Chapter 4

Author: Sesame King
Just then, our team leader, Adrian Scott, came out of his office.

"What's going on?"

Rachel wiped the corner of her eye.

"It's nothing."

While she insisted it was nothing, she couldn't look more aggrieved.

Adrian looked over at me.

I gave a brief, clear summary of what had happened.

He frowned.

"Just don't have her help sign for your packages in the future, isn't that simple enough?

"How big of a deal can this be?"

I tried to explain:

"The issue isn't receiving packages—she keeps using my name—"

"Enough," he cut me off.

"Don't let personal conflicts affect your work.

"The clients are coming this afternoon. You both need to manage your tempers."

Rachel kept her head lowered.

Yet the corner of her mouth curved up into an extremely faint smirk.

I caught it, and suddenly felt like I didn't even want to bother explaining anymore.

I turned back and sat down.

I uploaded yesterday's screenshots, the platform complaint ticket, the chat history, and the audio recording to my cloud drive.

In the afternoon, two more packages arrived.

The recipient was still me.

A camera lens worth over seven hundred.

A laptop worth almost two grand.

Chloe called me from her desk.

"Nicole, are these two not yours either?"

"Nope."

"Should I reject them then?"

"Please do."

Ten minutes later, Rachel charged over.

"Who gave you the right to reject my deliveries?"

Her face was red with rage.

I stayed seated in front of my computer without moving an inch.

"My name is on the label. I guess that gave me the right."

"Those items are mine!"

"Then have them rerouted to you."

She glared at me with pure fury.

"Today is the last day of the sale for that laptop!

"If it gets returned now, buying it again will cost me three hundred more!"

"None of my business."

She stared at me as if I were an alien.

"Nicole, do you think only of yourself?"

I almost burst out laughing.

"You bought things using my name.

"I just refuse to take on the risk.

"Who's the one only thinking of herself here?"

Her voice suddenly spiked in volume.

"What risk?

"You signed for them a dozen times before, and what did that ever cost you?"

I stared right at her.

"If there's no risk, why didn't you put your own name?"

Once again, Rachel couldn't come up with an answer.

In the end, she turned and stormed off in a rage.

The next day, she started going downstairs to collect her packages herself.

She stopped speaking to me altogether.

The bullet comments never went away, though.

"She's planning to make her move early."

"In the original plot it was a week later. Now it's three days."

"Her boyfriend told her to finish processing these latest orders and move to another platform."

"MC, watch out for the returns!"

At five-thirty that afternoon, Chloe pushed a delivery cart past my desk.

Sitting on top was a familiar camera box.

I stood up instantly.

"Is that being sent out?"

"Yeah."

She looked down at her records.

"Rachel's return."

I walked over.

Printed boldly in the sender column of the return label was my name.

My vision went dark for a second.

"Who filled this out?"

Chloe was stunned.

"It was already printed when Rachel brought it over."

I took a photo immediately.

Then I called the delivery man, demanding a specific note:

"Actual sender is Rachel Stone, not Nicole Sullivan."

Hearing the commotion, Rachel rushed over from her desk.

"Are you ever gonna stop?"

I held the return label up in front of her face.

"My name as the recipient.

"Now for the return, my name is still used as the sender.

"Rachel, what on earth are you trying to pull?"

A flash of panic flickered across her face.

Quickly, she replaced it with righteous indignation.

"The system just defaults to the original recipient!

"It's not like I filled it out on purpose!"

"Then change it."

"It's already printed. How am I supposed to change it?"

I turned to the delivery man who just arrived.

"Can it be changed?"

He nodded.

"Just cancel and reorder the pickup."

Rachel's face went pale.

Gritting her teeth, she filled in her own name right in front of me.

I watched her as she wrote it down.

goods. This was the first time she'd put her real name on a return label for one of these high-value items.

When she finished, she slammed the pen onto the desk.

"Satisfied now?"

I said, "Keep it this way from now on."

She let out a sneer.

"Have no worries.

"I won't let you touch any of my packages, even if you beg."

Yet at ten o'clock that night, I received a text from an unknown number.

"Dear Ms. Sullivan, regarding your multiple recent post-sales return applications for high-value items, our risk control department needs to verify details with you further. Please keep your phone line open."

I stared at that line of text for a long time.

Then, I took a screenshot.

There was that sentiment again.I realized then, the fact that Rachel had turned out the way she did wasn't surprising after all.I lowered my head and let out a faint laugh."The day the brand representative and the police came to the company, the entire office was staring at me."Our team leader told me to hand over my access badge."Rachel stood beside me crying, claiming she knew nothing all along."If I hadn't discovered it in advance, if I hadn't had the audio recording, or the complaint ticket, or the delivery logs…"Do you think I would be fine now?"She didn't speak.I continued:"It was always my name she used."Every single delivery, she wanted me to verify and sign on her behalf."Whenever she returned something, she tried to have my name listed as the sender."Those weren't careless mistakes."Those were choices made over and over again."She sobbed even harder."But she's young yet."I raised my eyes to stare at her."So am I."That rendered her speechless. Why should you

During the investigation, the company also conducted an internal review.Administrative regulations were completely overhauled. From then on, all high-value private deliveries had to be signed for in person. The front desk would no longer accept shipping information that persistently misused other employees' names.Returns had to register the actual sender. After the new regulations were issued, Chloe told me privately:"Should've been like this ages ago."I thought nothing of it back then."Who knew how bad loopholes could be misused."I looked at the policy email and suddenly thought of those who told me not to fuss over it.Before something landed on their own shoulders, everyone thought it was just a favor.Adrian formally apologized to me later on.Not just a casual remark at my desk.Instead, he called me into the meeting room."My handling of the situation before was flawed."He spoke very slowly."The situation came up suddenly that day, and my first reaction was to contain the

In the afternoon, I contacted a lawyer, had the post preserved for evidence, and filed a complaint with the platform shortly after. At eight in the evening, my lawyer helped me draft an extremely concise statement. It didn't disclose any private details of the case.Just three points were mentioned.First, I never participated in any suspicious purchases or post-sales returns.Second, upon discovering that my identity had been misused long-term, I filed a record with the platform and contacted the police at the very first opportunity.Third, regarding the untrue content circulating online, I had preserved evidence of the false claims circulating online. An hour after the statement went out, the post was deleted. The next day, the account that posted it was deactivated.Yet the matter didn't end there. The police quickly tracked down that although the post wasn't made by Rachel herself, it came from a computer frequently used by Luke.Rachel was called in for questioning once again. She

By now, I thought the hardest part had already been behind me.Turned out I had underestimated Rachel once again. Two days later, a post suddenly went viral on a local industry forum. The title read: "Colleague was jealous of me buying luxury goods and dragged a personal conflict all the way to the police station. She almost destroyed me."The author didn't use their real name. And yet the situation was described in extreme detail."A design firm."Female colleague, around thirty years old."Usually keeps to herself."Suddenly acted off after seeing my frequent purchases of digital products."Took the initiative to help me sign for packages for a few months, then turned around and claimed I tried to frame her."She even secretly recorded audio and investigated my accounts."Causing me to get suspended."The final line read:"Moral of the story is never befriend jealous folks. They may act like they care about you, but behind your back, they're collecting evidence to use against you."T

I stared at her.Suddenly I found the whole thing to be quite laughable. From the moment things started, this was the first time she admitted to any wrongdoing. Not because she realized she had almost destroyed someone's job and reputation. But because all the evidence pointed squarely at her.She had no other choice.I told her:"I don't want anything from you."The authorities will handle this."She jerked her head up."Come on Nicole, we've known each other for two years!""And?""Was I not a good friend?"She sounded as though she had caught onto something."When you first joined this team, who showed you around?"When you worked overtime, who brought you meals?"I even got you a gift on your birthday!"I looked right at her."Which is why I signed for your packages a dozen times over."Have I not repaid your favors?"Do you expect me to take the fall for fraudulent compensations as well?"She froze. For the first time, I saw our so-called past friendship with absolute clarity.A f

The police investigation progressed faster than I had imagined.Three days later, I was called in again to give a statement. This time it wasn't in the company meeting room.It was at the police station.Rachel came as well. And there was another man.He looked about twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old, wearing a black jacket, with a very gaunt face.I had seen him on Rachel's Instagram before. Her boyfriend, Luke Simmons. The two of them had been together for three years.Rachel used to brag often about how good he was at business."His mind is razor sharp."Now I knew where the man put his sharp mind to use.The police had retrieved a portion of the platform's records.Out of the orders, the majority were placed through Rachel's own account.A small portion came from Luke's account. The payment cards belonged to the two of them respectively. All seven refunds or compensation payments had gone directly into their own payment accounts. Not a single cent had ever reached me.Most cru
