. Why would she pay just because Shane said so? Is she a sucker like you? Celia, if I had known you were like this, I would have just watched you die when we were in Iceland."I thought Celia would have some reaction, but she unexpectedly just froze on the spot. "What did you say? You saved me in Iceland back then?"I looked at her in confusion, "Didn't we still watch the northern lights together? How could it be someone else if it wasn’t me?"She took a few steps back in disbelief. "How could it be you? Wasn't it Shane who saved me? Why weren't you by my side when I woke up?"I understood when I saw her reaction. She was seriously injured at that time and was unconscious. She had no idea at all that I was the one who saved her."We were both seriously injured. I was in a coma in the hospital for several months. How could I possibly be by your side?"Only then did she sit down on the couch in fr

However, I did not expect the Winters family to actually spend a fortune to hire the best lawyer in the city for Shane. They even spent a considerable amount of money on pulling strings for him. Moreover, there was no definite evidence to prove that Shane had a direct connection with this matter. Several million dollars were spent, and the police were at a loss.Celia even came up to me. This time, she knelt in front of me, her eyes red. "Zane, I beg you to spare Shane this time. The prison environment is bad and I'm pregnant. The baby can't live without a father."Looking at her stricken appearance, I was a little curious. "Celia, why did you agree to marry me back then if you loved him?"She explained somewhat awkwardly, "My family threatened me with death, so I had no choice but to go on a blind date with you. But Zane, these things are all my fault. Please don't attribute them to Shane, okay? Just consider it as me begging you."The pent-up emotions in my heart dissipated. I n

In the following month, Shane became completely famous in the circle. Everyone knew that the Winters family had a new son-in-law.Even Celia spent a fortune at auctions for Shane. They were suddenly at the height of their popularity.Having learned the news, I sat opposite Melissa Gordon. "You and the Winters family have been at odds with each other for so many years. What? Have you developed feelings for each other?"From the moment I knew the Gordon family helped the Winters family, I felt that it was not right. Melissa had always despised Celia. It would be great if she did not add insult to injury at a time like this, so how could she possibly help her?"Mr. Lindell, are you here to seek justice for your ex... fiancée? Are you that willing to be a simp?"I raised my eyebrows slightly, unperturbed by her remark. After all, that was indeed the case before."How could that be? I refuse to be a homewrecker. I'm just curious... who gave birth to Shane's illegitimate child?"Melis

I lay in the hospital for more than two months before being discharged. However, the first thing I learned after being discharged from the hospital shocked me a little.Celia and Shane had made a high-profile announcement of their engagement. Moreover, Celia's father, Desmond Winters, frequently brought Shane to events in the circle, seemingly allowing him to join our circle.I was somewhat surprised that the Winters family also received funding. It went without saying that this funding had something to do with changing the Winters family's opinion of Shane. However, Shane's family was not well-off to begin with, so he could not have been able to afford it.What I found interesting was that the Winters family's funding was provided by the Gordon family.I had someone carefully investigate what had happened to Shane in the past two months, especially in terms of his relationship with the Gordon family. Before the investigation results came out, we received an invitation from the

She even kicked me after saying that. The rapid loss of strength and blood sent waves of panic through my body.I thought with reluctance that I would not let Shane off the hook if I managed to survive this. When I opened my eyes again, I woke up in the hospital. My mother was by my hospital bed, her eyes swollen from crying. The dark circles around her eyes broke my heart. She burst into tears of joy when she saw me wake up. "Zane, don't worry. The police have already taken skin tissue from your nails. The culprit will surely be caught."I did not tell my parents that Shane was the mastermind. I would deal with him myself.I gently stroked my mother's hand. "Mom, let me handle this matter myself. I've grown up now and don't want to cause you any more trouble."My mother nodded with tears in her eyes. "By the way, Zane, Celia has been waiting for you at the hospital for several days. We didn't let her see you, but she probably knows you're awake now and is waiting outside the wa
