LOGINCHAPTER FOUR
WILLOW’S POV
I am shaking like a leaf as Beta Kane leads me into the most massive and sophisticated living-room I have ever set my foot into since I was born. After that hilarious stunt I pulled trying to escape – which was miserably futile as he caught up with me and flung me over his shoulder before I could reach the door – I am finding it very difficult to simply exist in his presence. Fear is seizing my limbs, cramping my joins and breaking every single bone in my body.
The living-room is a wonder to behold and I would be taking inventory of every detail of its exquisite furniture and the massive, beautiful chandelier hanging from the ceiling far far above, if my mind wasn’t already tortured with the possibilities of how I’m going to meet my end in this castle.
“Sit” The Beta’s gruff voice orders and I know I should obey him immediately, but one more look at the sofas makes me hesitate. They all look so clean and luxurious; I feel like I would soil them if I got another inch closer to them which would only make things worse for …
“I said, sit!”
Okay!
My butt drops on the nearest sofa and a deafening silence falls in the room. The soldiers did not come in with us. Beta Kane is standing somewhere on my far left and that’s when it finally dawns on me what’s going on.
We are waiting for The Lycan King.
My toes curl and uncurl in my shoes. I try to straighten my fabric of dress with my palms for no particular reason. I intertwine my fingers and let them rest on my laps, but when the back of my head starts itching, I release them and scratch the itching spot which soon becomes spots. From the back of my head, to the center, to the side and then my neck. I wipe away the beats of sweat that have formed on my forehead as my left leg starts shaking involuntarily.
My heart… oh my heart. It’s a miracle it’s still working. It’s pounding so fast; I’m scared it’s going to crash any second from now.
I am having a panic attack.
I need to pee.
“Rise up and bow to the Lycan King.”
This time around, I don’t let myself hesitate. I immediately rise to my feet, not daring to look forward and the horror that skates through me when I realize I have no idea how to greet the Lycan King almost makes my bladder give up on me. My knees grow weak. It feels like someone inserted a giant straw into my mouth and sucked out all the energy from my body.
Now would be the perfect time to pass out.
“Lord Alpha,” I hear the Beta say to someone whose presence, I can only acknowledge from the sound of his quiet approaching footsteps. My eyes are glued to the floor. “I present you to your bride-to-be.” The silence that ensues after that statement nearly drives me insane.
He hasn’t said a single word, but I can feel his scorching gaze all over my body. He’s looking at me. Whatever burning sensation I felt when Beta Kane was scrutinizing me back there in my father’s living room is nothing compared to what I’m feeling right now. I feel like I’ve been dipped into magma.
“Why does she look like a sick chicken?” A steel voice demands and the disgust and disappointment embedded in its tone cannot be missed.
“She does not have a wolf.”
“I sensed that. I asked for a wife and he sent me this? A wolf-less bird?”
“My Lord, it is impossible for a bird to possess a wolf in the first place.” An inaudible gasp escapes my chest as my heart starts racing for Beta Kane. Challenging his Lord Alpha like that. Does he want his head to be the next skull lined up at the entrance to this castle?
“I believe Alpha Campbell has two daughters, so why did he send me the dysfunctional one?” Alpha Killian asks, completely ignoring the Beta's diss at him. Anger rises from my stomach and its bitter taste lines my mouth as I stare furiously into the floor below me.
Dysfunctional? Did he just call me dysfunctional?
How rude!
I barely hear Beta Kane’s explanation to him of why I’m here instead of my fully functional sister because of the blood pounding in my ears.
“Leave us.”
Sound of retreating footsteps… door closing, then nothing. Now it’s just me and the brooding devil.
“Look at me.” Another order comes through. This time around, to me.
I obey diligently and the moment my eyes meet with his, something explodes in my chest. For a brief moment, I feel like I’m on fire and electricity is zapping through me at the same time. All the hair on my body is standing erect and there’s an army of goosebumps marching up and down my arms and legs. I feel hot and cold at the same time and I know I’m not the only one experiencing these sensations between the two of us because of the manner in which his gaze which was hard as basalt a while ago has gone jelly. He has the most bewildered expression plastered on his face. It’s almost as though he just found out something intriguing and interesting about me.
I just did, for him as well, but I have no idea what that intriguing or interesting thing is.
“Why don’t you have a wolf?”
“If you’re so disgusted by me because of my appearance and wolf-less status, why don’t you just send me back home? I’m sure there are plenty of other she-wolves out there who meet your criteria and are therefore more worthy of becoming your wife.”
“... other she-wolves out there who meet my criteria and are therefore more worthy of …” He suddenly stops and stares at me quizzically. “Are you mocking me?”
“No!” I cry out as I drop to my knees and bow so low that my forehead touches the floor. “No, My Lord. I would slit my own throat before I ever think of mocking you. I was only trying to suggest that you consider better options as being your wife is no joking matter. It is the highest honor a she-wolf could ever dream of achieving in her entire life.”
“Now you are definitely mocking me.” He says in a shockingly casual tone.
Tears spill from my eyes.
Why do I keep making things worse for myself?
“Rise.”
I do just that, but do not dare to meet his gaze. My blood pressure shoots up when I hear his approaching footsteps.
This is it. He is going to twist my neck and get this over with. This is the end for me.
“You are bold.” He stops really close to me. Like really close and I die five times in the second when he places his index finger underneath my chin and gently raises my head so that our gazes meet again. His serious countenance has slipped back on, but there’s no hint of anger in his eyes. They are soft and warm. Almost kind. “I like that.” He releases my chin just in time for me to release the breath I was holding before my lungs collapse. “Is anyone there?” He asks softly and immediately, five female servants dressed in uniforms, scamper into the living room and stand in a perfect horizontal line before us with their heads bowed down. “Take Willow to Eleanor and tell her I need her back in my bedchamber in one hour.” Then he turns to me and says: “Get ready to serve me tonight.”
WILLOW’S POV“Why do you look so stunned by the fact that I know that detail about you?”“Because I can’t seem to understand how you know that. You’re never around the castle to see me go there.”“I have my ways.” He brags and my frustration mounts.“Can I know what that way is?”“Does it matter?”“As a matter of fact, yes, it does.” I say firmly, shooting him a stubborn look and hoping he would cave and tell me what I need to know. It’s probably not a big deal, which means he used to find out that I frequent the garden, but my curiosity won’t let me rest and my delusions are starting to take over my mind.Does he have people who monitor and report my every move to him in the castle? If that’s the case, why?Is it because he cares about me? Or because he suspects me of something and wants to make sure I never try to escape from the castle.“Oh look, a flower.” He suddenly exclaims and walks past me behind. I quickly turn around and watch him walk up to a rose flower plant where he plu
WILLOW’S POVI am stunned and speechless as I watch Beta and Gamma Axel come over to meet us. My concern grows even stronger when I realize that Alpha Killian still has his hand on my back. I try to push his hand away, but he resists and keeps it there. I stop fidgeting when the two men approaching us finally arrive in front of us and bow down to Alpha Killian. Once they raise their heads and look at me, I start to bow when it’s my turn to greet them, but to my greatest shock, they bow down their heads to me as well. I shoot Alpha Killian a confused look and he looks back at the men who seem to suddenly realize their mistake and quickly lift their heads.A brief moment of awkward silence ensues before I clear my throat and speak.“Beta Kane and Gamma Axel. It’s such a surprise to see you both here.”“I’m not about to let my Alpha roam about without proper guidance.”“Yeah, that’s enough. Willow, let’s go inside/” Alpha Killian urges as he leads me towards the main entrance of the buil
CHAPTER EIGHTY-EIGHTWILLOW’S POV“Do you really want me to tell you who you are?”I suck in a deep breath, swallow dryly before nodding in agreement. Without warning, he leans in dangerously close to my face with his, our lips barely inches away from each other’s. The earth stops and spins in another direction and suddenly, I can’t smell anything else but him. Clean, fresh and perfect. How horrible is it that I want him to kiss me right now?“Willow,” This should be the one millionth time he’s calling my name this evening. If I didn’t know better, I’d conclude that the name entices him very much and saying it gives him profound happiness. He’s staring deep into my eyes and I can’t help but wonder why his eyes are shimmering with amusement. There’s nothing amusing about this situation. Only tension.Slowly, gently, he raises his hand to my face and a violent shiver scatters down my spine as his finger gently draws a slow, invisible line from my forehead to the back of my ear as he tuc
CHAPTER EIGHTY-SEVENWILLOW’S POV“All the meals were very delicious and I enjoyed them. Thank you very much for treating me to dinner.” I tell Alpha Killian calmly after once we’re done eating.“No,” he says, rising along with me from his seat. “I should be the one thanking you for giving me the privilege to have dinner with me.” My brows trip with confusion as I walk a few paces away from the dining area and look at him. Here he goes again with his shocking and confusing words with encrypted meanings. Every time he says something like this, it magnifies the sound of the voice in my head which keeps telling me that there’s something off. There’s something I need to know that Alpha Killian is not telling me.“I… i…” I stutter and nervously scratch the back of my neck. “I don’t think I'm in the position to grant you any sort of privilege, but okay,” I shrug my shoulders. “If you insist.”His shoulders shake as he laughs softly. The soothing sound of his deep, low voice fills the atmosp
WILLOW’S POV“What?” I ask in complete terror of what I’ve just been told. “But that wasn’t the plan.” I say, putting on the red dress she just handed to me.“It is now.” She stops fussing around for a short while and inspects the dress from head to toe before nodding. “Beautiful. Now, come over here.” She holds me by my wrist and takes me over to the vanity where I sit in front of the mirror and she starts styling my hair. The only sounds that can be heard in the room are those of objects colliding with each other and the table as she picks and drops them while doing my hair and a light make up on my face. By the time she’s done, I am very impressed with the image of the girl smiling back at me when I smile into the mirror and Ma’am Katherine looks very proud of her handiwork. The next thing I know, she’s shoving a pair of black heels on my feet before she stands up and does a clap that signifies the end.“Alright, we’re all set. It’s time to go.”“I still don’t know why Alpha Kill
WILLOW’S POV“What?” Shirley asks, still reeling in confusion and I take a step forward towards her. Maybe standing closer to her will clear her mind and make her understand me better.“You just told me you’ve never been jealous of Maddy, yet you wasted no time in taking her place as leader of your little group the second she fell. You claim you’ve always meant well for her, yet you shamed, bullied and humiliated her before a grand audience the second the opportunity presented itself.”“I only did that because she…”“Slept with your boyfriend.” I finish her sentence in a bored tone and scoff. “Do you really believe that lie you keep telling yourself?”“What are you blabbering about?” Her confusion has morphed into annoyance and she’s staring at me wickedly. Now, that’s more like it. This is the Shirley I know and want to interact with.“Maddy’s betrayal is not the main reason why you are acting this way towards her. It’s merely an excuse for you to finally show your true feelings for
WILLOW'S POVNo one cannot convince me that he isn’t doing this on purpose. He knows his presence terrifies me, yet he insists on keeping me close just to rile up my nerves and potentially make me develop a heart attack. Is this how he plans to get rid of me? By traumatizing me to death? I take a
WILLOW'S POVI snap at them and they all instantly stop laughing and stare at me like I’ve gone mad. “Can you all stop talking about me like I’m not here?” I ask, doing my best to keep the fear out of voice. My heart starts pounding when one of them starts to approach me.“Else what?” She asks men
WILLOW'S POVThose questions keep buzzing in my head like a phone that won’t stop ringing, making it impossible for me to get a wink of sleep all night. By five minutes to nine am the next day, I’m sitting on the sofa closest to the TV, my eye-lids heavy as though I’m carrying bags of cement on the
CHAPTER FIVEWILLOW’S POVI am to serve him tonight, but I have no idea what I will be serving and I’ve got this horrible feeling in my gut that it’s something I will not like. “Stop.” The servant who has been leading the way upstairs into this strange chamber commands and I halt in my tracks. She
