The first thing Myra realised when she woke up the next morning was how her head throbbed. It was the first time she had thrown up after a few glasses. She normally had a good tolerance for alcohol. Maybe she hadn’t been sleeping well these days because of guilt, so she reassured herself.
It was a mystery how she had even got home. Would the badass Lionel even give in and give her a lift home? That was hardly possible. He didn’t know where she lived. Or had it been Lillian? She scratched her head, sorting her dishevelled mound of hair. She had to be an emotional mess right now in the mirror.
She had changed clothes, even if she had no memory of doing so. Probably one of the girls had helped her.
Did she create a ruckus last night at the party? Had she got drunk easily and fled the scene, she
Three Hours LaterThe sound of squeaking metal woke Myra, giving her some time to view the unfamiliar surroundings around her. White walls, a patient bed.She was in the hospital. What had just happened? An elderly uniformed nurse with her long hair in a bun wheeled a trolley with covered plates of food into the room, greeting her with a polite smile. Her name tag glinted as she spoke, taking Myra away from her thoughts.“Miss, we are serving lunch now. Do you prefer chicken or fish? She observed the nurse briefly while on the verge of pouting. She didn’t fancy either, being the picky person she was. But while being a patient, she had little choice.
She was somewhat relieved that the caller was Hart, and immediately answered.“Baby, are you fine?”“Yeah, I have just seen the doctor.” She tried to sound as natural as she could. She didn’t need Hart to worry about her unnecessarily.“I won’t be able to see you tonight. I have a proposal that needs to be submitted first thing Monday morning. And tonight, I have a meeting with-”He didn’t complete his sentence, but Myra felt strongly that Hart was keeping things from her. Something he had promised her not to in the past. But she couldn’t blame him, after how she had kissed Jake behind his back. She also knew that his job was extremely important to him.&
“What time is it now?”She was half-awake, listening to the depth of his voice. He had stayed with her for hours, while Hart was nowhere to be seen. She understood he was busy as he had spoken over the phone, but it made her rethink his promises. There was a more important issue she kept in check. She had to tell him the truth of her decision of political marriage as soon as possible. But how would Hart react knowing his girlfriend would marry someone else? But how could she get it off her chest?Jake repeated his question. She picked up her cellphone. Apparently Jake’s cellphone had run out of juice, and it didn’t share the same charger with Myra’s cellphone, which was an older model. It didn’t surprise Myra that the screen show
A young woman in a trendy attire clung onto Hart’s arm, giggling cheerily as she strolled casually in the waiting hall of the hospital. The way she stared at Hart was unmistakable, Myra observed. Worse, Hart did nothing to stop her. The woman must have a deep liking for Hart. Her long curls bounced as she muttered something inaudible to Myra. Everything about the lady made her feel so insecure, especially how Hart returned her looks.“Baby, if we’re done with your observation, shouldn’t we get back to the office to get some actual work done?”He was actually smiling! Myra realised, feeling the bitterness in her heart. Even though Hart wasn’t that person she truly loved in her heart, it made her feel sad he was with someone else in this manner. Should she let him go? Or should she
“Myra, are you all right?”Hart’s six-feet tall figure towered over Myra as he watched her rub her eyes. They were still red and puffy from her tremendous tears earlier. He observed her hurriedly folding a slip of paper that she was holding into a small square and stuffed it under the tablecloth. Fortunately, Hart didn’t notice her hasty actions.“What are you doing here, Hart? How did you know I’m here?”Hart helped her into a comfortable position on the sofa. His lips moved, charming as he normally was, but thinking of how he was with Waley earlier just made her feel disturbed. He wasn’t the person she was waiting for.Things were complex between him and Waley. He couldn’t explain it in such a short time, but he cou
They spent the night together huddled in the blankets, under each other’s arms. She felt a lot better with Hart soothing her, and this time, she was ready for him to take her. Whatever he had previously with W didn’t matter anymore since now. She had agreed for them to resume their relationship. She cast aside the random thoughts of Jake and sought to fill her mind with their past encounters together in Bali. Had he never picked her up then, she would have never met such a great guy. She wouldn’t have ever spent the night with Hart or had those thrilling experiences. Hart was someone who bore his way deep inside her heart.Even if her heart wanted Jake, she had already let Hart inside, and she would only get guiltier if she let him go. She allowed Hart to take off her dress, slipping it slowly over her shoulders, before unclasping her bra.
“Myra! Where have you been? I was worried sick when the hospital called me and said you were missing!” Sierra’s concerned voice rang out as Myra entered the door of their apartment. It was the next morning after she and Hart had made out at the old mansion for the first time.“Ah, I didn’t see you there, Hart,” Sierra seemed surprised, as if she was expecting someone else. Myra’s hand tightened around Hart as she sent him the signal to disregard Sierra’s thoughtless words.Beside Sierra, Teos was looking dishevelled, giving Myra the message that they had just finished another hanky-panky session.“Hart, give me a moment.”Hart took his seat on the couch a
“Hart, can we talk?”They had just had a sumptuous dinner cooked by Sierra. Hart found that Myra’s mental condition was a lot better than the night before. He glanced at her soft eyes, pondering if everything could return to how it was before. If only he could hit the reboot button on the computer and they could return to those times in Bali, where it was just the two of them….No Jake. No Waley. Just the two of them, running….He had to do what he could to forget about Waley. No matter what happened between them, he had promised Myra first. His late mother had often taught him Chinese idioms, and one was, ‘a man’s word is equivalent to great treasure’. This was an idiom that existed for hundreds, if not thousands, of years, and his mother had hoped any promise from him would be absolute. What was between Waley and he had to be just an obsession. If she didn’t resemble Milla, then maybe he wou
