Xander’s POV

The whiskey burns on the way down.

It’s not the first glass tonight. Or the second. Probably not even the third. The bartender stopped counting an hour ago, now he just refills when I lift my hand.

The bar’s half-empty, a graveyard of neon lights and forgotten laughter. Music hums low from a corner speaker, some old song about love that didn’t survive the night.

Fitting.

I swirl the glass, watching the ice melt. My reflection stares back, hollow eyes, bruised pride, and the kind of exhaustion that no amount of sleep fixes. The kind that starts in your chest and eats its way out.

“Another?” the bartender asks quietly.

I nod. He pours without a word.

When you’ve been publicly humiliated, betrayed by your own silence, and turned into the headline of every sports site in North America, the world stops looking you in the eye.

Everyone knows. Everyone saw.

The forbidden affair. The mother. The betrayal.

  • OFF LIMITS: HIS BEST FRIEND'S MOTHER    Xander's New Hockey Team

Xander’s POVIt's been a month since the opening of Olivia's clinic and it has been an eventful month. We were fully unpacked and living in our private duplex in a family oriented neighbourhood. Married life has been good so far, with lazy mornings, faster afternoons and quiet nights. I loved my wife with all my life and I couldn't ask for anything more. But I would be a liar if I didn't say I thought about hockey during the better part of my day. I missed the game, the cold arena, wearing skates, loud teammates and our over serious Coach Miller.Hockey was basically my life and it still is. I thought I could really do without it but I can't . Since the time i was fired from the Chicago Blizzards, I have been itchy to get off the ice. Now is the best time to call Coach Hartley who offered me a spot in the Timber Wolves team, although I wouldn't be a captain there obviously , but at least I got to play the game I cherished with all my life. This morning something just clicked in my h

  • OFF LIMITS: HIS BEST FRIEND'S MOTHER    A NEW BEGINNING

Olivia’s POVIt's been two weeks since our wedding and our honeymoon. I and Xander have also moved out from his penthouse. We decided that if we want to start a family, the penthouse was not the best option. We both opted for a four bedroom duplex in a quiet estate where we could raise children if they started coming. Between Xander and I, there was an air around us that have shifted after the wedding. We were more relaxed, and I would say a bit matured, looking forward to what the future held in store for us. Today, I was adding another milestone to my life. I was officially opening my own independent physical therapist clinic. It was going to be a meroable day, Xander had been a great part of opening this clinic and I couldn't thank him enough. I glanced at the clock, noticing it was almost time to head over to the place. Xander came up behind me, his arms wrapping around my waist as he kissed my neck. “Ready for your big day, Mrs. Hayes?” he asked, his voice full of pride and h

  • OFF LIMITS: HIS BEST FRIEND'S MOTHER    THE WEDDING NIGHT

Olivia’s POVThe limo ride back to the hotel felt like a dream and also a lifetime. My body still hummed with the events that occured during the day, Cassandra's outburst, insults she threw at me, and my fainting spell. Now, all that doesn't matter anymore, at least for now. I can't believe that I and Xander just got married, I feel so alive with his hand currently wrapped on my thigh. The car suddenly stopped and I realized we have arrived at our destination.Xander gently helped me out of the car, his strong arm around my waist, and we walked through the lobby hand in hand. The concierge nodded discreetly, handing over the key card without a word. In the elevator, he backed me against the wall, his lips brushing mine in a soft, teasing kiss. “Mrs. Hayes,” he murmured, his voice low and husky. “I’ve been waiting all day to get you out of this dress.”I smiled, my fingers tangling in his tie. “Patience, Mr. Hayes. We have all night.”The suite was stunning, with it's floor-to-ceiling

  • OFF LIMITS: HIS BEST FRIEND'S MOTHER    THE WEDDING DAY ( PART THREE)

Xander’s POVMy heart stopped the second Olivia’s knees gave out. One moment she was nodding weakly at the priest, her face very pale and the next she was falling down. I caught her just in time, my arms wrapping around her waist as her body went limp against me. “Liv!” I shouted, as panic took over my body. Her head fell backwards, eyes closed, and for second my vision blurred. Then suddenly, shocked gasps, paparazzi's noise, it just erupted at once.“Mom!” Ethan yelled, right beside me, his hand reaching for her shoulder. His face was as pale as mine probably was. Maya pushed through the steps as she came rushing to where we were. “Olivia! Oh my God, breathe!” She said, as she fanned Olivia’s face with her hands, her own eyes wide with fear. The priest stepped back, bible clutched tight, looking lost and shocked. “Is she going to be alright? Should we call an ambulance?”“No, no,” I muttered, lowering Olivia gently to the wooden floor of the gazebo. My skin felt too tight on my bo

  • OFF LIMITS: HIS BEST FRIEND'S MOTHER    THE WEDDING CHAOS( PART TWO)

Olivia’s POVTime seemed to slow down as Cassandra stormed toward us, her face twisted in rage, eyes locked on me like I was the devil herself. The guests gasped again, chairs scraping as people stood up, whispers rising in the garden. The priest froze, bible still open in his hands, his kind smile gone. Xander’s grip on my hand tightened, his body shifting to block me fully. Ethan was already moving, his best man duties forgotten as he stepped forward with a growl. Maya clutched my arm, her nails digging in a little too hard, but I barely felt it. My heart was thundering so loud it drowned out everything else.“Cassandra!” Xander barked, his voice sharp and commanding. “Get the fuck out now.”But she didn’t stop. She shoved past another security guard who was rushing in from the side, her heels sinking into the soft grass of the path. Her dress—a rumpled red thing that looked like she’d thrown it on in a hurry was hiked up as she charged. “You bitch!” she screamed, pointing at me wi

  • OFF LIMITS: HIS BEST FRIEND'S MOTHER    THE WEDDING DAY ( PART ONE)

Olivia’s POVThe morning light filtered through the curtains of the hotel room we’d booked for the bridal party, soft and golden like a promise. It was finally here—the wedding day. April 15, 2025. Today I would officially be Mrs Hayes, but what if something goes wrong? I couldn't stop this nagging feeling at the back of my mind that something bad was going to happen.Maya bustled in, her maid of honor duties in full swing. She was already dressed in her soft lilac gown, hair curled perfectly, her makeup flawless. “Rise and shine, bride of the hour! Coffee’s here, and the hair stylist is setting up. You ready to get gorgeous?”I smiled at her, trying to push the worry away. “As ready as I’ll ever be. Thanks for being here, Maya. I couldn’t do this without you."*She gave me a quick hug, her energy infectious. “Wouldn’t miss it for the world. Now, sit. Let’s make you look like the queen that you are.”The morning flew by in a whirl of activity. The stylist arrived, pinning my hair int
