XXI: Worship

Jade is still asleep when my father withdraws his claws from her neck. He looks down at her with a frown, then back up at me, looking confused as fuck.

“Well, there’s no doubt she’s Kaia Volkova; a few scattered memories, and I sense Lilith’s blood through her veins. But…” he trails off and gets to his feet. “Other than those memories, I see nothing.”

I cross my arms. “Nothing? As in, you can’t pick up that she’s on the enemy’s side?”

My father shakes his head. “No; I can’t see anything. Other than her memories from before she was taken, there’s nothing. It’s all dark and cold, as if I’ve plunged my hand into a freezer. Absolute darkness and the stench of sulphur.”

“Sulphur because of her demonic side,” I murmur. “So, this means our union will be called off, right?”

He nods. “Most definitely; I will also inform Azura about this. But since Kaia is family, she can stay here until the problem with the BloodCrest pack is sorted.” He says, then picks up Jade, or rather Kaia, and ca
