LOGINCHAPTER TWO.
WILLOW’S POV.
“No! This isn’t right. You cannot betroth my mate to Harriet. It’s wrong!” The words come tearing out of my throat the moment the door closes behind my father. Both Harriet and our mother roll their eyes like I just said the most unreasonable thing ever.
The coronation party is over and the guests have departed. Right now, all five of us are in my father’s office for a meeting he called.
“Don’t be ridiculous, Willow.” Harriet barks at me. “Miles is the son of the Chief Commander of the army and one day, he’s going to assume that position. He cannot possibly stay mated to a low-life like you. He deserves to be with someone who matches his status. Someone like myself. Tell her that, daddy.” She slums on a nearby couch, sighing as though I completely exasperate her.
“Your sister is right, Willow.”
The words, ‘your sister” jar in my ears like an annoying cacophony of church bells. Harriet and I might be related by blood and share the same parents but she is not my sister. She’s at the top of the list of people who have made it life’s purpose to make my life miserable because of my wolf-less status. From constantly throwing dirty slangs at me every time she sees me, to publicly humiliating me anytime there’s an audience to watch. She never fails to remind me of how worthless I am because of my situation and how she’s better than me in every way. Now, she has stolen my mate. That’s not what a sister does.
“But dad, you know this is wrong. Miles and I are fated for each other. It was a match made by the Moon goddess herself.”
“Well, that was a huge mistake on her part then, because you certainly do not deserve Miles.” Harriet fires back.
“No. You can’t…”
“Willow, that’s enough!” Miles speaks for the first time since we got in here. I avert my gaze from Harriet and watch him through blurry eyes. He looks angry. He’s angry with me. His eyes hold no iota of warmth like they used to whenever he confessed his love for me and assured me that I was the only one for him.
Had it all been a lie?
“But Miles…”
“Harriet and I decided to keep this from you so you wouldn’t get anymore hurt, but since you’re adamant to accept this arrangement, I might as well just tell you so that you’ll understand that this is really happening.” My gaze flickers between him and Harriet as I try to figure out what could be worse than what I already know. “Willow…” Miles calls in a low, gruff voice, taking a step closer to me. “Your sister Harriet is the one I love and want to spend the rest of my life with, not you. It has never been you.”
“But… you…” My voice breaks in half. “You told me I was the only one for you.”
“I lied.”
Tears pool in my eyes and I feel my heart constricting. This whole situation is draining all the energy from my bones, it’s a miracle that I’m still able to stay on my feet right now.
“She’s pregnant with my child.” He adds in a low voice and something snaps in my chest. My eyes go over to Harriet who nods at me with a wicked smile perched on her lips. Her hand is on her belly, gently caressing it. “That’s why I have to reject you right now, to officially break our mate-bond, so that I can mark Harriet as mine.”
I should say something, but I’m too stunned to speak. Everything has suddenly become very clear. Miles and I have never gone past kissing and he never agreed to mark me, claiming he was waiting for the right time before he could do any of that to me. I believed him and it made me love him even more because I thought he found me too precious to defile, but now, it’s clear to me why he was never interested in marking or making love to me. Why would he do that with me when he had Harriet? He has been sleeping with her all this time.
Gods! I’ve been so blind and stupid.
“Willow Alyssa Campbell, I reject you as my mate. From now on, you cease to be my fated life partner. You are free to find a chosen mate for yourself. I declare you eligible for a second chance mate as well. This is where our path as a fated couple ends.”
My hand clutches my chest and I let out a guttural cry as excruciating pain sears through my chest as a result of our broken mate-bond. It feels as though someone inserted a hand into my chest and ripped my heart right out of its cage. More tears spill from my eyes, making wet trails down my face and I’m almost breathless from the pain. I watch in horror as Miles leaves my side and goes over to meet Harriet who’s now waiting for him on her feet and marks her. The entire scene unfolds before my eyes like a nightmare.
“What… what’s going to happen to me now?” I ask, broken.
“Your fate has already been decided.” The ridge between my brows deepens as I give my father a confused look. “Earlier this morning, news came in that Alpha Killian Hayes of the Crescent Bloodmoon Pack has requested that his next bride come from this household.” His words sink into my brain like a metallic object sinking into the deepest part of an ocean, its meaning, slowly unraveling until it finally dawns on me in the clearest manner. My pupils dilate as I shoot him a mortified look.
Is he suggesting that …?
He couldn’t possibly want to …
No.
No!
As if reading my thoughts, he says: “Yes. I am sending you over to the Crescent Bloodmoon Pack to be Alpha Killian’s bride.”
I collapse to the ground from sheer exhaustion.
What he just said…
Being Alpha Killian’s bride…
It is tantamount to a death sentence.
WILLOW’S POV“Can we continue? We’ll go slower this time.” Gamma Axel asks and we both nod at him in agreement.“I’d really appreciate that, thank you.”We start jogging again and as promised, they are slower this time. Alpha Killian is almost walking. We finally arrive at the outdoor training field and my jaw drops from the size of it. It is massive. It’s also well illuminated and under the white bulbs, the green carpet grass makes the entire place look very beautiful. There’s not a thing amiss about anything in this castle. Everything from the buildings, to the various facilities down to the furniture was created with extreme precision and mindfulness.I’m panting like I just finished a marathon race and just as I’m about to sit on the grass and rest, after Killian catches me halfway down and hoists me back on my feet. I shoot him a horrified look.“I know you’d do anything to cancel this training session, but you’re not fainting on my watch. Walk around for a bit and calm your hear
WILLOW’S POV“TURN IT OFF!” Maddy screeches like a bird that has been set on fire. An aggravating sound that grates on my nerves as I click the stop icon on my phone alarm. One would hear her screams and think I rang a church bell right over head. My alarm isn’t even a loud blasting sound, it’s quite gentle and only serves the purpose of waking me up on time since I’m a light sleeper. “Can’t I have a moment of peace with you in this room? Why do you need to be up at four in the morning? That stupid alarm of yours just disrupted my sleep!” She crashes out, fuming like an angry beast and all I can do is shoot her an apologetic look and say sorry as many times as possible.“I’m so sorry. I’m sorry.”She grunts and falls back on her bed while I leave for the bathroom to brush my teeth.Once I’m done, I come back into the room, change into my sports attire and grudgingly leave the bedroom, cursing the fact that I have to leave my warm bed for a morning run with Gamma Axel. The training on
WILLOW’S POV“Are you done eating?” I ask Alpha Killian who’s now watching TV in the sitting area. I think I should have held back from announcing my presence so soon and just watched him afar for a while longer because I like what I’m seeing. It’s a wholesome sight to Alpha Killian in pajamas, all relaxed and comfortable on a sofa in the sitting area of his bedroom, watching the news. It’s moments like this that remind of the fact that he’s not just an all powerful and dangerous Alpha, but a normal person too.A very handsome person.“Yes, Willow. I’m done. You can clear the dishes.”His response makes my stomach growl with excitement. It’s finally time for me to have my own dinner.I head over to the table and start placing the dishes and plates on my tray while doing my best to ignore his intoxicating scent and raging hormones that always seem to take over me whenever I’m in his presence. I have learned to keep all these at bay anytime I’m close to him, but it doesn’t mean I’ve go
WILLOW’S POVIt comes as a shock to me when I successfully make it all the way to my usual unoccupied booth and sit down with my food without someone trying to trip me. The snarky comments from my fellow colleagues still come through, but they are not as frequent and intense as before. It seems that as time goes on, they are losing interest in me which is refreshing to know.I take out my cellphone and scroll through my favorite social media app as I eat.If everyone here didn’t hate me so much, I would have met the chefs and gave them compliments on their cooking skills. They make very delicious meals for us servants.“You think because you are the personal servant to the Alpha, you’re above everyone here, don’t you?” A female voice asks from in front of me and I look up from my plate to see who it is. The name tag on her uniform reads Andrea and her face looks very familiar. I’m sure she lives on the same floor as Maddy and I, together with the two other girls flanking her and givin
WILLOW’S POV“I’m deeply impressed by the speed at which you learn and adapt to the combat techniques I teach you. Keep it up.”Those words from Gamma Axel have been replaying in my mind like a broken record ever since I returned from training and I can’t stop smiling and feeling proud of myself. A compliment was the last thing I expected to receive from him, given his austere reputation. It’s been less than 2 weeks since we started training, but I’ve been able to perfect my stances and learned new ones that he’s taught me. By the time one-month elapses, I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to make a graceful attack against an opponent and win. I cannot wait.“Willow!” A voice shouts my name the moment I step out of my bedroom into the hallway. I turn to see who just called me and my heart takes a leap when I see the same group of girls whom I overheard talking about Maddy in the bathroom last night. Neither is wearing a friendly look as they approach me and I just know I’m about to get thre
WILLOW'S POVHe offers in a very calm and kind tone which cajoles me into accepting his offer, but then I recall how upset I am with him and shake my head.“No.” I deny blatantly.“I insist.”I pick up the tray and look at him.“What would be the essence of me sitting down to eat dinner with you when I won’t enjoy the meal or even properly digest it because of how nervous I’ll be the entire time? It’ll only get me constipated and of what benefit would that be to me?”I answer coldly and watch him deflate on his seat like an airless balloon. If I didn’t know how much he despised me, I’d say those words hurt him.“That will be all. You can leave.” He calmly dismisses me and I don’t hesitate to leave the bedroom.I let out a giant exhale once I’m in the hallway and gently pat my chest a few times in an attempt to calm my raging heartbeats. As the days go by, my interactions with Alpha Killian become more heated and nerve racking. I don’t think I’m going to survive being his personal serv
CHAPTER TENWILLOW’S POVIt’s the D-day.There are even more servants at my service. I’ve been served even better food and taken to places I had only imagined to exist in my dreams and wildest fantasies. The pity in the eyes of the servants as they attend to me is unmistakable. After today, I will
CHAPTER TENI swear if I’m asked that question one more time tonight, I’ll crash out.“Eleanor said…”“Aren’t you cold?” He quickly cuts me off.“I’m freezing, actually.”“The closet is over there.’ He says pointing to a door on my left. “Go in, take that off and put on whatever will keep you warm
CHAPTER NINEWILLOW’S POVI am a priced lamb being prepped for sacrifice.Well, part of that statement is untrue. Alpha Killian didn’t pay a price for me. I was offered to him free of charge. Therefore, I’m just a lamb being prepped for sacrifice. An unpriced lamb. That’s the only thought running t
KILLIAN’S POV“You ignored her! You sent your guards to stop her from following us. How could you do that?” My wolf, Knox, screams in my mind like he’s been doing ever since that very awkward encounter with Willow in the living room. I shut him out, down the whiskey in my hold and slam the glass on
